I totally understand. I honestly thought 90% of callers were trolls or pranks calls. It was such a strange realisation when I was hit with the gravity of it after watching the show for a while, that there are actually people who think like this and they do actually exist. I’m from the UK and I’ve never really met a religious person in my life and didn’t know it was this bad. It’s actually mind boggling that there are people who are so indoctrinated and frankly, brainwashed or are so wilfully and morally ignorant that they advocate for things like slavery because it pertains to their dogma. Despite what the hell this guy is saying, he’s not wrong. It takes much more belief to be an atheist and evolutionist than it would to believe in a creator deity due the impossible chances of the concept of macroevolution even existing. Religion has been very usefull in the past mainly in uniting other people and probably other stuff as well (I am not that well informed so take what I say with a grain of salt). And in modern day its very usefull for emotional comfort. I dont believe in it and I cant imagine somebody does believe in it but I can understand the appeal.

Raul if you're going to use an argument from authority you should consider that poll after poll reveals that more than 97% of scientists accept the theory of evolution, which increases to 99.85% among natural sciences (so excluding fields like engineering and computer science). It is not based on faith. It is based on the scientific method, where claims need to be falsifiable, and predictions need to be repeatable. The fact that I as a layman accept evolution, is because I accept that the scientific method has been the most reliable source of discovering facts about nature...don't you? And given the falsifiable aspect of the method, there's no reason for me not to accept what the scientific community has concluded. Unless I choose to believe there's some vast worldwide conspiracy to deceive us that's gone on for the last 150 years. Do you?

Fossil evidence shows species evolving through the layers of rocks that have been preserved and mined. Also we CAN see one part of evolution even today. Any genetic studies confirming that all animals in existence are descended from a single breeding pair from Noah's ark? Why are the only accounts of any of the biblical events in the Bible? If they happened in real life why aren't there eye witness accounts written from people at the time for such fantastical events such as David slaying Goliath with a slingshot? That's a pretty badass thing to happen why are there not scores of written accounts from people who were there and saw it with their own eyes? Or even stories passed down through the generations from the granddad of grandpa's grandfather ? If we imagine that the Bible was written by men, with human creativity and not inspired by a god, how would it look differently? The answer is it would look exactly the same as it does now. Imagine that the Bible was actually inspired by the creator of the universe, it would be overwhelming in its clarity and perfection. That’s not what we have.
That would be nice, but being that human beings are the instrument of that inspiration, and human beings are extremely flAwed, that actually doesn’t seem like a very reasonable expectation.

When the claim is that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, I would expect there not to be hundreds of internal contradictions. Growing up in a Christian household and reading the Bible multiple times that was the first major red flag for me. Clarity and perfection are subjective but the perfect word of God should be consistent with itself at the bare minimum. Here is one of many: Ezekiel 18:20 "The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father..." Deuteronomy 5:9 "I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation..." Deuteronomy 24:16 "Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin. Exodus 34:7 "The Lord does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.” How does one conclude this is divine wisdom? The verses are polar opposites!

Clinical death is when a persons heart stops beating, however the brain is very active. Brain death is when all brain activity ceases. Nobody in all of history has come back from brain death. I believe the Bible is a fantastic creation to separate sheep from humans with functioning brains. A truly great gift to humanity.
It doesn't take a bible to do that.
Religion has been very usefull in the past mainly in uniting other people and probably other stuff as well (I am not that well informed so take what I say with a grain of salt).
And in modern day its very usefull for emotional comfort.

Raul if you're going to use an argument from authority you should consider that poll after poll reveals that more than 97% of scientists accept the theory of evolution, which increases to 99.85% among natural sciences (so excluding fields like engineering and computer science).
It is not based on faith. It is based on the scientific method, where claims need to be falsifiable, and predictions need to be repeatable. The fact that I as a layman accept evolution, is because I accept that the scientific method has been the most reliable source of discovering facts about nature...don't you? And given the falsifiable aspect of the method, there's no reason for me not to accept what the scientific community has concluded. Unless I choose to believe there's some vast worldwide conspiracy to deceive us that's gone on for the last 150 years. Do you?

Any genetic studies confirming that all animals in existence are descended from a single breeding pair from Noah's ark? Why are the only accounts of any of the biblical events in the Bible? If they happened in real life why aren't there eye witness accounts written from people at the time for such fantastical events such as David slaying Goliath with a slingshot? That's a pretty badass thing to happen why are there not scores of written accounts from people who were there and saw it with their own eyes? Or even stories passed down through the generations from the granddad of grandpa's grandfather ? If the Bible and by extension god is real then surely there must be some evidence outside of the Bible that supports the claims made in it, where is this evidence?

Even crucifixions of many people during the time that Jesus supposedly lived. I’m pretty sure they would’ve noted if somebody called themselves a king and they crucified him.
The best hypothesis I have when it comes to the existence of Jesus is thus. He was a failed apocalyptic preacher. One that made a name for himself with all of his talk about eternal life and salvation and damnation. And as stories get passed down through generations, they tend to be embellished. And why did the church have to have a meeting to include or not include certain books? Why are some of the books, and verses within them, seemingly copied from sources far older than them? You can’t use the Bible to prove God. It must be independently corroborated. All of it must be. Not just the parts you want.

If we imagine that the Bible was written by men, with human creativity and not inspired by a god, how would it look differently? The answer is it would look exactly the same as it does now.
Imagine that the Bible was actually inspired by the creator of the universe, it would be overwhelming in its clarity and perfection. That’s not what we have.
This is a very compelling argument, and so succinctly put.
That would be nice, but being that human beings are the instrument of that inspiration, and human beings are extremely flAwed, that actually doesn’t seem like a very reasonable expectation.

When the claim is that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, I would expect there not to be hundreds of internal contradictions. Growing up in a Christian household and reading the Bible multiple times that was the first major red flag for me. Clarity and perfection are subjective but the perfect word of God should be consistent with itself at the bare minimum. Here is one of many:
Ezekiel 18:20 "The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father..."
Deuteronomy 5:9 "I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation..."
Deuteronomy 24:16 "Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.
Exodus 34:7 "The Lord does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”
How does one conclude this is divine wisdom? The verses are polar opposites!
