I hope so TJ. I’ve taken the kids out of school and we’re self isolating at home. Fortunately I can work from home and have a big enough shed and enough hobbies I can keep occupied for months. Stay safe mate!
Think you should try a Toyota FJ cruiser next. Saying this i bought a jeep grand cherokee overland haha but i dont do offroading like you guys. More general camping vibes. Props for you pulling thru fixing all of that i would have lost my god damn mind.
So far how you've been doing with your Vehicle? I'm with the idea of getting one with similar Kilometer age, tested and seemed to respond pretty well but I'm still looking other options and thinking of getting it or not, i don't it's just i'm not sure maybe. but basically i what i would like to know wanna know what do i need to keep in mind when getting this car?
I’ve got the 2010 pathfinder and you’re right, knowledge is needed with these cars. We’ve spent thousands trying to sort a problem (stalling), it’s now up to its 5th mechanic and the wiring harness is being tested, even after all the issues it’s still my favourite car. Just been given a 2013 pathfinder, can’t wait to get it to the beach and test it out
Dude my 2010 runs like a monster but it drinks gas like crazy....and if it’s a hot day and I have to run the AC forget it...smh tank gone in 2 1/2 days
I have had my 07 for about 10 years and had the lift kit, big exhaust, clutch, air bags, chip etc. Learnt many lessons along the way. One was that its hard to find techs that can get the wheels aligned properly. Get a quality performance chip fitted, one that does not alter the fuel rail pressure but alters the injector pulse or you will get over fueling that in turn causes all sorts of issues including shortening the life of the engine and injectors. EGR blank is a must. Looking back all I would have done being a casual 4X4 driver is a chip and rear air bags. Otherwise they are a good capable 4X4 if not thrashed.
Hey! I’ve got a 2014 Pajero, just done a lap of Australia doing the great central road, plenty highway and a few other tracks on the way! Not one problem! 15,000km trip in a month and a bit! The car has 232,000km on it already (got it new) and never missed a beat! Yeah it lifts wheels but the traction control works a treat plus the standard rear locker 😍 and sand driving is what it’s made for! Always seem to put drive the patrols and cruisers (obviously cause it’s lighter too) and is a great touring rig! Highly recommend!
I’ve got a 2000 r50 pathfinder (previous gen), it sits on 32s with a 2inch lift and a front auto locker, factory lsd in the rear it goes great. Keeps up with the others all through the high country. You’ve done a good job with yours, looks mint.
I've got a 2008 R51, been driving it now for 3 years. I love it, but man... Some of the problems I've had with it are nuts. I had the same issue with the alternator pulley that you did. Had to replace the entire suspension and we did the SCV twice! The worst problem we had was it going into Limp mode, bringing up all the lights on the dash, wouldn't rev past 2500. Couldn't figure that one out for months. Turned out to be the priming bulb to the fuel line had a hairline split in it. $20 to fix that. Another issue was the turbo not kicking in and using up entire fuel tanks in a day. That was fixed by $8 for new vacuum lines. It's been a headache but man it's a great car for camping. We're lucky to have the knowhow to fix it ourselves. For anybody else, this would have cost thousands to maintain. Really happy to hear it going well on the beaches, I just did my first creek crossings since it's actually running perfect for once, even towed a 750kg camping trailer through too. Never ceases to surprise me with how capable it actually is.
2010 Pathfinder, had timing chain done at 96000, EGR cooler split at 105000. Apart from that been one of the better 4wd I've had. Just starting to spend money on it and actually upgrading it instead of fixing.
First time seeing you, and I had to comment. REAL refreshing to see such an honest & open discussion. And an old school mad lad for doing all that work. True grit.
Another great video mate! It’s cool to see how far the pathy has come and to look back at some of the cool things you’ve done and places you’ve been with it!🤙🏼
My Dads got a 2008 pajero and its an absolute beast. Loves the sand! Never has problems at all amd well over 200 000km. Uncle had the previous generation and it was just as good.
