I absolutely love TMNT 2, but I do wish I could see what the “darker-tone” version would be like. The jokes and wisecracks are surprisingly pretty funny and very well-written, but it definitely lost something by the turtles (besides Donnie) never actually using their weapons. Because of the more comedic and lighthearted tone, at times it also feels like this wasn’t a direct sequel because of how differently Raphael acted. Although, that change in tone fit perfectly with Mikey’s character, and he has the best jokes in the entire movie. “Yeah... a little TOO Raph...” gets me every time lol.
Such a fantastic movie, and I think we ended-up getting the best movie possible. I hate that they made it more kid-friendly because of stupid parents complaining, but I doubt the movie would have been as good if they had kept the same dark tone of the original. It would have lost a lot of the great jokes (“COMBAT COLD-CUTS!!”), and probably Tokka and Rahzar. They’re definitely knock-offs of Beebop and Rocksteady, but I love them anyway.
A darker tone could have worked, but it would have needed a really good story and strong writing to make it work. What they released with TMNT 3 makes me doubtful they would have gotten that strong story for TMNT 2, so I’m very happy with what we got, even if it does feel very different from the original.

Super fun video, however, I hate to break it to you guys, but this video is incorrect, the turtles were not blind. They did not sew the eye holes shut in the masks, they just did a really good job of keeping them small. It was still extremely difficult to see, but it was possible.

    • @FunFactFilms

Years of experience making these videos has showed me that conflicting versions of these stories sometimes exist. My research came from a 1991 NY Times article that can be found online where Leonardo’s stunt double Mark Caso tells about the eye holes being sewn shut. Does that make your version wrong? No, of course not. And if you can, please share your source to help add context to this thread. All of this is just another example of how it can be difficult to find the truth when more than one version of the story are out there.

@@FunFactFilms Totally appreciate your position and your work, your videos are a lot of fun. My source is me, I played Raphael in the film and worked very closely with Mark. Oftentimes, what makes it to the press is the reporter's version of the story they heard. Also, Mark was not Leo's stunt double, that was Larry Lam. Mark was the "actor turtle." Again, great job on your videos.

Hello, Josh Pais, Raphael! Josh had a legitimate reason because being in the suit gave him clostrophobia pretty bad. I wish he could of at least voiced Raph in 2 and 3. Adam Carl voicing Donnie? No. That annoying laugh he had!

Blind actors... when I was a kid in that time we had 3 USD masks that were jet black and SEE THROUGH. but I guess entombing the poor actors was the easier and cheaper option.

yea i still like the 2nd slightly better just the last few scenes with them feeding tokar and razzar transitioning into the dance scene blew my mind. Hopefully we can all agree 3 was terrible, still remember first scene looking at the turtles and saying what is wrong with them, and then the whole thing in ancient japan with their headpieces with no shredder (if i even watched that far) didn't feel very turtles to me and was a huge letdown.

I thought they didn't use Bebop and Rocksteady was because they would have been too expensive what with them being a toyline original instead of comic

I don’t think Casey Jones’s mask in the first movie. He looks at scary. I think that just looks accurate to the TMNT Kartu not the original not the second version but the third version.

The actors performing blind seems very unrealistic. Having to film each shot in that many takes would be too costly, in both money and time.
