I thought he was adorable when I was 14 and still think he was adorable. RIP dear Peter. Dick Cavett was always brilliant and a master at drawing so much out of his guests. Great post - thank you!
His manners and his etiquettes are divine. Cigarette in his hands, he liked to drink and yet we would not dare calling him a drunk and indisciplined. He was an Irish gent at the top of his game. Rip peter
He was only 32/33 when this was filmed, he looks like he's pushing 45, people just aged different back then. The refined grey in the beard is a look tho 👌
As a retired US Army soldier I can attest to the skill of being able to drink all night and work the next day. It is possible to do but it WILL age you considerably.

Impossible. Peter O'toole is a gift to life.
When stars were stars
It's only really podcasts that do long form interviews/conversations now. Cavett is a master.

Same!
Peter O'Toole...one of the greatest actors and most engaging Irish raconteurs of our time. Much respect, and peace be upon him!
O'Toole is a charismatic character.
He's so interesting to listen too. Great interview
I adore this interview and have watched it so many times. He is delightful in every way.
A true character and gentleman
Just a different intellect and true charisma from the social media ‘stars’ of today …the word star, let alone superstar today is worthless
Precisely!

Quite humble at times.
Class! What a classic piece.Thank you SO much for posting this gem.
Peter could’ve also been a stand up comedian. His comic timing when telling stories was always present…
Peter just chaining them smokes!
Caveat said O’Toole was drunk and after the show, started throwing chairs, the table and Cavett into the audience, screaming “ Areopagitica“.
The Lawrence of Arabia review moment is my favorite by far. “It’s salutary.”

great stuff. love peter and dick.
O'Toole was terrified of interviews ,Cavett and Parkinson put him at his ease.
He would have played a good gandalf 😂
He could have a played a good anything ...
I can almost hear him yelling “None shall pass”!!!!
The host was Johnny Carson from The Tonight Show.
no, that is Dick Cavett ...
@@anneroy4560 In this Cavett interview, Peter mentions a short interview with an unnamed host whom Nora Jones names.
Like how you can hear the Irish accent...
His accent is pure RADA, Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, he grew up in a grimy suburb of Leeds .
Peter otoole was English born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England and lived there
Irish parents.
@@mitzipepall3075 still born and lived in England
Had an Irish passport and always claimed he was from Connemara, Mayo, West Ireland.
But still...
@@martinmcdonald4207 he wasn’t tho 😂😂😂
was it necessary to deliberately edit the clips out of chronological order?
American prurience.
I always thought Peter o’Toole was blond.
In an interview years ago, he said something to the effect of, “My friend, Lady Clairol. Those bottles are the next best thing to to Irish Whiskey!”
He was...maybe.
He was born a blond, but took liberties with his appearance whenever the fancy struck him, I guess.