I'm on my second r51 both were 06's here in Arizona...both over 180k 0 issues running 35's and long travel setups.. daily driven 80+ miles to work wheeled up to 3 times a week. Looks like I need to get off my butt and make a channel so people can get an idea of what these are capable of... Thanks for the video and taking time out of your life to share it with all of us.
@@TJANDMAC long story short I used to race class 7 desert racing here in the states so before anyone was doing titan swaps I built the the long travel set up I have using the stock parts just modified to suit my needs. The current set up on my truck right now was the first kit I made and are 4" wider per side witch is 1" wider than running a titan control arm swap. I built a 7inch wider race kit that is on a freinds 05 pathfinder if you google r51 pathfinder overland you will find pics of his truck..its running fiberglass fenders for a frontier and a roof top tent custom built rear bumper with twin swing outs..I was using bilstein 5100"s with a custom spacer originally but after the market started making parts for titan swapped xterra's I switched to a radflo front shock with 600lbs springs.. rear is armada 4x4 springs with relocated upper shock mounts and rs9000's. Almost have everything I need for a solid axle swap in the rear but I pull 10" of travel in the rear as is. 14" up front strapped to keep the cv's safe lol. I'll post up a video maybe this weekend all the stuff I've learned over the last 10 years on these trucks seems to be handy for most so I'll share it as I can..
@@theclan4adventures oh awesome stuff mate, please do and yes i have seen that pathfinder on instagram im pretty sure. dont know if id like that much extra width but definitely very cool !
i just got a Nissan pathfinder 2007 with 270k kilometers and i can say i am impressed with how reliable this truck is but its all stock and planning to do some upgrades soon
Literally just finished changing my r51 vq40 timing chain lol. I bought it with a blown head so I changed all gaskets, seals and timing chains and guides. If you live in the us or anywhere the vq40 is in the pathfinder please be sure to listen for the timing chain. Mine literally sounded like the engine had a rod knock.
Great coverage of the Pros and Cons of a Budget Build. If your willing to have a crack at swinging spanners at them and you have a very understanding wife then your build like you guys documented on your trip from Brisbane to Perth will get you there the same as a big dollar cruiser would... (you guys may have had a few extra teething problems than a new cruiser)😁😆 but you still achieved it. Keep up the great content I look forward to the next vid.👍🏼🍻
I have a 98 Pathfinder, it's at that stage we're parts need to be replaced. I figured it's cheaper to replace the parts with better parts then going into debt with a new car. I love my Pathfinder, looks like shit but it's tough, great for a 4wding!
Had a 2008 Ti 2.5diesel for just over 6 years (last of the Spanish build). I liked it as a vehicle to drive and very practical, but it cost us a lot of money in repairs. First old mechanic advised not to buy one, I should have listened to him. Current mechanic (a 4WD & diesel specialist) said the same thing, has seen far too many issues and poor design on these. Just under 2 months ago, engine cut out after making a funny noise. Returned to the mechanic and the engine was stuffed, economically beyond repair, probably crankshaft broke. It had done less than 170,000. Now gone to a Toyota. If you have one of these I hope it lasts, but it is not known for its reliability. I notice a few comments about being maintained properly. Mine was, not driven offroad, minimal and light towing. Any car can go wrong but some are more likely to.
We had a NW pajero with the factory rear locka. 33s and a lift went awesome in the rough stuff usually with a wheel in the air 👍🏻. Awesome car great for the family. Super reliable 🤠
I have an 11 2.5 and I love it. I get "How did you ge that up there????" a lot! Its big inside, has more useable, space in the boot than a Cruiser or Patrol (stupid 3rd row arrangement) and tows the camper trailer at 11lt/100. It was written off through hail recently and I ended up buying it back because I couldn't find anything I liked other than a Y62. The Y62 is just a bigger version of this car so it is next on my list.
I had an old GUIII beach baby and it was an awesome truck. But started to show its age and became well costly to keep it up to scratch. Now have a new Pajero that I have done some work to and am happy. A slightly smaller 4X4 in but it goes good. Straight out Cameron's Cnr. and does fine up the beach.
