    Thank you so much for this video. A local guy wanted $168 to repair my 2 year old craftsman 24” snowblower. He wanted almost half the price of my snowblower when I bought it new. Your video is very thorough and helped me fix my own snowblower. I only removed the pin with a lot of holes and sprayed it hard with the carb cleaner. I also did as you taught to use a small wire and poked it through the tiny holes. And it worked. I’m so happy. You got a subscription from me. Keep up the good work.

    I have the same model, I just got done today removing the spark plug and cleaning it. I used the carb cleaner spray in the hole where the spark plug went. I put in the spark plug and waiting 25 minutes "directions said 15-20" min wait". I was able to get mine started both electric start and pull start, I let it run easily about 10 minutes until all the smoke stopped from the cleaner. Last year no matter the setting the Auger under any load would stop the blower, what would you recommend as next steps? New carb and spark plug?

    This snowblower is weird. I’ve had it years (was one of the first to own this engine) and suspect they built the carbs with the tolerances too tight. I always was able to get it started by draining the carb with the bottom nut even if you ran it out gas before storing. Eventually after several years of mixing marvel mystery oil with the gas it eventually would work at the beginning of the season at half choke for the first clearing before working normally.

  • @robertvalente8217

    99% of the no start conditions on these small engines are caused by the ethanol in the gas. If you can find ethanol free or aviation at a local airport youre best off. If running ethanol blend be sure to shut the gas off and let it die when youre done using it each time.

      Its possible the float pin is stuck open allowing the gas to continue to flow. That will allow gas tank to empty and in some cases back flow in to crankcase. Check your oil level. A new carb is cheap and will most likely solve that.

    • @JLafix
      @JLafix  3 года назад

      Sounds like the high speed jets are clogged. The bottom center of carb has a flat blade screw inside the tube that the bowl gets attached to . Remove that high speed jet pin. Spray up into tube to clear passage. and then clean the pin itself by holding a finger over one side and spray cleaner into other side, you should see spray pattern out of the 12 pin holes in the pin. You may need to poke out the tiny holes with a thin stiff wire if necessary. If that sounds like too much you can always slap a new carb on it for 20 bucks.

    when the winter season is over, what you need to do so the carburetor doesn't get gooshy again? I means so you dont have this problem again? Does the flue stabilizator can help?

    • @JLafix
      @JLafix  3 года назад

      I treat all my off season stuff the same way. 1st I do treat the fuel with stabilizer specifically designed for ethanol fuel. 2nd thing I do is Fogg the engine as well as the carburetor. Thats easier than it sounds, a can of fogging oil is available at any parts store . i.e. Napa. While Running the engine and at the same time spray the fogging oil into carb opening until it quits or sometimes it won't quit on its own so just spray for a good 15 sec. Then shut machine off. Close the fuel valve off if you have one. Then I remove the spark plug and spray directly into hole while rotating the engine for 15 seconds. This procedure keeps the carburetor and engine lubed and coated with a film of oil. When you start up next season it will smoke for a bit till it burns off . I found this method better than completely emptying the fuel from the tank and carburetor. Unfortunately that craftsman 26 carburetor is completely hidden so to spray the carb is going to be tricky but doable . You will have to take the plastic shroud off to access carb.

    • @JLafix
      @JLafix  3 года назад

      Yes most common kill switches are connect type so if the 2 wires are disconnected the thing should start up no problem . The whole idea of a kill switch or key switch or on off switch is to ground out the coil that's all it is . However there are other safety switches sometimes that involve the carburetor and other things like the auger lever so you just have to make sure that nothing is grounding out your coil. The easiest way to see if your coil is sparking is to ground your spark plug just go on RUclips or Google how to do that very simple and that would lead you to the direction you need

  • @BarryB382

    I thought snow blowers had a compression release valve and that it was hard to run a pressure check

    • @JLafix
      @JLafix  3 года назад

      If an engine has an acr incorporated or not the engine still has to produce air compression to make things go boom. The automatic compression release (acr) just raises the exhaust valve a smig before opening to help with starting, especially handy for pull start engines. It's like an OHV engine with the valves out of tolerance, if the rocker arms are too tight the valves would stay open for no compression and if they were too loose the valves wouldn't open in time creating too much compression. When I look for compression on a small engine I want to see anything between 30-90 psi.

      If the carburetor is gummed up usually nothing will clear it out. The high speed jet has several small pin holes that Normally have to be Physically cleaned and blown out with air. Spraying carb cleaner into the carb While it's on the unit Does nothing to clean out the gummed up jets or float pins, it just passes directly through the carb and into the intake And combustion chamber.

      951-0511 8 b carb should fit. Amazon $32. Before installing make sure to compare the two. So you can get your $ back if not the same

      Just some advice the model # of the snowblower will sometimes get you engine info. But if you use the model# of the engine you might have better luck finding engine parts. Briggs has the model number usually stamped in a metal tab sometimes near the top

    I ran mine empty I have the same one, and added fuel stabilizer....just to add don’t keep to much of that carb cleaner on the o-ring because it will eat it alive...so try to wipe some out, don’t let it sit meaning puddle near the float bowl..
