Those terms relate only to the arms and legs. Proximal means closer to the body and distal means further away from the body. So your foot is DISTAL to your knee where your elbow is PROXIMAL to your hand. Another example if your radial pulse is a DISTAL pulse. So if you had a person with an injury to their forearm but just below the elbow, I might say that their have a laceration on the PROXIMAL forearm. That indicates that it is closer to the elbow.

Pairs like superficial and deep are really similar to anterior and posterior respectively but have a slight difference when it comes to the relation of skin surface . You can get confused a bit cause they seem the same primarily when you use the standard view (anterior view)
