My wife and I went through the same experience with a 72 Westphalia. We spent a whole summer rebuilding every aspect of it. 18 years later we saw her drive away for the last time. And no the engine did not blow up even with a 140k trouble free miles. Super video! Love the color!
@@portersspeedshop2779 Yes, but 6v relies on more amps to get same result as 12v. They have larger wire size. Good grounds are important on 6v. Volts x amps = watts. My lights are bright, same as when new!! Cheers!
Great video. Nice wrap Up song. I was a teen ager in the 1990s when bugs were $500 beaters that my friends and I cobbled together as best we could. My brother purchased his 73 super for $300 in 1995. We rebuilt the engine and did a few repairs, sanded and bondoed the body. Maaco did a cheap paint job and that was his car through high school, college and after. I bought it from him in exceedingly poor shape and spend a lot of time and money resurrecting it but now it’s gorgeous and very enjoyable.
That's how you got to do it man! Luckily not saying what you did was bad, but we spent all the money up front so I don't think I'll have to restore it again later on. If that makes sense. Neat to hear about your vw escapades!
I can't begin to tell you how beautiful your car is. The color is perfect every thing about it is perfect. I wanted one since the 70ts but my dad did not want me driving one. Never did get one. Never give up. Good Luck!
1973 supers with factory sunroof is a rare bug. I just bought a restored one from CA. Identical as my first car in 1989. They can be set up to handle as well as some Porsche models.
Supers are excellent for Baja Bugs because you get to cut it up. Anybody who turns a pre-68 Bug that isn’t already a basket case into a Baja is a butcher and should face criminal charges. 😉
I personally don't think the yellow ones are that ugly, I got a model die cast super beetle when I was younger thats yellow, that colour is the first that comes to mind when I think of beetles. Nice work on your bug, looks sharp in orange!
Thanks! I agree that they look good in yellow. HOWEVER the yellow that was painted on mine was painted by what I assume was a blind man. It was so bad 😆 drive.google.com/file/d/1QiqFcAmIgyuguaUzWp7TTzGE5IOwVMGb/view?usp=drivesdk
I’ve never been able to get my head around how anybody could ever spend one single dime on a Volkswagen that was made after 1967. It’s just absolutely unfathomable to me.
Nice beetle, i have a 1963 ragtop i love these cars since i was a kid. Where can i get a steering wheel adapter for my car? I have a custom steering wheel, just like to get an adapter like that.
So I got an adapter for the factory 3 bolt pattern to a standard 6 on Amazon then you can use any nrg quick release. If you want to have less peices you can also just buy a whole new hub with the standard 6 bolt but it's more work. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07GQ7K9PT?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
They were some variation of these I don't remember it's been so long: www.jbugs.com/product/EIS-251.html?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAi6uvBhADEiwAWiyRdpE-EFn19P7yJYJoHTrFdxkEQDoJnDrEMLw6v6mrDg2_ztmc0lIZ5RoCaJkQAvD_BwE
That is a good question I don't remember the exact model. It was just something they had on the shelf at specially buggy supply! I'll see if there's a number on it and report back!

Lucky its definitely not my driving blowing it up I swear 😅! Appreciate the kind words.
Sweet ride I love my 72 super
Thanks man it's a good time!
Can't wait to drive my 73
Nice story and video. My first car at age 14 was a brand new 1967 VW Bug. Magical Car. Eventually learned how to do all the maintenance on it
Can't wait to get the engine back it's a super fun time.
You lucked out. 1967 was the last year Volkswagen actually made cars. Good ones any way.
Awesome film there fella, from a Brit owning 1973 super beetle (in orange). Yep love mine but have a lot to learn about it. Rick
That's neat man takes a little learning but it's definitely worth it!
Maintenance is critical on these but very easy to do. I owned 2, a 71 Beetle and 73 Super Beetle. Super Beetle is the best one.
I think my best engine drop time was 15 minutes! Piece of cake.
1st car in '75 was a '64. Bought another '64 in 2015 and restored it. All stock and 6 volt. Draws alot of attention!
Heck yeah! Leaving it 6v is a ballsy move I like it.

@@brianchisnell1548 Fair enough that's still pretty cool tho!
Great video. Nice wrap

Great little film, cool car, good music
Excellent narrative on what life is all about, love the VDub, too ❤

True the McPherson stuts are the best.
You must not be from Southern California, because down here we view Super Beatles as well, garbage. Pre-‘67 is the way.
@socaljarhead7670 Just a preference thing I think if your not going bags or a true dune buggy supers are good on the street and cheaper generally

@socaljarhead7670 glad I don't live in California lmao
I loved this so much. Thank you! 🤍✨🤍
I love your review!

In Australia the 1973 1303 Superbug was known as the Superbug "L" and the colour was called Dulon "Riverina Orange".
That's dope I just looked up the color kinda wanna paint a car with it lol
From 1970 to 1972 the most popular colour for beetles, superbugs and type 3's was Dulon "Honey Brown". (Amber)
Excellent 👍 Vincent

I have owned a 1971 Super Beetle for over 20 years. To date, I have spent over $60K on it. Today 100% EV and Tesla-powered. Whole lot of fun.
Mine was a 1966 vw fastback TL , it went out the window the day i got me a good woman n 2 lovely kids 😲 👏👏👏😂
Hopefully I can keep both 😅
