I remember once shaking her hand backstage after a stunning performance of Rachmaninoff's 3rd. I marveled at how small her hands were. I commented, "How do these tiny hands do the magnificent things they do". She laughed a little, appreciatively, put her hand to her bosom and said, "Well, we do what we can with what've we've been given." And nobody does it better than Ilana Vered.
I studied with her and she is just absolutely amazing!!!! We played Schumann piano concerto until 2am tirelessly. I love these etudes. I think I will get the sheet music out to restart. Hopefully it will be better than last time I played it in high school.
Yes there is someone much more underrated and unknown in America. Dang Thai Son, Vietnamese pianst and first Asian to ever win 1st place in the Chopin Competition in 1980. I invite you to listen and watch his live performance of Rachmaninoff's Moment Musicals here on youtube. Be sure to watch the one uploaded in three parts, HD, by newtide1980. Hope you enjoy!
Those little machines we call "child prodigies" have names like Horowitz and Rubinstein and Hofmann--and virtually everyone else before the public, then and now. There are a few exceptions, but not many.
bers: Oh please. Spare me the condescension. You're absolutely wrong, for instance, when you say Hofmann played like a gifted child when he was young. Actually, when he was ten he played like a seasoned artist; the critics all said so; and the conductors and orchestras were enthralled. When you jump into an area you know only superficially--and when you jump in with nothing but cliches--you show your ignorance. Ditto when you call prodigies "little machines." Yuck.

Absolutely stunning. All around thanks.
That was pure joy. This is first rank pianism.

Salon music is it not! Full-blooded Etudes composed by a man who knew the piano as good as Chopin did. Fantastic music and what an amazing pianist.

DTS is not underrated at all, just not a household name in the US.
amazing performance for the no.13,i don't know why those etudes are neglected by the major pianists.
I can't tell if she's wearing shoulder pads or has very tense shoulders. Either way, lovely playing.
Maybe she has an incredibly short neck?
great artist, but little too nervous. Not easy to be in such event starting with two etudes
Her teacher criticized her for playing too beautifully. Lol

Toca bien una partición difícil. Pero si escogiera otras piezas, tocaría como Liberace!
