All you critics if Preller out there are nuts. Every year since Preller has been running the Padres the team has been interesting. I remember when aprelker was hired everyone agreed the Padres had a zero farm system. Prior ownership didn't invest in players at any level and even famously refused to draft a sure Hall of Fame pitcher with the #1 draft pick and instead drafted a local kid because he was cheap to sign who quickly washed out and got in trouble and later tried to make a comeback as a pitcher. I remember Preller 's first years signing Matt Kemp and a bit later Kimbrell as though they were the start and promise of championship clubs. If course neither produced winning teams but those times were attention getting and different from the Kevin Towers teams that were sometimes very good but never had a really high ceiling because the team wouldn't spend for talent. The entire Preller tenure has been steadily building not just to win but by establishing a solid foundation. Stuff like investing in the Dominican. Hiring Shildt long before a manager job was even available. Most teams like the Marlins, Reds and D-backs do a major fire sale after a successful year and go into hibernation for about 15 years before producing another winner ng team. Preller has been creative from the biggu g, collecting player talent in unusual ways like signing Everything Cabrera as a Rule 5 draftee and even this year Kolek as a Rule 5. Preller has been doing a good job always aiming high. Not every move turns out good but enough does and everyone should understand that without change and playing it safe leads to mediocrity.
As we approach the Padres vs Dodgers series, I’m posting my comical SoCal all-star line-up. 1. Ohtani DH 2. Betts SS 3. Tatis RF 4. Freeman 1B 5. Machado 3B 6. Merrill CF 7. Profar LF 8. Will Smith C 9. Arraez 2B
This is the perfect SoCal line-up. Given the payrolls and everything, it's surprising that the Padres have 5 of the 9. And your #1 starting pitcher would probably be Padre as well.
As long as they dont have those sand uniforms or the Dodger rip off ones, I am all for the old school unis. Mr Relevant was a great moment. I think my favorite moment so far was Merrill almost hitting that HR in Boston to his mom in CF. Right in the middle of his surge to contention for ROY. Profar is a Mexican or taco pizza. Even the taco bell one. Better than you think and when it's gona everyone gets mad.
All you guys questioning Suarez as the closer shouldn't be Fans and coaches. Suarez is a special talent, hardly anyone else can throw 100 mph with the control Suarez has. Some others might throw 100 but either throw in the same location only or can't throw in the intended location. Suarez can move his fastball all around the strike zone. I blame recent HRs on pitching the ball where the batter is expecting. Whether that's the catcher calling a bad game or the pitcher not executing, AI don't know but the pitcher shouldn't automatically be blamed To all who suggest a closer change, keep in mind how hard it is to hit a 100 mph fastball, Practically the only way to hit a 100 mph fastball is to know or guess where the ball will be
Sadly, there is no shot. Skenes is a pitching anomaly and is amazing. Merrill is awesome, and I want him to win, but Skenes is doing something that has never been done. Again, it's stupid they're being compared, but it is what it is

De Los Santos would’ve been too easy if he was still around, meatball sub
One more thing. If Skenes finishes with a sub-2 era, do we think there is any chance Merrill can win ROY.
