I was told that there was a solid gold Suryanarayan Murti in the mandir with a huge diamond on the forehead. When the sun rays hit the diamond it let out beams of light which lit up the entire garbhagriha and the mandir. That and all the treasures were stolen of course.

I remember my grand parents and great grand parents being so minimalistic, treasuring even a small piece of twine, repurposing most of the things, keeping the homes, surroundings, temples clean. I am old now but I have swept and cleaned temples when I was young. We the 'independent' and 'educated' people of 'modern' India are to blame for this trash and mess and I hang my head in shame.

17:35 it usually does not depend on our sect, but depends on the deity in the inner sanctum sanctorum... many of us Hindus too have forgotten that factor...
An old shloka gives us some reference:
Pradakkshina samo nasthi prathyaksha phaldho vidhi.
Ekam Ganadhipo kuryaath , dwe sooryam threeni sankare ,
    Chathwari kesave deve sapthaaswastho pradakshinam,
Padhou padanthara yasya karou chalana varjithou,
    Sthuthirvachi hrudhi dhyaanam chathurangam pradakshinam,
Naiva pradakshinam kuryath anthare deva sakthayo,
Deva peedanthare chaiva kuryad ithi sasanam.
    Which translates to:
Nothing yields better visible results than doing Pradakshina,
Do one for lord Ganesa, two for the sun God, three for Lord Shiva,
Four for lord Vishnu and seven for the peepal tree ,
And there are four rules for the Pradakshinam and they are,
After one step, the next step should be kept before the length of the previous step,
And there should not be any weaving or fiddling of hands,
The prayer lines should be chanted meditating on the god, in the heart,
You should not to Pradakshina in between the God and devotee worshipping the God,
And you should not do Pradakshina in between God and the Bali peetam...
An you have to do 9 rounds if you are doing pradakshina for the navagrahas (the nine celestial bodies)
Like in the start where you went from the left side of the sabha mantap, that should not be done. Yet, most Hindus have forgotten this as well...
Just a tidbit there for you...

Trash will pile p anywhere. I live in the wst and I do see trash in large cities there. The staff at these sites have to be sencitized to do a better job. When I visit India I do see this in the parks and tourist sites. Hope our brothers working there especially the supervisors at teh Archeogical survey Dept. take not and action.

Good excuse. Problem is post independence our education system lacks seriousness in educating our children about hygiene and basic civic sense. Unfortunately most of Indian parents equally responsible for not educating kids from childhood… l see this problem with parents of today’s age as well and has nothing to do with age and income parity.. look at any public theatre with expensive tickets which middle or upper middle afford.. people do have the habit to leave left overs under the seat or deliberately throw there

Basic sense of hygiene is seriously lacking amongst most Indians, including the supposedly educated. Travel by Air India and the luxury trains; the toilets are a mess within 30 minutes of departure!
It's great there are hired trash cleaners, but we, as the people, took pride in keeping our environment clean, and then the country would look a lot more beautiful 😊

Hey mate. Welcome to India. I am glad you gave a bit of earful to us about the trash. It is highly off putting and I do share your thoughts about disrespect to mother nature and disservice to mother Bharat. There are mountains of trash in India in waste management sites, which is also a huge challenge due to population. Most of the time you dont even see the bins. In NZ, a council once removed the bins from the park to encourage people to take their trash away and the same site happened there too. I dont feel it will be the topmost priority of the govt but I feel people are becoming aware of the environment. A youtuber recently showed the before and after of a beach which was filled with trash to the shore but the residents cleaned it up. People are going out of INdia more and learning the cleanliness culture to bring it back. But it will happen in a long time. But I thank to your effort and taking time for a genuine feedback and hopefully we learn from it. Guest is God. We should listen to your perspective there.

A lot has improved only with the efforts of educated youth of India but even after good trash management there will be people who litter which happens in other countries as well btw but usually drunk people and then there are paan munchers in India. And before you bought up that subject, I tought, if "this structure" and others like it was in an European country for example, you would have seen the efforts/care to preserve it. care it. And when you were holding the pillars, that should be a no, no. Once "these" are gone, its no more and like you said, the British and Indians try to restore it but could only do little with pieces of the building still not where it should have been.

loved your video, but you one of those rare Gora's who would go inside a beautiful temple to admire sculptures with sun glasses on, lol.
Bro go in without sun glasses, the architecturally controlled lighting inside Indian temples are to gift you with not just stunning visuals but it does something good to your mind (not brain), experience those, its priceless!

You are absolutely right about garbage...I was born and raised in India...lived here for 22 years and then lived in Tokyo almost 18 years.. again living in India presently. So, when I was little cities and towns used to be much cleaner in India, Tokyo was super duper clean and organized. Now after 18 years the cities and towns in India are dirtier and it bothers me a lot. I keep complaining about it but my friends and family members and neighbours etc. don't seem to understand the problem. They say I'm criticizing because I'm a foreign return and things will change eventually in India as well. I don't think it's going to change anytime soon because the politicians and the bureaucracy are not concerned about the garbage problem at all. I think people will definitely learn but the sarkari babus( government employees) are corrupt and don't want to solve the problem.
