Making Golok Machete Handles and Sheaths in Central Java

- A specialist wood carving carpenter making a handle and sheath for a decorative golok machete. This wood shop is just around the corner from the AMW blacksmiths seen in Part 1. This is part 2 of the series, "Blacksmiths making Goloks in Central Java." Originally it was meant to be only 2 videos, but due to the larger file size, we have had to break this up into 3 separate videos. Our next upload will be back at the AMW shop and will focus on the detailed decoration of the sheath and tiger head handle. Golok is the Indonesian work for machete. “Pandai besi” means blacksmith. We have many more blacksmith knife making videos at Bush Channel.
The address of the AMW blacksmith is Karangasem Village, Bantul, near Yogyakarta City. The English speaking guide at 1:16 is Christian from Vogels Hostel. Vogels is a highly recommended place to stay in the mountain village of Kaliurang on the slopes of Mt Merapi. Christian and his nephew Aldrin own Vogels. You'll see Aldrin in Part 1 of the series.
We have other golok videos coming soon!

Great video thanks for sharing watching from the USA kentucky
A few years late to the party, gents, but I just wanted to say how great these videos are. I love the craftsmanship displayed.
PS that jigsaw scares the shit out of me.
Amazing diy thanks for sharing this video i love it watching from Philippines island
@@janni_tuts_420 lol, that disgusting food you had
@@janni_tuts_420 yea yea, I had one back then and it was horrible
I’d love to go overseas and get some different machetes made. Those guys are guns!👍🏼
That guy is a real craftsman! No laser guided gizmos necessary, just attention to the details.
Such a brilliant series!
Thanks Steven. In the next episode you’ll see the carpenter pull out all his various carving chisels to do the decoration and then the AMW Blacksmiths from episode 1 finishing it off by burning the tang into the handle.

Das ist ein wahrer Handwerker.👍👍😘
Legal. Muita arte envolvida na construção de um cabo usando ferramentas não tão tecnologicas quanto as usadas por norteamericanos. Fantástico.
Love that redish purple wood its so prity i would love to learn this tipe of stuff i can carve things i hand make walking sticks for family that ask me but i would love to learn this stuff right here with old and new tools
Nice video. Im waiting for part 3

The name is Sono keling
this guy could make some really cool stuff with some decent tools.
the children's uniforms wher very cool, not boring like most;-)
Kerja kok gak pakai Septi toh 🙏
At least the home fabricated Bandsaw had less vibration and was perhaps of finer quality than HARBOR FREIGHT's. Not so the metal shavings and superglue( Cyanoacrylate) to fill in handle to tang voids. Regrettably, after all that handwork, makes it a wall hanger for me. If I visit, I might just bring my own tubes of DEVCON 5 minute Epoxy and JB WELD. Interesting video.
Itu pakai kayu apa kang bagus kayunya
Hai Iam From Indonesia.
just Info
The best machetes maker in Indonesia is in Banten region of West Java The name is the village "SEUAT"
Tatang Supriyatna ..... sorry .... the machete will not considered the best ... if it didn't pass the tampering proses.
Most Asian blade maker don't do the tampering proses. They only do the hardening.
great vid...but if he replaced the saw top table with a nice bit of new flat wood it would make the job easier :)
Well, they use what they had around theme and they did mission accomplished.
And definitely better than Japan expensive sword
Nwun sewu. Kulo arek jpr0.. Mnurute kulo cara krjane kurng joss... Tour kurng puas hasile. Swun. Tasehh kasarann... Hhh
Nice video as allways. Respect from Turkey keep the good job. I wonder which wood they are using ? It looks very hard and solid.
Sonokeling wood, Dalbergia latifolia
Thomas Djarot Thanks
I thing that wood is galih asem jawa.
The blade on the recip saw is upside down, it should cut on the down stroke which pulls it against the table, on the upstroke no cut , so it doesn't vibrate the wood up and down.
I reckon it is cutting on the down stroke, but the blade has to go back up between strokes.
I believe that would only work if the blade was only moving in one direction
oh wow.... the fingers are just a few millimeters from the jigsaw....
Proud be indonesian.
I from east java
No one cares..
@@miyumiyu8570 STFU -_-
I want to know how that little jig saw works !!!

Адский станок для выпиливания. Чтобы на таком работать, нужны железные руки и лазерный глазомер. Чуть зазевался и рук как не бывало.
Man, those kids are so wonderfully well behaved! Here in the US, the little bastards-er, kids would be all over and in everything. The kids here could sure learn how to act from these kids. No Ritalin-addled brains over there, I bet.
Poorly behaved kids...? Introducing Stick, Stick will solve all your problems! buy now from third world country ;)
(joking) ha ha
I’m southeast Asian American-I chuckled coz it’s true. Love the wood he used with a matching wooden scabbard

I know it's only religious forced doctrine. But it always makes me sad to see kids all kitted out like that, instead of running around with the wind in their hair and playing together doing kids stuff like kids do everywhere else on the planet. I Respect the religion, but...
