When you were talking about using robots to fuel trains, I had the strange vision of an inserter picking up a robot, then starting to rotate rapidly. Then shot putting it towards the train that needed fuel. Which caused me to start laughing.
I'm pretty sure the thick longer thick bits on the track are the ramps to/from elevated to ground, and the short thick bits are the pillars holding the elevated rail above the water.
What would be cool is a train mounted robo port so you could have a train that could build or refuel that way. The medical drones blew my mind when I saw that. I think it was a Mark Rober video.
some of the bigger mods (eg. K2 and SE) add equipment space into trains, which can then have personal roboports inserted. With the remote driving, you could essentially lay the track as you manually (but remote) drive the train forward.
I literally had the "train running out of fuel on a different planet" situation about 2 hours ago (Space Exploration mod).
I'd expanded an off-world processing array, and when done I forgot to put back some roboports. This split my logisitics network, which split the drop station of the raw material from the area that produced fuel. So my trains went along for a while with their reserve (and what sat in the requester chest), but eventually ran out of fuel.
The knock-on effect was that the final alloy - cargo rocketed to the in orbit of another planet - dried up, and halted a huge chunk of production.
Also, in answer to your suggestion: instead of a new bot, an (almost) existing solution would be using a remote-controlled spidertron to deliver the fuel. You'd just need a way to tell the spidertron to deposit some fuel in the train.

Elite: Dangerous has limpet drones. They're used to deliver emergency fuel by the in-game group called the Fuel Rats. (A group of players that run these humanitarian missions to help stranded pilots, not an NPC faction)
I love seeing how engaged and happy you are about the improvements the Factorio devs are showing off to us. I think most of the Factorio community is waiting like children on Christmas for the release😄
Super Force aslo adds landfill automaticlly. Priority is usful for your building train I think.
It is always fun to see you act naturally. I can get crazy about stuff too, that others only find meh themselves.
All the people that brought Factorio alive an into this form deserve praise for their continous support. Big gamaing companies should take their approach as a golden standard. Yes the waiting is long. but at least most of it will work and be an improvement. And at no giant cost to our wallets. it can't be free, devs need to eat too.
Yeah, I'm so impressed with the Factorio devs. They stand by their vision and keep the community at the core of their plan. Love that there are no microtransactions, just pay a fiar price for the game and play it forever! (And I have no doubt the DLC will also be a fair price).
