practical sharpening is danish company selling the stones but they are made by poltava diamond tools in russia..amazing stones for sure..the best ive ever used..
Hi Michael, thanks for your videos. Would you review some of the Sigma Select II stones? Those are more like regular water stones, but according to the manufacturer suited for tough-to-grind metals. The general consensus seems to be that they work as advertised.
Michael Christy the reason they work well is because the abrasive is sic you can find cheaper sic stones from gritomatic they can sharpen maxamet like nothing you can pick up a set from them in edge pro format for I think 60 bucks
corismsyn for burr removal. Besides, strops don’t cut the same as a stone. People think they’re comparing apples to apples with the grit rating, but that’s wrong.
@@michaelchristy4982 thanks. I kinda thought so that that was the case. I was just surprised that even with a 1-2 micron stone you have to go back as high as 4 micron with strop.
Practical sharpening is not a manufacturer of stones.. They simply order stones (in this case from Poltava Diamond Tools) but have nothing to do with production!!!! Its company like gritomatic..
Why are you yelling at me with exclamation points? And what’s your point? They still paid for the R and D, and they’re still the one offering the stones.
@@michaelchristy4982 Im not yelling Michael🙏 Im just adding the information that i have to provide other viewers, thats all.. But it is correct , they order the plates and then re-sell.. They even ship them in the original packaging with Poltava logo... The exclamation marks wasnt meant that way but to point that its fact.. Why so offensive? Btw im not native english speaker so if i wrote it without exclamation marks would change what exactly? And i point that out cause noone else did, maybe others would like to know and thst comment wasnt really meant for you but just info on air!
Franco Rui yes. There’s a learning curve with these and maintaining the stones requires some responsibility, but these are a great product. I’m going to start mixing these into my sharpening routines. I think things will get interesting at that point.
Michael Christy thanks for your support and attention, I will see if I can get them , and mix them with the spyderco ultra fine stones , I am a big fan off your work , you are a professional top class
Frank Keller it was good. Probably as good as any resin bonded stones, although I was holding them by a metallic setting, which doesn’t help, but that’s how they’re offered.
Has Mr Christy gone to the dark side, CBN? Lol, just foolin. I personally never tried CBN before, looks like a treat to use as a sharpener by the looks of it👍. How's that Delica Sprint doin for you so far?
bp69 knowing Michael and Shawn, Michael has used or talked to Shawn about the cbn Stones. Maybe he used a prototype, but if Michael wanted one of the stones, Shawn would probably hit him up
I have these up to the 10/7 and love them. Been debating on the 5/3 and 2/1 but was wondering if you’ve used the EP matrix stones yet? I’ve heard they’re 2300 and 4000 may be a bit better for finishing than the cbn option.
I dont have cbn resin stones but i have venev orion series set and i have ED DM stones in 2300#&4000# and i can only warmly recomend venev set (They are half the price DM stones and 2the thickness of diamond layer) These are probably same or better idk but not worth the twice the cost cause Practical Sharpening is from Denmark and 1 resin cbn stone will cost you 80€=100$ cause of tax and shipping and it just makes no sense at all cause after venev 1200ocb you take 3micron and 1micron strop and the edge is absolute mirror.. This set shown here would cost you 400-500$ including shipping and tax vs venev 220+50ups shipping... Yes its great to have them for free but not buy them for the insane price

As always, thank you for a better understanding of these CNN stones. I will look into Practical Sharpening.
impeccable knowledge!
Excellent. Very informative as usual...
Jeffrey Weber thank you.
have you checked out the knife maker dulo? He makes fixed blades in k390.
Hi, since it's been 2 years, how would you say these cbn stones stack up against the Venev Diamond Stones, for sharpening good, hard super steels?
Hi Michael, thanks for your videos. Would you review some of the Sigma Select II stones? Those are more like regular water stones, but according to the manufacturer suited for tough-to-grind metals. The general consensus seems to be that they work as advertised.
TrixieDK I’m not even sure where to find them. Where are they available?
I know a good source here in Europe, but in North America it could be Lee Valley. bit.ly/2QYjioo

Michael Christy gritomatic sells sigma line.
I have the 400 CBN, and love it. Good stuff, and thanks for the video🕷🔪
Thanks for the video I've learned alot by them

Nice video as always, I love to try out new shit!

Trying to decide between these and gritomatic. Price wise these are much better, have you tried the gritomatic offerings?
TC J I’ve worked with Venev’s offerings, if that counts.
Michael Christy the price are great and if your digging em I’m sure I’ll be happy with em.
Hey it looks like on they’re higher grits now they have a 200% mix, I wonder if that has decreased the chance of high spots?
If the stone is already 1-2 micron why do you go back to 4 micron when stropping?

corismsyn I think it depends on how the 1-2 stone is being used.
Is there a reason you have been posting so frequently recently? I mean the gap between your older videos took quite a while.

So is this a real business? can't find a web site for them, just a facebook page.
Wtf just type in google practical sharpening and you come to their website🤦♂️
Based on the scratch pattern, what would you estimate the Spyderco UF to be in JIS grit?
Jason D. Stone probably around an 8K, given the right progression before hand. Just a guess.
So you do recommend this stones ? Regards

How was the sensory feedback on the CBN stones?
Frank Keller it was good. Probably as good as any resin bonded stones, although I was holding them by a metallic setting, which doesn’t help, but that’s how they’re offered.
@@michaelchristy4982 these are the stones mounted for the Edge Pro platform, i got the 3/5. They offer benchstones too, albeit pricier and bigger

A.S.O.K.A Edge If CBN is the dark side, redemption is upon me.
The Delica is good. I’ve had it for a while, but really haven’t used it enough yet.
Where is BBB’s cbn stone?
Hi Dude he sold out on those like instantly
bp69 knowing Michael and Shawn, Michael has used or talked to Shawn about the cbn Stones. Maybe he used a prototype, but if Michael wanted one of the stones, Shawn would probably hit him up
Hi Dude yeah probably I hope he gets those back soon or maybe the vitrified stones those seem interesting
How fast does the bonding wear down, and do they dish fast, I ordered some but in 200%concentration I wonder how they will differ from these
Kevin Fitzgerald I’m not sure. I didn’t notice any dishing issues, but I haven’t used them enough to say for sure.
@@michaelchristy4982 thanks
