    The little triangle thing you got your wires going into on your roof supposed to be facing the other way towards the wind so that rain and water don't get in it you got it backwards

    You should send that inline fuse back and get a 200amp fuse breaker so it can be reset and not have to have multiple $30 fuses.

  • @stephen-collins

    The math is simple: P = I x V so I = P/V. That power bank is rated @ 2000W with a resting voltage of 13.6V so that's about 147Ah or 47% larger than a typical 100Ah LiFePo4.

    Those mounting boards are going to be under incredible force when underway and being towed. I would opt for something metal.

    Always tow your boat 55 mph or less. You save fuel, it’s safer, and you show up 15 minutes behind everyone else. Nice an easy towing a trailer, boat, RV.

    Trip you might want to reconsider towing with that panel mounted up top. Any angle of attack is going to produce lift which varies with the square of velocity. Bottom line, you're probably ok cruising around the gulf but it's going to get sketchy at highway speeds. Even if the mount holds, the panel itself may not be able to handle the stress.

    Hey trip just some info for you about your electrical components. I have an electrical engineering degree plus i live off grid on solar. So, the power bank you're using may be half the capacity but if the house battery you got is sealed lead or an AGM battery you cannot discharge them past 50% without harming the battery. Those power banks are usually lithium meaning they can be discharged to 0%. Something to consider before deciding If the powerbank is actually worse than the house battery. Also consider your charge controller. The powerbank may not allow all 200 watts the solar panel can produce. You can think of it this way; at peak sunlight hours the solar panel can replace around 15 amps back to your battery (with no power being consumed.) If you have an 100ah battery and you can only consume the 50% as to not damage the battery than it would take you just over 3 hours to get back to 100%. If your power bank let's say is 70 Amp hours but you can draw it down to 0% without damaging the battery then you have 240 more watts (20 amps) in your capacity. Feel free to comment with any questions concerning anything electrical. I'm more than happy to help.

      Thanks! They come sometimes. A lot of my trips are pushing the limits and I don't want to have to call them due to weather so sometimes it's not ideal for them at this stage.
      I do have a few videos with them and we go out ourselves without the camera so I can be focus on enjoying the time with them.

    Advantages of using separate components: 1) Locate each piece (battery, charge controller, inverter) in the most convenient spot 2) Replace/upgrade components as needed 3) Expand battery capacity easily.

    Kinda off subject but have you considered adding a rooftop ac unit? I just purchased a 22 Cruiser in Mobile and was considering it so I can add a softstart and run with my Honda generator.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  Год назад

      Yea I've thought about it, but not for long. I like less complex systems aboard if I can manage. A generator, fuel and AC would add quite a bit of complexity. I can get by pretty nicely with a simple fan or two when I need it and be very comfortable. So I'm choosing that route. If I had a 25'er things might be different.

    Looks great! On the battery compartment you will not want it packed to tight. Batteries need to breath. Also depending on the battery you get they will expand and contract. Just want to be mindful of those properties of batteries. Great job!
