When I was a kid Unsolved Mysteries scared the crap out of me. My mom and dad never missed a episode either. That voice still creeps me out. I thought every killer was outside my house peeking in the windows lol. That music was haunting
There's a super spooky episode of the original Unsolved Mysteries show about a UFO in the Rendlesham forest of England at a U.S. Air Force base that was there. It's one of the earlier seasons. I wish I knew the name of the episode, it's on TV I'll have to find it. It shows the Air Force men staring at the red orb in the woods. That show was eerie! 😊 Some UFO stories I definitely believe, like that kid last year in Las Vegas, and the Congressional hearings last year. I believe it. I can't stand it when people fake a story and ruin it for others.
Good list. The Jersey shark attacks happened in 1916. There is a tv movie called 12 Days of Terror, based on the actual events. I’m from Cleveland like Wes Craven. So on spooky nights I would look out the window for the guy he saw in the fedora. The Hills Have Eyes is a good one based on true events. The Girl Next Door is loosely based on a true story. An American Crime is a better film based on the same story. And a more accurate portrayal.
The first time I watched The Conjuring my wife and kids went out of town with my in-laws and I stayed home by myself because I had to work. Well I was flipping through the channels and I saw this was coming on Showtime, or one of those types of channels. So I kicked back and watched this late at night alone at my house. When it was over, I went and turned all the lights on and left them on for the rest of the night. I've been a horror fan my entire life, and I'm not the least bit ashamed to say that that scared the crap out of me. I love The Conjuring series. All the spin-offs, everything.
As for my favorite, Psycho takes the cake. The mother son quarreling and the mentality of Norman, that's all Ed Gein. Gein's mom was a total crazy maker just like the mom's querulousness portrayal in Psycho. She bickered at him about women, like the mom's "voice" does a little bit in Psycho. I recently read Halloween was inspired by Psycho and the name Dr. Loomis came from Sam Loomis in Psycho. In H20 the actual woman from the famous Psycho shower scene, Janet Leigh, was named Norma in H20 (like Norman Bates). She was driving a replica car from Psycho and she's Jamie Lee's mom in real life. So Halloween and Psycho are intricately connected. 😊
Enter 5,000!!! Congrats on the milestone, man! This is a great list. The scariest or most disturbing true story made a movie is the story of Christine Chubbuck who was a new reporter for a local tv network that blew her brains out on live tv. The movie is called christine (2016) So what happened was Christine Chubbuck was filling in for another news reporter that day and snuck a handgun in her purse and just stopped in the middle of the broadcast and put the gun to her head and pulled the trigger. It was what her last words were that was so disturbing about the whole situation.
Wolf Creeks main character Mick Taylor was based on Australian serial killer Ivan Milat ... and wolf creek actually exists in Western Australia , which is a crater left from a meteorite many moons ago ☄
My favorites are the Conjuring Universe & Amityville Horror. I have watched many of interviews on these events. So many scenarios for the Dec 13, 1974 shootings. I agree about “nobody heard the marlin rifle?” That doesn’t make sense to me. One movie, not based on a true story, I watch around Halloween is Lost Souls with Wynonna Rider. It can really creep you out!!
@beccac5259 I haven't seen that one with Wynonna Rider - I need to check it out...and yeah, the rifle not waking anyone up makes no sense in an normal circumstances
I love all of those on your lists, especially I like fire in the sky too. Amityville 2 the possession, the birds which is based on event that happen with birds overtaking a coastal town.
The Serpent and the Rainbow script is also based off of true events and is pretty creepy and overlooked as well to me. The script was made by Richard Maxwell and Adam Rodman and is loosely based on the non-fiction book of the same name by ethnobotanist Wade Davis, wherein Davis recounted his experiences in Haiti investigating the story of Clairvius Narcisse, who was allegedly poisoned, buried alive, and revived with a herbal brew to turn them into zombies essentially.
