Thanks for commenting on this video. Your 100 percent correct on length. It takes what it takes. I have learned alot from my hours at looking at these wiring diagrams. Most of all its boosted my confidence in electrical. I won't say I'm an expert, but I can almost say I at least know what I'm looking at. Thank you again personally for helping me get this far with the super beetle. I really think the only thing we were missing from starting the car up the day you came down here was the complete missing ignition switch wire harness. Tonights video is on turn signal harness. Volkswagenplanet I really wish we were closer.... I want to come down so bad but life got super busy, chaotic and insane at times. When I did have a little bit of down time I was too broke to do anything. I was hoping to already have the car done by now so you could zip around town with it. @@VWJawbreaker Don't ever feel that way. We had no idea the harness was missing. We got alot done in a short time limit. Its hard to believe its been 3 months I think since that weekend. Life has been crazy. Family is always first. This is a hobby for me. You gave me the push I needed to keep going and not give up. We can always make time to work on the cars anytime. Family and personal health is always first. We will meet up again. Thats just what the VW COMMUNITY does. It will never come down to a few bucks for expenses. I will be more than happy to pick up the tab. You drove a few hundred miles round trip and your time to help me out. We have nothing but time. I'm very grateful for the few hours of your time. We can chat later about that on the phone maybe next week some time.

John I will check but I think i removed all the wiring from a 1972 super beetle 8 or 9 years ago. I get a chance I will check in my storage unit and see if i still have it ; when I remove the wiring i just put it all in a big trash bag...Let you know in case you could used some of it. traded it with another vw for the 64 bus we named Sarge. They were going to cut up the 72 and make some kit car from it told to take what ever electrical items I wanted so I did.

Correct me if I'm wrong didn't you and your sons work on a either one owner or a low mileage beetle not so long ago? Its going to be great to get caught up on your videos. I love your channel. @@Volkswagenplanet Thanks for the ekind comments yes we get snow in Iowa, this past winter was a very long snowy one. Sarge is a 64 split walk-through will work on him after I finish my two 67's split windows. We have a 63 beetle with 50K miles, needs some work like all VW the more we dig into it the more rust and holes we find.
I bought the Bentley manual. My bug is a july 71..so there was changes in June and then again in August. Glad I got the book but obviously the previous owner had the wrong schematics...lol
The book is great. It's the exact diagram I used in the videos. Glad the videos helped out. I have a 72 super that you will see in the videos. Tip. Most issues are bad grounds. John, thank you. Excellent and thorough presentation. I have a 6th wire on my 1974 Super beetle in the P location, It is a brown wire and I'm guessing 16 gauge. I recently had a short that fried the brown wire and I cannot determine where it goes. I trace it to a group of wires that go up and over the steering column. . I had new harness made and all wires are properly hooked up as you presented with exception being the brown wire, Can you help please. Thanks
I watched the video and I know exactly what you are talking about. You need to watch the turn signal video. The brown wire your talking about is in there. This was an exception to the diagrams. I think I mention it in the turn signal switch. I guess I forgot to mention it on the ignition switch. Watch that video for the brown wire. If that is not clear let me know. Then we can go to the next step. We will get it.

@@wayned702 great question. First thank you for watching and reaching out for assistance. The Bentley service manual has this exact wire diagram. The manuals cover every year, make, and model for the years of covered. I use a wire brush, sand paper, and , electrical spray cleaner. The spray aerosol sprays for electrical is usually located around WD-40. Hope the answer helps. Feel free to reach out and ask further questions if needed. Take care, stay safe.
@@samuelslusher3768 the wire goes from the steering column to the fan motor in the ventilation box, that catches the water from the vents in the hood. There is a black box( fresh air box) mounted on right under the windshield in the middle of the spare tire area. Some fresh air boxes have fans to help circulate air. The wire your asking about powers the fan. Hope that helps. They came with both with and without the fans.

The key switch has 2 pieces. Electrical , that the mechanical slides into. The wires on the electrical part go to a few different locations. Not just one fuse. Which wire color do you need help with.
Actually I just need to see the key switch on the diagram and i can trace the wires to where they go. I'm having an issue with the alternator warning light in the speedometer. When i thrn the key to on, the green oil light lights up but the alternator light doesnt. When I turn the key off i get a faint flash of alternator light. Only for an instant.
@@danielkaylor8395 i never made a video on the switch itself. Try downloading the diagram online. Thats what i did. I know its not a clear answer to your question. You can find then for free. When you download the wire diagram, look right below the turn signal lever. The top wires go to the turn signal switch, the bottom wires are your ignition switch. Simple google search like free 1972 super beetle factory wire diagram.

I have a blue a brown wire that is on the ignition wiring harness where would that go to thanks if any help
