    The number on the bottom of the club is immaterial. The only relevant thing is how far you hit a particular club. Manufacturers should just make clubs with the degree of loft printed on the bottom and forget the numbers

    Love the channel. I think you guys are missing a key point when talking about the lofts. To Lee's point that it makes no sense to him to have a club that is meant to get the ball in the air. But at the same time being strong lofted. A huge factor for that is these clubs are meant for someone with very slow swing speeds. The strong lofts get the distance they need and the big low cg gets it in the air.

    two shots with the Cobra on the green, two great strikes and nice flight = not going in the bag cause you dont like the bling. Shame people get stuck on brand snobbery.
    I would agree though that you could get a flier with the cobra, however you could get the same flier with the titleist

    I just started playing for the first time a month ago and had the Speedzones custom fitted. They're great for someone who has never picked up a club before! I love the Carbon Fiber top because not only does it look good but it gives me confidence over the ball. The lofts are 4-19d, 5-21d, 6-24d, 7-27.5d, 8-32d, 9-37d, PW-42.5d, and my gap is 48d. I also have the speedzone Xtream 10.5d driver, the speedzone big tour 15d 3 wood, the speedzone 2h hybrid, and the 52 and 58d MIM wedges. Love them all and for a pure beginner they are awesome!

      In my experience with the F9 clubs, unless you have a swing speed above the mid 70 mph you might as well stop with the irons at the 7 iron and use hybrids. You may well get gapping issues with the longer irons/ low flight trajectory.

    Lee, they have to deloft them because the technology of MOI and lowering of the weight on the clubs mean that, with traditional lofts, they would shoot straight up in the air.

    I don't see reviews penalizing blades for being unforgiving so why penalize a GI iron for being game improvement??
    Strong lofted clubs like these aren't meant for players with good ball speed. They're more suited for players with lower swing speeds. The strong lofts helps them maintain ball speed. Coupled that with the low CG it gets the ball up in the air. That combination produces higher ball speed and launch.
    People complain about jacked lofts but they're not the market and personally I could probably benefit from them if I put my ego aside (I'm not getting younger). But strong lofted GI irons aren't new. They've been around for years. Doubt they'd keep making them if they weren't selling. And I definitely know a few weekend golfers in my club who can benefit instantly by using these clubs and probably enjoy the game more as a result.

      100% agree mate me included I'm 50 yrs old and play off 6 and am starting to lag behind my younger playing partners so i switched to the cobra sz irons in January. I would never go back to blades or players irons as these cobra are a game changer for me. Bought them in January and i love them. My scores are no worse at all in fact I've lots more confidence with them and my distance obviously is one club less to greens but i don't care at all.

    Sorry Guys, but there is an issue here. GI clubs are not designed for Pros & low handicap golfers they are designed for golfers with slow swing speeds who struggle to get the ball airborne. So you two testing these clubs and bringing your "mindset" of what an Iron should be is giving a skewed analysis. It's like giving a Blade to a high handicapper and asking them to judge the Blade on the performance that they get with the Balde, the results and analysis are going to be flawed.

      @gregorybell3018 4 года назад

      Yes, you really hit the nail on the head. Their conclusions are so off since these clubs aren't targeting them at their skill level. I would also add that they make the T100 and T200 series for these guys. So, if they can't step outside of themselves in to the shoes of a mid-handicap golfer, why bother doing GI club reviews at all.

But whether you agree with me or not there is a potential issue when Pros test Game Improvement Clubs that aren't designed for them, there will tend to be a biased/skewed conclusion because that particular Club is offering tech features that aren't to the liking a Pro Golfer.

    Game improvement irons that you completely refuse to judge as a product for it's intended audience. Slower swing speeds and beginners that hit all over the face and yet neither of you bothered to think about these clubs in that way. Pretty sad....who gives a damn about commentary of an iron and how it looks or it's loft compared to a blade? You both completely disregard the engineering behind these clubs and the intentional results built in. If you two were in a pro shop you would literally talk people into $1200 sets of irons that they could never control because you'd spend 80% of you time telling them about a freaking "top line" that does absolutely nothing to help them improve their mis-hits and game.

