I understand what the intentions were behind the changes, trying to add more diversity, but the main or at least any relevant characters shouldn’t have had to go through as many changes as some of them did. Plum Pudding is a great example - not only is she a whole other gender, but she is now a different race on top of that? If you want to make your characters more diverse than sure, go ahead, but don’t make too many changes to any of the main characters, to the point where some are literally unrecognisable. One great way of adding diversity into a reboot of a beloved series is making completely new characters as the main ones, and having the original cast move on in their lives.
i think its just the fact that they’re stripping the character of its identity in a sense, they could’ve easily made a new character POC and keep the originals the way they were. I’m all for inclusivity and representation, but im just saying; to white wash previously POC characters is a little unnecessary.

I have a few theories! 1. Huckle Berry and Ginger Snap got married. Perhaps when they became adults, Huckle Berry Pie, who was caucasian, and Ginger Bread, who had a darker complexion, got married and gave birth to the Huckle Berry Pie we see in Berry in the big city. The offspring inherited his father's green eyes, and his mothers dark skin. This would also explain why we never saw Ginger Bread after the 2007 series. Angel Cakes could also be the mother to one of the new generation characters, since she never appeared in the TV show either. 2. The cast from Berry and the big city is a brand new generation. The children from the original TV series grew up and got married, and gave birth to the strawberry shortcake characters we see in Berry in the Big City. Perhaps the OG Peppermint and Plum Pudding got married to men of the opposite race. This would explain the peculiar race and gender swaps for the Peppermint and Plum Pudding we see in the show. On top of that, although we do se Lemon Meringue's father in Berry in the Big City, we never see her mother, who could be the OG Lemon Meringue. 3. Aunt Praline is Apple Dumpling. If Apple Dumpling became an adult like everyone else, then she would become family to the new generation of characters. She does share some similar features to her 2003 appearance. She also fills in the role of Strawberries aunt, implying that she has at least one sibling, who could be the original Strawberry Short Cake. literally why does it matter, strawberry shortcake characters are all based off of FOODS. the color of their skin means absolutely nothing to their character so why is race changing one characters race such an issue? also, a good chunk of strawberry shortcakes cast was white and that is NOT a good look especially for a kids brand. you can sit here and cry all you want about the race bending but at the end of the day they are all candy colored little kids named after foods.

The one I new prior to BITBC was SBSC '03 (though I lost access to for years and didn't get back to watching it until after I watched BITBC) You can say that BITBC was what got me back into SBSC (though IDK much about what came before the 2003 cartoon)

Tangerine wasn't white washed, she was changed from afro Latina to just Latina to represent more people
