Beautiful restoration Dave. I really like that you keep some of the patina allowing the saw to retain some of its earned vattle scars. Nicely done

I feel it’s good to keep some of those scars as long they don’t interfere with the use of the tool. Thank you for watching!

Nice seeing steel wool being a hero. I have a plywood tray with high sides. I sit on the couch with it on my lap and steel wool antique tools. Watch a movie and the tools come out nice.
All aspects of video production are A+. Video changes angles neigh for holding interest. Oration fantastic. Quality Audio.

Well done and very informative. I think a Veritas file holder is in my future. As is a pair of eyeball extenders. Now, where's my late mother's sewing supplies? There must be slippery needle in there somewhere.

Would love to see you remove and reinstall the back. This was a great video. I’ve slowly learned to sharpen saws. I n addition to the Veritas gauge, I bought the ToolsforWorkingWood vise. It makes as big a difference as the gauge did. I justified it because I had scrounged together over 20 saws, all in need of care and feeding. I can’t even find a service here in the PNW.

I have several other saws to restore and sharpen. I will definitely post a video showing how I remove the back…

Nice work and Great video even if I’m guilty of using vinegar from time to time

When I first started restoring and sharpening saws I too used vinegar only to quickly learn that a little elbow grease yields a better result.

Love the needle test! Will apply! I also have an old straight razor stone (Sharpol). It's just like yours with the square and maker (or seller) name. Do you ever reflatten it? What other uses do you have for it?

I have had that stone for 10 years and have never had to flatten it.

I have a Disston 10" backsaw and it needs to be sharpened. I can never sharpen high TPI crosscut saws though. The saw I have is 15 TPI. Anyone know a good sharpening service out there?

WHAAAAAT? No more Johnson's paste wax? I guess I've got to take some of the blame, since the can I've got I've used for about 5 years - the maker really can't depend on that kind of demand. But, I know my mission. Surely one of the flea markets I frequent will have a can somewhere. I figure one more can and I'll have a lifetime supply, at my age. Oh by the way, great video on back saws. I've never been consistently successful at that endeavor but I'll keep trying. Thanks!

Good video right up to the 15 min mark and then the wheels fell off when you stated that they have stopped making Johnson Paste Wax. My mind cannot fathom such a statement. How can this be? The Sears Wishbook, Hee Haw, and now Johnson Paste Wax have been discontinued. Humanity is doomed.

I didn’t find out until it was too late, but thanks to Pat Walls, I now have a brand new can, that will last for quite a while as my old can was running on empty. This hobby has the best people in it for sure!!!!!
