Graduating from Canterbury College of Art in the late 1960’s, David spent his working life in design and advertising. Starting out in the record industry, designing album covers at Decca and EMI, he went on to be one of the founding members of London-based design agency, Clinic, with clients including Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Megastores, Sky, BBC, ITV and Barclays Bank.
In 2007 David gave up the day job and swapped his role as a creative director for that of painter, printmaker and photographer. He has travelled extensively in the United States, producing books of photographs and written observations of his meanderings on highways and byways east to west, north to south. Much of his work has continued to draw inspiration from popular culture, notably music, film and fiction. His recent paintings have set out to observe and represent some of the fleeting, quiet, easily overlooked moments that combine to make up experiences of the everyday.
