  • The Equity Exchange is a new, equity-focused virtual event series from the National Institute for Children's Health Quality (NICHQ). Hosted by NICHQ’s Department of Health Equity and Innovation, this series provides a unique space to exchange innovative ideas, learn and discuss emerging theories, and share resources and tools on topics related to equity in maternal and child health.
EPISODE 3 opens with a background about the weathering hypothesis, and how chronic exposure to social and economic disadvantage leads to an accelerated decline in physical health outcomes and could partially explain racial disparities in a wide array of health conditions. Additionally, we explore the impact of equity and ally fatigue and discuss strategies for maintaining engagement in equity initiatives.
FIRST GUEST: Kezia Ofosu Atta, the owner of ICAD CONSULTING LLC, an independent policy analysis, grant writing, and government affairs agency. Kezia has an extensive background in education and health policy and legislation - particularly in maternal and child health.
SECOND GUEST: Becky Russell, NICHQ’s Vice President of Applied Research and Evaluation. Becky is a long-time maternal and child health researcher with expertise in collecting, evaluating, and presenting data to drive change and help eliminate health disparities.
THIRD GUEST: Jacqueline Kellachan, a project director at NICHQ, who has worked extensively with state hospital teams to improve equity initiatives - including through enhanced data collection and reporting
Visit NICHQ's Equity Engagement Hub to access full resources from the event on July 25, 2024, and register for upcoming events.
