CNE fountains and monuments

  • You can tell I'm getting to the end of my videos taken at the CNE! The grounds have several fountains, but only the first, the Princess Margaret, is in a prominent place.
Most of the others are at the south end, away from everything else, and are probably not seen by most visitors. The large fountain seen in the middle of this video is the Shrine peace monument, donated by the Shriners and Freemasons in 1930. It is followed by a view of the Fort Rouille obelisk.
The last fountain, the McGillivray, has not been running for years, despite having a plaque telling its history and significance. I think it's rather ugly, with slabs of concrete mostly hiding the actual fountain of water. It's like a show of urban ugliness triumphing over nature. That being said, combined with the CNE's unwillingness to keep it maintained and running, I wouldn't miss it if they took it down.
