Good video. I've been riding around Sherwood pines since the early 90s and its come a long way.. .but your summary is spot on. Tornado alley is a blast and by fat the best part. Overall it is a trail to just go flat out, there is no real "gnarrr" value (the downhill bit is hardly worth bothering with) but if you strava it's fun to try and knock off a minute from your time. My best is about 45 min but I'm an over weight middle aged bloke 😄. So I can really see how people are putting in 38 min times. Cannock is certainly a step up but to be fair I prefer the natural trails of the Peak District. There's more to life than trail centres 🤘
Thanks for that input and hey, everyone needs a pizza / beer gut! I know I have one :P I've explored the Peaks once, on the Peak District Pioneer but I guess it didn't go completely natural. I'm exploring the Lakes and the Scottish borders later in the year. Are there any natural spots in the Peaks you'd recommend?
The peak pioneer is a good distance run around the white peak, so lots of beautiful white limestone walled farm tracks. You are missing the best mountain biking area though...up around Ladybower reservoirs and Edale/Castleton. Get up there for a totally different experience! Great fun on your hardtail 😊
PS if you are up in the lakes Whinlatter good, Grizedale meh! For natural trails the drop along Walna Scar road to Torver is pretty mint. You can check it on one of my vids!
I'll take a look! We'll be up there in October for another one of those Pioneer events but I think my friend wants to scout the area the day before when I'm doing a running event so I'll let them know too
I have to wholly agree about the abysmal signposting around Sherwood Pines. It's such a basic thing and desperately needs sorting out. I went for the first time yesterday, couldn't find the start of the red trail, so just had to go off exploring. I found sections of the red trail, which suited my level really well, but ultimately I ended up going around in circles.
I’m impressed with how much flow they’ve got into those trails beings though there isn’t much elevations. I’ll have to go over and check it out. Thanks for the video
No problem. There is one small center closer to me (Hicks Lodge) that only has a blue trail and even less elevation but I actually think they've done a much better job there. It's a lot of pedalling but the flow seems a lot more consistent and they've chucked in lots of (very small) berms and little jumps/table tops. I'll have to go back and make a video.
More pedalling on the flat stuff means you can go even faster when it gets steeper! We should do a joint video at Hicks if you fancy it. Have a mini whip comp!
Has this guy really given his bike a name?! The pines is my local trail centre, I live just over the border in Derbyshire . I normally ride in the peak district but come here for a couple of quick blast laps when it's too boggy in the peaks during the winter, and it's good for beginners as I bring my 10yr old son & 12 yr old daughter. It is fun but very flat, with a nice cafe and bike wash facilities.Yeah the car park fees are high but that doesn't bother me,I'd rather pay to park there and go and have some fun than pay to park in a shopping centre and trudge around that ! I would recommend Sherwood pines if your looking for a good non stop pedalling trail, but if you're looking for more of a challenge and more fun the next nearest trail centre is Cannock Chase, which is pretty darn good.
I'm trying to find videos of the old dual descender track which had a massive jump over a trench in the middle (which I almost fell into many years ago). I think that's gone now with the new trails sadly, I swear the dual descender was steeper than this but it's over 10 years since I've been there so I'm not too sure.
Was planning on doing the blue with my family, found it boring and then ended up doing this with my friend and we both decked it once. I’m 12 so that proves something about this route.

Yeh I'll be up for doing some group stuff this year. There's a fair few demos coming up soon too which would be good to get some group input on.
Ha ha! The start of the video is exactly like me trying to find the trails!
Hidden away at the back. I'll have to go back once all these restrictions are lifted.

Just ridden it. Much less demanding physically and technically than Cannock. Some good drops. Tornado alley is the best bit.
Tornado alley is definitely the best bit!
A good video, I'll be taking my cannondale slate round there, and my son, as it's more of a blue route than a red, definitely.
Thank you. Have fun! There's also a skills park there which I seem to have missed!

Thanks for showing this. The "Trail" looks like an Cross Country Fitness warmup "Trail".
Red Route is a fantastic training ground if your going Wales.
But you have to do Bike park & Jump park on the same day.
Hey man great video. What’s the instrumental music?

Everyone crashes! As long as you can get back up and keep going that's all the matters.
That's a good looking bike. GMBN just posted a tutorial for submitting a photo to the Bike Vault.