Is have an R51. As long as it is maintained when you buy it used it's pretty good. Suspension bushing bolts seizing is my only major. Otherwise I tow a 3ton RV with a petrol no problem and does all my off-road tracks with almost no issue. Fully independent suspension makes it very nice when cruising down the tracks with a bad lower back😁. Automatic gearboxes are the way to go with the traction control system on these. 4low and slow, constant throttle is the key. Just let the computers work it out and it gets you through Everytime.
I had a Prado and it was a beast it was just as capable as my mates V8 landcruiser maybe not on serious rock tracks but for non super hardcore 4wding it was great!!
Good vid, thnaks for sharing your experiences. I really like what you've done with your Pathfinder. I wish I had bumped into you guys while you were here in WA 🙂
thanks for sharing your experience with the truck, I like it a lot, there is a possibility that I can buy one here in Argentina. very nice pictures Cheers Franco
Love my r50 2000 pathy, picked her up for a steal at 10 k with only 87k on the clock from Original owner, he never got to take her away off road hence I am doing it for him, may he Rest In Peace. Was up at Teewah just one week prior to your trip glad I got in before the closure. Got a place at Teewah township booked for November and cannot wait, great to be a QLD’r!!!
Hahahahaha seen you fellas out on the weekend I was in the black 80 series yelled out to you and almost wiped out Mac!!! Trucks looked mint in that huge line ! I was leaving as you guys were going loving the videos keep up that great work guys!!!!!
@@TJANDMAC told my brother the next morning and then I get a picture of you guys pulled up in front of him hahahahaha Todo tyres I told me to get some stickers lol
We have a 2008 R51. Apart from normal servicing, haven't had any serious issues. Ours is stock apart from tyres. Nissan interiors fall apart though and my clear coat needs attention. I have to make a decision about getting a younger 4wd or put some money into this one. For us, it's been a good first real 4wd.
Bought one with 130thou nothing but issues it went under water prior to buying beach swimming, just bought new engine and gearbox sweat now most issues other than Timing chain the sensors are an issue just replace anything that’s old with the pathy all will be sweat, will say engine swaps are so easy the whole front just comes off easy as.
i owned a R51 "2005 Nisson Pathfinder SE Offroad" stock paid $3K for it has 189K miles Vehicle book value in my area was over 4K almost 5K so thought good deal use it for a year resell it for same or more.. within that year of owning it we invested over 9K with out buying it being added from new hub bearing to new motor gear box trans ujoints bushing springs everything got it to run good then trans gave out "So i thought" ended up being motor. now doing a 6.0L Swap from my Chevy Z71.
I don’t own any Nissans luckily😂😂 nice honest review TJ, gotta watch out for dem rangers though. They go mental about drones in the Cooloola camp areas.
Had a 2006 pathfinder. Kept snapping CV's and killing wheel bearings but loved it, went every were patrols went (with a bit of winching aha). Had 32's and 2-3" lift. Ended up cracking the head at 130k and had to get it towed home. It drove extremely well though in comparison to the patrol I have now which is such a boat in comparison.
They did that so there'd be somewhere for the third-row passengers' legs and feet to go. The Xterra was only offered as a two-row SUV and its rear suspension is live-axle with leaf springs, similar to the D40 Navara/Frontier. What I find funny about this is the Xterra has a weird roof-hump and the rear doors and cargo roofline are taller, but the Pathy is the one that got the third row.
Nice mate. My D40 is down on power at the moment, so gotta start going through the same process you had.... check piping, check turbo, suction control valve, MAF sensor.... fun times ahead.
my lifted grand vitara diesel keeps up with my mates fj cruiser, mines better on the beach, corrugations and tarmac but not quite as good on rocks cos of the IFS/IRS. uses 7ltrs per 100km to his 12ltrs per 100km though and its about the same size inside
Bloody great, loved my old one. My only complaint was ground clearance was shit. Pathfinder has about 15 cm more under the transfer with the same lift!
