@@hellaradusername Yeah, she had a lot of creative talent. From her tweets, though, it seems she tried to force Double Exposure into her own narrow interpretation of the first game's endings which was probably not the best idea. She didn't deserve to be fired for it, but she should have been more open to different interpretations of that final choice, too. Might have avoided a lot of the blowback.
Tell you what, it was miles better than Double exposure anyway. Dear god. I actually didn't like true colors but I appreciate it a bit more now, I genuinely couldn't bring myself to finish the new one, too much identity politics and no focus on Max or Chloe.
I want it if they learn from DE and move back towards LiS if continuing w/ Max; if they go back to anthology then they need to stay away from DontNod core canon.
Between the detective literally being deleted from existence and the main plot being about a cancelled book deal, I truly just didn’t care. Alderman was a totally wasted character and could’ve made it better. And after the Safi reveal this game becomes a complete mess. I’m glad I watched someone play instead of buying.
As someone who has been a fan of niche franchises... they generally don't survive divisive entries. Niche franchises usually sell well enough to ensure sequels but never great numbers. Then comes that person that's unhappy with that and wants to shake things up and broaden appeal. That leads to the divisive entry that can sell just as well as previous entries but will burn a portion of the fanbase that won't come back for a sequel, leading to the huge risk that a sequel will sell worse. Most publishers usually cut and run at that point.
Its honestly better if they are done with max because they didnt write her dontnod did and decknine just doesnt understand max and chloe and the first game like dontnod did
@haya.a5887 i don't think thats 100 the case. Double Exposure would have been better, if they changed Max with a new Character. I would like to see another game with Max )and chloe, if you saved her) but this time they need to really respect the desicions the player made and dont write a character off the way they did with Chloe via SMS. Thats just lazy. It might be hard to give us a game, where both endings are respected in a "respectful" way, but if they are menage to do this, it would be a really great game.
I feel bad for the people let go, but Double Exposure is a very bad Life is Strange game. If there is another Max game, it will have a whole new creative direction and that’s not a bad thing. However, the AAA-hole revelations about Deck Nine/Square Enix and their managements really make me doubt anything they do at this point. 🤷♀️ #SaveTheRealMax
I feel for the people laid off, even as someone that was definitely NOT a fan of narrative choices made; like I was hoping for a shuffling and new people brought into the writers room. I really do hope that this is a sign that they're going to restructure things around the feedback given and if they can deliver a proper LiS styled sequel, which includes bucking back against any issues with having Chloe back (which I guess is an irony) to fix what DE screwed up. One way of doing it since the original people are likely gone now would be I guess maybe legit canonically making DE a branch-line of its own vs. the mainline Max whose w/ the green-haired Chloe. That way they could to some degree side-step some things (the ending + Chloe and Max's utterly garbage breakup), while maintaining others. Saying DE was all following an alt-Max that ends up bleeding over into mainline Max's branch w/ Safi's whole thing (which could also be refined using the transition as a sort of excuse). If they're going to seek to more align to playerbase, then I definitely want that sequel; unfortunately that piece of the puzzle won't be known till a new team is formed to give an impression of where their heads are at.
I thought at first this was just the normal cycle studios go through but Kuan's been a major figure there since Before the Storm. If they canned her this is huge.
No, Deck Nine is done with LIS. You don't lay off the entire writing team, most BEFORE the game was announced, without either the studio not being able to do it anymore, or SE pulling the plug on them. I bet SE London makes the next game.
Part of me wants to be petty and say, "relationships don't always work out, it's realistic", in reaction to them losing their jobs... but it doesn't feel right to celebrate that. I'm disappointed by how they wrote DE, but I wanted them to learn from it and grow, rather than be laid off like that. Especially since alleged ex-Deck9 employees have suggested that many of the game's problems are due to upper management + Square Enix.
It really sucks that it came to this. Before the storm felt like it fit in perfectly in the world of Life is strange. True Colours felt like made by fans, who are not that great at their job, but they had a lot of passion, love and hard work for their project. Like it was made for fans by fans Double Exposure completley disregard what made Life is strange a great game: great character arcs, hard choices with heavy consequences and it should be an emotional roller coaster. Life is strange died when powers took the helm from all of these things, just like Dragon age died when it ceased to be a great dark fantasy, or like Game of Thrones died when Dragons became the focues instead of men plotting in dark rooms and women scheming in beautiful gardens.
they need a proper sequel with a proper ending to lis1. i played when it came out and its clear that they basically rushed episode 5 and just made up a lame ending. and hey thats fine. it happens. but now all these years later, they can make a complete and satisfying ending for lis1 with a sequel that you go back and do it again or at least figure out how to keep her alive without ruining the town. they basically mass effect 3'd the ending to lis1 or maybe it was the other way around. its been a while. nothing worse than making a game where 'choices matter' then end the game with all your choices not mattering.
I had the first Lis at launch but never got around to playing it. Finished it recently so I don't have that attachment for Chloe like most people. I enjoyed DE for what it was. I just don't think these type of games will ever have great sales again. Hope Lost Records does good!

Imagine this in lis 1, at the end u either choose to save arcadia bay or sacrifice Chole, but after u made your choice instead of showing the consequences of your choice now, the game ended. Nothing happened and the game literally ended with a text stated "Max will return".
Well damn. The sad thing - apart from people losing their jobs, all the best to them - is that this isn't totally surprising. I really hope this points to 2 things: 1) That it isn't the end of LIS, because while I agree they'll probably still do a sequel, it doesn't seem like it's guaranteed. And 2) Assuming we get a sequel, I hope it means they will start listening to the fanbase and pivot away from the creative direction the franchise seemed to be going in. Here's a question, with how bad the general response to DE has been, do they try again with Max but ignore DE completely and say it never happened?
