- If you feel like an OC can't look good without fades, then that's what this video is for.
Sorry for going 3 weeks without uploading! I am working on multiple projects at once, I hope you can understand that. This is one of the projects that is complete, the editing took a long time. I stutter a lot in my voiceovers, to let you know. Just keep in mind that I'm actually trying to put effort into my videos now.
I have nothing against fades, they're pretty and I use them, but I'm just trying to make it clear that they aren't required to make an OC look good. There are many other strategies that you can do to make a nice-looking OC, large possibilities of patterns and nicely blending color palettes for each tribe. However, I just go over four tribes that I think are the most necessary: SilkWings, RainWings, SkyWings, and IceWings. I go through the multiple possibilities and explain more about making good color palettes and doing different pattern strategies for each tribe.
INSPIRATION IS ALLOWED, but if I say "don't steal an OC" then that means don't steal the OC.
I hope you enjoy this, I hope it was worth the wait, and I'm trying to work on more actual content like this. And I know I make it seem important that you make a good looking dragon, but this is pretty much if you're actually worried about that. Don't worry too much about making your dragon look good though. It's all just about having fun. Fades or no fades, everyone is beautiful in their own way.

For the other tribes, I like to look up stuff like “blue color palletes” for Seawings and “red color palletes” for Skywings etc
One tip for colours is play around. Don’t put in any paint tool stuff that’s really intricate, just fiddle around and see what you like!
It’s great to have a video like this. In my experience I’ve discovered that fades don’t mean everything to a good looking character. I used to have extreme fades on my main RainWing at some point just to impress the fashion show judges. It’s silly looking back at it. I still love fades but I tend to no longer add it when it isn’t necessary now.
Evergreen is the my most recent oc and they have weird chunky mint faded parts, and it just works for me. Also they’re the first character in a long time who has some proper lore behind them (instead of basic stuff or developed in roleplays). I currently have a mild obsession with the IceWing tribe because of a Whiteout hyperfixation because reasons. In fact Whiteout is the character in my profile right now.
the main rainwing having extreme fades reminds me of my OC Hibiscus. She was a design from very late 2020. I faded her entirely.
My OC Phoenix just had a tail fade cuz I didn’t really know how to do them and now she has a fiery underscale fade
Honestly, OCs without fades are just as beautiful as OCs with fades! I just prefer fades because I think it's unique because so far what I've read no characters from the book have fades. Also beautiful OCs!
A cool thing I just thought of is taking a pic of their namesake or something related to their tribe and then using that as a palette. For instance, gems.
I have a Rainwing in this game called Juniper! She is my favorite oc so far, and she actually has barely any fades. Fades are actually hard for me to make pleasing, so I used patterns on her. Her only fade is one her tail, which actually is pleasing. This is a great tutorial, keep this great work up!
P.S It is actually nice to find a video which when making a good character, usually always uses fades. (No offense to the players who do it alot! I actually do it myself, just not alot as I used to do.)

Dude this is more than helpful. All of my oc’s have some sort of fade because I can’t color right lol
Checkered feet kinda look like poorly torn up socks or someone misclicked while trying to give toe markings.
Another tip is taking inspiration from actual animals with similar color palletes to the dragons.
Making the entire neck one color on ice wings looks good too in my opinion, maybe even including the head.

This seriously helped me with one of my newer oc’s, Peony. I couldn’t have a blue-red fade on her without her looking like a bomb pop…
Turns out, I just had to ditch the white and keep the gray as an accent.

My main rain well really it's a fantribe doesn't have fades same with my main skywing I'm trying with the rest and thats why I'm here I also find a 2 coloured striped it always looks great and armoured like my main rain! So yea

Oh I know another way to make a nice oc. A "roan" color aka solid face. It looks nice is done correctly

This is nothing like I expected. I really expected the video to be showing some examples of morphs we can use without fades, like the thumbnail is. But really, it's just showing a single morph you made that you put time into. No offense, but I had higher expectations. (This is my opinion, idc if you dont like it.)