Good video, nice Pathfinder! I have had one for at least 6 months now already, and basically nothing broke eventually only 1 thing from an offroad driving, so again, if I would not take it offroad pretty 100 percent sure it would not break at all!! I suggest also buying 2 vehicle now for offroad Nissan Patrol Y60 or Y61!
Should give the Gen 4 Paj a shot! Very reliable 3.2 Diesel engine which has been around for years with plenty of grunt and get more bang for your buck compared to like a Prado 120/150 for example. Twin locked Paj with 3-4” lift on 33s or 35s with a bit of chopping will keep up with the big guns, but hey I own one so I’m a bit biased... 😂 #Pajlife
They might be lacking in flex as well but that’s made up with the awesome traction control they have. More than happy for you to have a drive of mine to see if you like them but it definitely doesn’t drive like a stock standard one 😅
Main problem with the gen 3/4 is that they're monocoque and you can't fit proper front recovery points without heaps of work, whereas you can buy bolt on ones for the pathy with the ladder chassis. Other than the pajero having an optional rear locker there's nothing between them. Pajero has a slightly better rear seat setup but the pathy has the better interior layout imo. Mate has a gen 3 and we've driven them back to back including offroad.
I was looking at Pathfinders as Im looking for a 4x4 and started doing research on them. I stumbled across this video, got to 3min and have now decided not to get one.
i got one 2 months ago i love it but it wasn't long until i needed suction control valve fitted as it kept going into limp mode... when i looked up it seems like a common fault.
I brought my dads own to school cause my 3 series needed some work and when I was leaving school the pathfinder went into limp mode and left me stranded on the side of the road for 30 minutes. I believe it was the control valve I’m not sure cause my dad ended up fixing something and we also had a new transmission put on it months before it went limp mode on me

I need to do a similar thing as im running 0 offset on my 285/75 and its hanging out a bit, yours look super stealthy and you can't even tell theyre there until you take a close look and thats what im going for, awesome video man, keep up the awesome work.
How good are the navaras for their price? Like any bad steering problems and is it worth more than a triton. I know tritons are a meme but I’m just asking.
What are the wheels on Lloyds D23 ? the car looks boss ! Ive always loved the R51 pathfinders, never owned one but for what they are, sounds just like any other car really. Maintenance seems like key, and that goes to almost every build. Im sure its not much different to owning an import xD
haha yes definitely ! and those rims are some american import that are hard to get, he had a shipment lost and they replaced them with those and we love them
I have a 2007 which the intake and exhurst the only problem is when I flat foot it around 100kmh the power cuts and I have to take my foot of the peddle and put it back on

Love my r50 2000 pathy, picked her up for a steal at 10 k with only 87k on the clock from Original owner, he never got to take her away off road hence I am doing it for him, may he Rest In Peace. Was up at Teewah just one week prior to your trip glad I got in before the closure. Got a place at Teewah township booked for November and cannot wait, great to be a QLD’r!!!
awesome ! yeah teewah is great spot mate !
over here watching from the us i got a pathfinder with the 4liter 2inch suspension lift and 35 inch mudclaw extremes u inspired me man
haha thanks legend !!
Over here in Canada I’ve got a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder it never misses a beat the best car I’ve owned by far for reliability
Really how?
love the effects you have on the video
Considered DI but just ended up at Bribie that day. One day we'll cross paths. Finally orderd a sticker... yours will be the first on my new canopy! D
ahh nice !! legend haha
Hahahahaha seen you fellas out on the weekend I was in the black 80 series yelled out to you and almost wiped out Mac!!! Trucks looked mint in that huge line ! I was leaving as you guys were going loving the videos keep up that great work guys!!!!!
Oh true ! Yeah was a good time😎 got yelled at by lots of people 😆
@@TJANDMAC told my brother the next morning and then I get a picture of you guys pulled up in front of him hahahahaha Todo tyres I told me to get some stickers lol
Haha Macs comment "I'm brought not built" 🤣
haha with his fance new ranger pfff lol
Prado is solid rear. i have a 2004 3.0TD boost turned up and never had any problems in 3 years of owning it. :)
Prado is way better than a Pathfinder
@@ShoeysAdventures Not sure if its sold in OZ, the 95 prado we have here on 1KZ are terrible terrible on fuel.
