The Money Guy Show provides a decent answer. Dave Ramsey would have told them to sell the house and then go on an unhinged rant for an hour.

This is what happens when you don't begin with the end or any plan in mind. Ran out and bought a house only to sell the house to pay the student loan. Ironic isn't it? Like watching someone paint themselves into a corner.

They're working off the cuff with these questions and probably just didn't register the verbiage used here even though they repeated it, but she said "take home" pay right? I thought the money guy mantra was built off of gross (aka not take home) income? 34% take home is probably pretty close to the 25% gross guidance. Maybe I'm missing something?

Having no savings in your 30s is behind. Hate to say it, but it's true.

I assume loan forgiveness doesn’t apply? As selling their house will leave them still needing accommodation downsizing would probably make most sense that way they still hold an appreciating asset and have the opportunity to build back and move up the property ladder once they stabilise their finances. That is the one thing I can say I don't have. Of course the Big 3 credit agencies told me they can't give me a score because I have no student loan payments, BECAUSE I HAVE NO STUDENT LOANS!
