Correction this is in comparison to the Canon SX 50...amazingly the Canon SX40 handled better than the 50, but still love the Sony the best!!!!

    Hi BornBlonde9gb !!!
As a newbie .. I have taken some amazing shots,of the moon specifically !! But for some reason ,I cannot get the camera to display the moon's color at the moment. For example, the recent blood moon ? On my pics it looks cristal clear , craters and all ...but white/silver ... not orange or yellowish! :( Any idea what I'm doing wrong?? Thanks in advance :)

+Elizahbet A Hi & thanks for watching my Sony moon pics video. I've never really had that problem except to say even when i use a transparent filter i will not get as real color wise as when i use no filter. So i often take filter off when photographing the moon. Sony has it's own moon setting which is pretty cool, although i'm sure if i went into manual mode, i could be even more creative & possibly sharper pics. I didn't use a tripod in the video pics, so that too is often encouraged. I do however if i take a pic that's not as rich in color as what my vision of it was, i might do a bit of editing simply to enrich the color. I missed the recent blood moon...UHHH, as simply didn't stay up, wish i had captured as well. Mine too would do the white/silver when my filter was on, strange as it's transparent, more real colors without. Maybe that would correct the problem!!!!

+bornblonde9gb Oohh ok , great !! I will give that a try and see if I can get what I'm expecting. I'm still experimenting with it so I don't know many of its features yet hehe. I do have a tripod but never have used it , I really love that about this camera :) . The blood moon was a spectacular sight along with that eclipse. Do you have your work up on any social media page? I would like to check out your work with this camera if you have any :)

Sometimes you may have to change the White Balance Setting as the camera sometimes likes to try and correct the color.. on the reddish or orange moons when first coming up, just click through the different WB settings while watching the screen and guess this may only work in the M, S, A and P settings. Also read that when on the horizon you get more distortion...
I use the shutter speed setting a lot since the moon is moving fairly fast for the close ups .. also try to under expose when a bright moon .... past few days I can't seem to get a sharp image but have had very high temp's. Looks sharp in the viewfinder but a bit blurry on the computer, sometimes I use the sharpen / unsharp tool in photoshop. My HX300 just got out of the shop again for a lens error, the 2nd time, first time it was replaced by MACK Camera, and guess this time they let Sony repair it.... so not 100% my lens is at it's best.. But it threw me off when seeing a reddish or orange moon and the camera kept correcting the color...

I shot a bunch of the moon during daylight yesterday but think the heat waves distort the final image and then shot a lot more later into the night and at moon set when the moon went a bit orange then red. In the past I've been able to get decent handheld shots but have read trying to use a stabilizer function can mess up the shot if using a tripod... sometimes just hit and miss I guess..