Lcr34 we have a 90 don’t know about a 95
@@ShoeysAdventures Japanese imports are 95s
I don’t own any Nissans luckily😂😂 nice honest review TJ, gotta watch out for dem rangers though. They go mental about drones in the Cooloola camp areas.
haha bloody Nissans ey
I reckon
Banging video as always, got some good mates.
thankyou :) !
Had a 2006 pathfinder. Kept snapping CV's and killing wheel bearings but loved it, went every were patrols went (with a bit of winching aha). Had 32's and 2-3" lift. Ended up cracking the head at 130k and had to get it towed home.
It drove extremely well though in comparison to the patrol I have now which is such a boat in comparison.
yeah they go so good , people are shocked when they see them on tuff tracks
Loving the videos mate! Need some more DI camping trips 🤩
thanks Alex, i agree haha
If I would suggest to look for a 2010+ upgraded 140kw yd25 Motor as been a lot more bulet proof then previous models.
I never realised Pathfinders were ifs in the rear too. Must be a seriously smooth ride on the road!
Specially when theres 7 people in it 😆
IRS 😂👍🏼
They did that so there'd be somewhere for the third-row passengers' legs and feet to go. The Xterra was only offered as a two-row SUV and its rear suspension is live-axle with leaf springs, similar to the D40 Navara/Frontier. What I find funny about this is the Xterra has a weird roof-hump and the rear doors and cargo roofline are taller, but the Pathy is the one that got the third row.
another great video 👏👌
thanks Owen :)
Nice mate. My D40 is down on power at the moment, so gotta start going through the same process you had.... check piping, check turbo, suction control valve, MAF sensor.... fun times ahead.
Yeah id start with the MAF sensor, only about 30bucks on ebay and its 2 screws, piece of piss
Forget Macs Nav, there is a Pathy In town!!🤙
hahaha , What Nav !
@@TJANDMAChahah that Navs old news!!
my lifted grand vitara diesel keeps up with my mates fj cruiser, mines better on the beach, corrugations and tarmac but not quite as good on rocks cos of the IFS/IRS. uses 7ltrs per 100km to his 12ltrs per 100km though and its about the same size inside
those suzukis are fun hey
Bloody great, loved my old one. My only complaint was ground clearance was shit. Pathfinder has about 15 cm more under the transfer with the same lift!
would u recommend a xterra or a pathfinder ?
Good video, nice Pathfinder! I have had one for at least 6 months now already, and basically nothing broke eventually only 1 thing from an offroad driving, so again, if I would not take it offroad pretty 100 percent sure it would not break at all!!
I suggest also buying 2 vehicle now for offroad Nissan Patrol Y60 or Y61!
I was always told the V6 pathy was fine , the diesel has a lot of problems just like D40 Navara
Nice vid, got the 2006 2.5dci 4wd, where did you get wheels from and name? :-)
Steel wheels, Dlug steelies with fake beadlock
Hello...wow your build is awesome. Whats your suspension and wheel setup?
Scratches and dents just add character to the car😂, Got an 80 series Landcrusier👌🏾 nice vid.
Haha agreed 😆
hey what roof rack did you have on your pathfinder
from memory think it was a Rhino rack that i cut the top bars off , not sure sorry
My 2010 LE V6 (US model) is bone stock and has been worry free for 100k miles (now at 180k)
You have me beat by 1,000 miles. I have a 08 SE V6 (US model) so far so good.
😂 #Pajlife
Haha yeah everyone that recommendeds them seems to currently own one 😆 but agreed they r not bad
Yeah tj
Hey, what's the low range like on these? Eg. on a muddy decent feet off the peddles or covering the brake?
Feet off the pedal generally
I was looking at Pathfinders as Im looking for a 4x4 and started doing research on them. I stumbled across this video, got to 3min and have now decided not to get one.
