Cliff Burton was an artist long before he joined Metallica. He taught James about rhythm and harmony and James has been using it ever since Cliff's passing

yeah he never played it the same. IDK if this is true but I heard that there was like 7 other recordings of the song in the studio and they just picked the one.
In his own words...when he would come to some city for the first time he would play close to studio version...and when he visited another time he would do a new solo with bits and pieces of studio one