      These guys should play two rounds each with their own set and then play two rounds with the SGI irons and see which one comes out on top. ( Trying to see if even a pro can benefit from SGI) I'm almost positive after 36 holes with each set that the SGI comes out the winner. (unless they sabotage themselves on purpose)
      To Add to that: I swing pretty fast. I have a fairly low handicap and I love my new Super game improvement irons. I just switched from a forged gamers CB with a reasonably compact head to a cast Super Game improvement iron set. I was struggling with my ego until I dropped four strokes and felt like every shot was climbing higher and going straighter. My driver head speed is approx 110 mph. (Play X flex in driver) I have no trouble getting the ball in the air nor do struggle for distance with any club. But...Why wouldn't someone make the game easier...It's hard enough already. I now play a regular shafted light weight (D1.5) Super Game improvement set. I don't care how looks. The confidence over the shot is addictive. I'm never going back.

      Mike Newton actually LIKED the "bling" on the top of the club and gave it great reviews for what it is. That said, Rickie Fowler and Rahm carry game improvement irons (one each)! I shoot in the 70's most days with my Ping G 400 driver and Callaway XR OS irons. Why would I want to play clubs that are harder to hit just because they "look" better? Ego is not your friend in golf. Play whatever allows you to have more fun/better scores is my motto.

    • @WreckedRectum
      @WreckedRectum 3 года назад +1

      I agree. I have the SZs, and the top bling part is not distracting, my mind is busy with everything else (posture, swing technique, holding the club correctly etc), focusing on the pattern at the top of the club is not even remotely on my mind lol. As for the confidence thing with the bottom back being visible or not makes no difference to me. All this confidence speak seems strange, but that might just be that I don’t get golfing quite yet. Seems to me, at first glance, that good golfers are the most insecure people in the world 😄”Oh, heavens! I can see the back of the club a little, well that’s my confidence out the window”. 🤣

    Only catching up on this vid now, great stuff as always from you both :) I tested the t300 last summer and absolutely loved it, seeing a club stamped with 7 going the height of my seven iron but the distance of my 6 was incredibly enticing for me as a high handicapper.. if money was no object I'd have these in the bag in a heartbeat, at the time budgetary constraints dictated I could either buy half set of t300 or a new driver.. and i opted for the big stick instead, a choice well made as my ts2 is absolute pride of place in my golf bag. I know price is a relative term depending on individual circumstances, I think for future showdown vids however (after lockdown obviously) you should consider mentioning the RRP of the clubs, doesn't have to be a factor in the scoring of them but would be an interesting extra little nugget to have ... keep up the brilliant work 👍👍👍👍

    Late comment on this video...im 9 h' cap but play the SZ because i have slow swing speed....the 8 iron down doesn't have the cut out and looks good behind the ball...the performance is great....one thing no body ever talks about with strong lofts is the length of shaft...so you may have 5 iron loft....but its much easier to hit in 7 iron length...and the peak heights mean it stops ok
    Now the rub...im going to sell mine just because i dont like how they look...i hate plastic in the back of golf clubs...thought i could get over it but i cant stand how they look in the bag...which i know is a stupid reason to change😂🤣

    Dan/Lee can I ask your opinion on something. I'm a 14 handicapper, I've had the odd round as low as 9 so have potential to get better.... My ball striking is pretty good.
    My normal everyday clubs are cobra f7 one lengths... I have LW- 3i and honestly I love them. End of last year I bought an old school set of mizuno tp-9s and had them refurbished just as a bit of a treat to myself.
    I've not been able to commit to so much 18 hole golf over the last 2 years, so have just joined my clubs par 3 course for the coming season. Holes are a really varied mix of 110-175 yards and I'm hoping to be able to play twice a week for the coming year due to a change in work/life balance.
    So here (finally) is my question.... Would you commit to playing the tp-9s regularly with the idea that I'll "have" to improve further by playing with them. Or stick with the game improvement level cobra one lengths and accept the help they give me?
    Cheers for the great content. Adam.

