  • At the YWCA Saskatoon ground breaking for the new transitional housing wing in September 2023, Intern Architect Sarah Lipsit with AODBT spoke about the importance of a dedicated project design team to ensure women and kids will be able to move in within a short time frame, have all their needs met, and feel safe.
    __
YWCA Saskatoon is addressing the overwhelming need in the community and to help more women and children move forward on a path to hope, health, and healing. The first priority of their $19 million Hope Lives Here fundraising campaign is to increase the number of available Crisis Shelter and Transitional beds with a 71-bed expansion.
In 2022, the YWCA Saskatoon Crisis Shelter & Residence turned away a staggering 2699 women, 169 youth, and 1385 children who needed a safe place to stay. Not only are these women and their families in need of a place to sleep, often they are fleeing abusive situations, looking for a hot meal, or needing support for addictions. The women and families who enter the doors of the YWCA are at low points in their lives, and access to support is a necessity for their well-being.
Once exposed to a cycle of violence, it takes 7 to 8 tries for a woman to leave. Another wing to the existing Crisis Shelter & Residence will more than double the YWCA’s capacity, and help families stay together by increasing long-term shelter beds and space so women can stay with their children.
You can make a difference in the life of a woman and child today by providing preferred pricing, in-kind donations, actual donations, or pledging a gift. Your generosity will support women and their families, and provide more women and kids with a safe place to stay right here in Saskatoon. Your support will ensure this place is safe, up to code, and is the welcoming, warm home women and children deserve.