I'm in the process of a 2.5 inch body lift with 16 inch wheels on 33 inch tires but you guys are making sick shit!
Where did you get your roof rack? Will you provide a link please.
good work, keep it up 👍🏽
G-day mate...
I’m getting one in Germany 🇩🇪 👍
Not sure about the 35 inch tires... might not fit in the garage 😜
My dad has one of these and he can’t take it off-road anymore because the 10 year old clutch gave out
Nissan Xterra 06 here, it keeps up with all the hilux and prados of my friends but the vq40 drinks a lot of fuel
hello mate, can you tell me with size its your tires?😉😉😊😊thank you and keep save.
what tires and size do you use i have a pathfinder too and your tires look perfect i want the same for mine too... hi form Dominican Republic
Hi, I would like to know what kit have you used for the springs and coils. Thanks from Spain.
When wheels lifted and spun, was this with VDC enabled? Did you use this feature while 4WD wheeling?
i got one 2 months ago i love it but it wasn't long until i needed suction control valve fitted as it kept going into limp mode... when i looked up it seems like a common fault.
I brought my dads own to school cause my 3 series needed some work and when I was leaving school the pathfinder went into limp mode and left me stranded on the side of the road for 30 minutes. I believe it was the control valve I’m not sure cause my dad ended up fixing something and we also had a new transmission put on it months before it went limp mode on me
Hey Mate .
Greeting from California USA.
I Have 2011 Nissan Xterra the X Model,
AWSOME TRUCK....!!!
I have 210K Miles
Still Runing Great .
Highly Recommend..
nice vid, i have a 2005 ti dual fuel partyfinder just sitting cos its done a timing chain :(, wondering how the Mac's Ranger is goin? what lift does he run.
keep up the good work
haha the ol partyfinder , he has a 4 inch lift and it goes good
@@TJANDMAC yeh bloody petrol lol. They're rock solid in the road yet to mine offroad 😔. Whats the best upgrade u did to yours? Love the 35's but here in vic we would get picked on lmao
I love your tires and wheels can you please drop a link where can I buy those
D-Lug steel Rims , any tyre shop can order them for you
Hey mate, what flexi flare measurements are those and where did you get them? I need to do a similar thing as im running 0 offset on my 285/75 and its hanging out a bit, yours look super stealthy and you can't even tell theyre there until you take a close look and thats what im going for, awesome video man, keep up the awesome work.
*Sorry, other "mods" (upgrades) I have are a 2.75" Beaudesert s/S exhaust and a Snorkel.
So awesome great video you are good. Get an 80 series petrol diesel doesn't matter Bulletproof
You can get any lady in an 80e
haha agreed !
i need to know if its reliable for offroad ,,,, any concern regarding the gear cooler ?
Hi, I´m from Spain, and have a prepared Pathfinder for off road. I would like to know which springs and
shock absorber have you installed?
Whats the size of rims and tyres you have and how many inches of lift
Very interesting that Nissan would have the patrol along side the pathfinder there I always assumed the pathfinder was a US only vehicle
Im sure its not much different to owning an import xD
haha yes definitely ! and those rims are some american import that are hard to get, he had a shipment lost and they replaced them with those and we love them
I have a 2007 which the intake and exhurst the only problem is when I flat foot it around 100kmh the power cuts and I have to take my foot of the peddle and put it back on
sounds like possibly a dodgy airflow sensor or fuel filter issue ?
Mate, what size wheels did you put on it? What was the Tyre size, rim size and offset? They look fantastic.
hey yeah they were a 17 rim with a 35 tyre, 0mm offset
What do think of the 550 ti pathfinder
hell yeah👌👌
I had an np pajero, it was a great car reliability wise and pretty good off-road for what it was. That being said I now have an s4 partol and will never go back haha
Is that bird at 8:21 in the nuddy! cheeky
lol goin to be hard to keep the boys at 1.5m ...
You mean a year with a beautiful truck
exactly haha
What suspension and tyre size you had on that
4 inch with 35s