    • @LWG
      @LWG 4 года назад +1

      Adam,
      It's a difficult question to answer. The reason I say that is, if you love the Cobra One Length and play well with them, then why change? Going into the Mizuno and struggling initially wont improve your golf and may make you hate the game. I'm a big advocate to fitted clubs and the only way I'd say to change is if they are fitted for you.
      Alternatively, you can use the Cobra and every now and then practice with the mizuno. But ultimately it comes down to consistency of strike. If your hitting centre on cobra you will hit centre on most other clubs. If your missing centre, stick with a club that will help with that. Only change in golf if it improves your game. Those are my thoughts mate.

    The Cobra just does not suit my eye - for me it looks cheap and that logo on the back just screams out at me. Titleist is a nice looking club.
    Lofts - this never worried me, I ignore the number on the bottom of the club and go off the loft. If the design means the 29 degree club goes as far as my current 29 degree club (6i i210) but goes higher, spins much the same and is easier to launch that is a win for me. However, there is an issue with really strong lofts, generally amateurs do not have masses of club head speed (Lee is the exception) so there is a cut off point in loft which is the limit of what they can launch. For me that is about 25 degrees (5i in i210), anything below that is too inconsistent. In the Cobra SZ that means the 6i is about the strongest iron I could comfortable play

    they are long , reasonably priced, forgiving, easy to hit and im scoring good with them

    When this mess is over and if I'm still here, I plan to get fitted for a new bag of clubs. I'm sure I'll try the Titleist t series but not the cobra, no no no . Pimp clubs cheap plastic bling.

    I just don’t get it. You don’t hit ball with top line. Looks don’t make ball go straight. It just sounds so silly to me. Anything I buy in life is about function golf clubs are about function and performance. I love golf have played for years.
    Part of why the sport get criticized is the snobbish attitude. Stuff like this top line being off putting is just plain snobby.
    I watch every video you put out and I like your channel. I all of you on your channel seem reasonably down to earth considering where your from, but the snobby is off putting to a lot of people.

    Please forget the number on the bottom and judge the clubs but their lofts (or near lofts), i.e. loft to loft. it doesn't matter what the number is on the bottom. We would get a lot more out of the review if you did it by loft. thanks.

    I don’t hit the ball with back of club don’t care what’s there.
    If you were on tv playing on Sunday with Tiger, Cory, Bryson and so on maybe it might mean more. I have never heard a player on any course I’ve played say oh that iron is too chunky.
    I really am not trying to be mean but put yourself on this side and listen to yourself.

    They keep on coming out with new clubs and the evidence is that less and less people are taking up golf, with more and more golf clubs closing down, So im lost as to why they do. There is no way any player under 15hc play these type of irons. With the cost of irons, I know and play with players of 10hc and under who are playing with 10 yr old irons and will not change them. Surely there is no market for them.

      I agree. I never would have thought I would buy Cobra clubs. I was in denial when I saw Cobra out performed Mavrik, Sim Max, Ping, and Titleist. I really didnt want to buy the speedzones because of the bling on top but I simply couldn't deny the superior performance.

      I hit Callaway Mavricks, Cobra Speedzone, Ping i410, Titleist t300 and some random cleveland clubs today and ended up walking out the door with the cobras. After i dialed it in i was banging them consistently in the 5 degree range of straight. I couldn't consistently get that with the other clubs. They just feel great!

    My problem with the Cobra plastic is that it will eventually come off, be lost and the club then looks cheap. That happened with my Cleveland TT 8 and 9 irons so I will never buy a club with similar add ons.

Don’t get me wrong I like your videos when your playing. You guys are very good golfers and I learn a lot from watching your teaching and playing videos. I have hit all kinds of irons and I just don’t care what it looks like just how it performs. I don’t really look at the club I focus on where I want the club to strike the ball.
