- I arrive in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, and spend the first day walking its streets. I share some of my impressions of a city and country which have been through a lot of over the last few decades.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and RUclipsr who's been to 53 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017. So far, my trips have taken me to Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This trip marked the start of my efforts to make a RUclips full-time job.
After that European trip I went heavily into exploring Asia, visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan (seeing me cover a lot of Far East and Southeast Asia in particular).
I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and Palestine.
To date, I have not yet been to Australasia or South America. Though I am hoping to visit the latter sometime in 2022, along with a first stop in the Caribbean.
I've travelled to North America just once as a RUclipsr, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.
In 2022, I took my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting both Kenya and Tanzania, before making my way to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai on my way to Lebanon.

I have to say I love the Lebanese people , I worked in London for many years and my boss was Lebanese and what a wonderful person he was , used to take us out every Friday to his brothers restaurant for food and got to k ow all his family , truly great people

I am from Alexandria and I see how our streets are similar especially through our revolution back in 2011. And even when I saw how you all drive your cars the way we drive our cars at night without any lights to guide us. I started laughing. Our countries made through a lot. I am from the Maldives. I lived in Beirut from 1978 thru 1983 (getting myself a degree at the AUB). I was a teenager when I went there, and a very changed early-twenties person when I came back home. From a place that had also become home. Of course, Lebanon is wonderful for its nature, its history, etc. However, for me it is always the people that will remain the miracle that is Lebanon. Lebanon will live, and thrive, and prosper once again. I know. Because I know my Lebanese friends and their hearts and their great spirit and their willpower. Bless you Lebanon. Bless you my friends. I live in the USA, and I have also live in Peru, Colombia and Lebanon. Based on my experience nothing compares to Lebanon, the people of Lebanon are very hospitable, not mention the beauty of Lebanon. I am not Lebanese born but, I will always love Lebanon.
I had the opportunity to visit Beyrouth end of 2019, just before the pandemic and explosion... I really loved this city, Lebanon is such a gorgeous country 🙌🏼 thanks for bringing us there 😊

Wow! I was born and raised in the South Bronx during the Fort Apache/ Bronx is burning 70's. This is not unlike what I found myself surrounded by growing up.
Filming in the dark is a remarkable work. Electricity crisis is very hard one and affects daily routine badly. This country looks amazing. Imagine if there is no currency, electricity or other issues like that explosion tragedy, how would this country look like flourishing. You have nicely justified this video by giving relevant information. Awesome work.

really looking forward to this series. I visited Lebanon in January of 2021 but missed out on a lot because of a two week lockdown that happened. A fascinating country and Lebanese are wonderful people. Any place where you can be climbing ancient ruins on the border with Syria in the morning then eating at a Popeyes on the mediterranean by early evening deserves worldwide praise.
Fearless... You are absolutely fearless to walk in the complete dark in an unknown place!! It's so great to see someone be honest and sympathetic about a place at the same time!
I went twice to Lebanon and there is security there despite the crisis.
I've never been to Beirut. It must be very exciting to be there. I went to Syria just one year before that terrible war. I was lucky to visit that country before it went under the rubble. Being myself a Spanish man living in South Spain.. I'm very much at home when I'm in any Arab Country. Great Video (as usual 😜).Take care And keep on traveling
not all of syria is destroyed and under rubble, there are a few cities and places where the war never hit anything.

Lebanon is way prettier and have more civilized and educated people. I went to both countries, Lebanon was my favorite. I don't know if that has to do with me being a Catholic, since Lebanon is a Christian-president nation with
moderate muslims, with plenty of churches around me, I felt comfortable there more than in Syria.

