I needed this! I'm turning 37 and had no f*cking idea how to learn anything since high school. College did not help at all, instead they were really just trying to take money from me, so I stopped at an AAS degree. I tried learning little bits of things hoping to get noticed and no noe ever told me I had to master it first to get noticed. This helped me tons.
johari window - we dont know what we dont know - an academic career is just that, you have to out there and do it, a PhD is a first level to theoritical understanding in a new area that no one else have ever done, a PhD is saying, you have entered the first step of your of your academic career, you want to be a Professor, then a PhD is a necessity, you want to be an amazing coder, then get a MSc and then prove that in the real world - you need to learn about how the real world works, i.e. sprints/kanban , git , revewing PR's well - a MsC doesnt teach you that, you have to go out there and do it. Peer review of a an article is showing you know what you know, especially if you get alot of references (i.e. your article is meaingful) - so , you want to LEARN ANYTHING - love what you are doing, you will do it. That applies to academic, professional or personal.

Thank you Jesper for this good recommandations. as I am master’s degree student in geophysics I have been catching by what you said! It’s really what I thought. I am interested in signal processing, waves physics and Machine Learning. I hope that following your videos I can know more about ML, python coding. Thank you and congrats for your PhD thesis I stat to read it.

I'm glad!
Ironically, reading about teaching helped me most to learn how to learn. Also how hard learning really can be.
It's a GREAT video! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks Linda!

It will be great I hope, I am a geophysicist as well, switch to rock physics and data science. Thanks Jasper!
Thank God a Geophysicist on youtube who is focusing on using machine learning in geosciences, the things i was looking for.