Whatever the situation in lebanon was , lebanon is just out of this world. If you want modernity you can go to (beirut) , if you to party you can go to (beirut , jounieh , byblos , batroun) if you want beaches you can go to ( batroun ,byblos ,chekka) if you want a traditional old experiences and historical sites you can go to ( baalbeck ,tripoli ,saida) if you want nature you can go to ( harissa, jezzine, faraya , mount lebanon in general) and many many more , the beautiful thing in lebanon that its too small to have all these stuff happening in this tiny country. I say it loud , lebanon is the most beautiful country in the arab world. Cant wait to visit soon

I went on my first lebanon trip this last summer and went throughout the whole country where ancestors used to live before immigrating to Mexico

Hey Jason, near the port is the "Statue of the Emigrant." In Veracruz, Mexico, sits an identical one, the "Statue of the Immigrant." You will see it on the highway divider, with Lebanese and Mexican flags side by side. Enjoy Lebanon, it is one of my favorite nations. Go to Tripoli and Baalbek.

I'm Lebanese living abroad, every time I go to Lebanon to visit my family i try food outside, and every time i get food poisoning, the problem is to do with electricity cuts, sometimes those cuts can be for almost 22 hours a day.. this means food, specifically meat, in fridges and freezers become unhealthy to eat, but most restaurants usually dont get rid of them, they still serve them to customers. so be careful and try not to eat outside when you go

Great video. It breaks my heart to see the Place des Martyrs. It used to be the heart of the city before the war, the nerve center full of life and activity. Though it never was truly rebuilt after the war, it never looked this depressing. I truly hope Lebanon can get back to its feet.
How sad to see how Beirut is, the darkness every night and lack of power is unbelievable and must be a huge challenge for people. I'm in Syria & so sad that I cant even recommend you to come here. I live in latakia which is pretty safe & normal, but the problem is on the border. I imagine they would give you much trouble & be really suspicious once they find out you're britanian, just like what happened in Algeria. Good video, good walk, very eerie choice of music, but fitting.

Yes, those ritzy, downtown areas of Beirut can be too quiet. Zaituna Bay is amazing to walk and eat in the evening. If you go again, go to Borj Hammoud one evening. Just tell your taxi to drop and pick you up in front of Mano Shawarma. It's cheaper there, and people flock there in the evening.
Haven’t been to my home country and city in 3 years and it breaks my heart to see how it is now in this video because it used to be the most vibrant city and full of life.

Nice and informative travelogue... I worked for a year in Beirut and loved it. The meal you had at Le Cafe, Mulukhiyah (leaves of the Corchorus olitorius shrub) is one of the most popular dishes in Egypt, as well as in the Levant. It's a healthy meal; some consider it super food.
Lebanese food is also quite popular in Brazil, particularly São Paulo. Most Arab restaurants in the city serve a version of Lebanese food, and Lebanese dishes like kibbeh (ground beef and bulgur wheat) and sfiha (flat pies with beef or other toppings) are popular throughout the country. Your videos are always great, thank you for posting them!

We are always comical about everything 😅. I don't know which places you visited in Beirut, but there are much more gems to witness. The clear difference between social classes is obvious, but we all try to enjoy life as much as possible. The thing about lebanese food is that you will always see the variations in the same food between cities and villages here in Lebanon. And next time try out non-Lebanese food in beirut, you'll will find that it will still taste better than the original versions. And pleases try to visit during any of the 4 seasons. I promise you that each season has it's own vibe. Anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. And I hope that you will consider giving us another visit.

It is the political system that is complex in Lebanon. The country has been in trauma from the beginning. May Lebanese people achieve peace, liberal independence & prosperity. No doubt it is a stunning Mediterranean city.

Known as the Paris of the Middle East, Beirut exudes the same old city charm as the French capital. Well known for fine Lebanese food, it is a place where years of history have been showcased.
maybe it was the Paris of the Middle East back in the late 1960's but definately not for the last 40years... the Arabian Gulf countries like Dubai and Qatar are far more Paris these days

@@samtannouri3665 nobody can compare to different geographical regions that differ in weather and culture but share a language...
but if either place is being compared to cultural hub in another country( in this case paris) in a far off culturaly completely diverse place then Dubai has more similarity and on offer...that being said, the Lebanese really need to stop with the complex about trying to be connected to France and move on building their own individual identity...
Lebanon was never a colony if France( many wish they were!) and a large % of Lebanese do not speak french, and from those who do a % of them speak it so la...la??😒
