I’m 60 Joe never meet Billy, my cousin introduced me to his drumming when I was 11 in 71 been a fan ever since. Believe it or not I meet the woman I was going to marry of course I didn’t know at the time because she is 4 years older then myself 😂, she introduced me to so many jazz fusion bands in the summer of 76, that’s when I started making my moves on her even though she was dating some guy at the time. Anyway we she would take me to live jazz concerts and that’s when I saw Billy for first time live oh boy he was electrifying on those Drums. Yes we’re still married, still enjoying life with her after 5 children and 3 grandchildren. We plan on driving our almost restored 65 mustang coupe from Detroit to Southern California and driving the Pacific Coast line listing to Jazz to Washington state to some live jazz concert she has planned out for Us. Oh and know children or grandchildren this is going to be a wild time buddy, I plan on making that way lol, 289 Hi-Po 600 plus horses with a C-6 Trans and 3,500 stall converter which She has know idea I’ve had all this done to the drivetrain, wait until it starts up lol lmao. Rumbling Cam and Jazz fusion playing perfect combination for many road trips like this one👍🏾

I have this album and it’s Billy Cobham in his prime Power speed and taste He’s my favorite when it comes to fusion rock jazz what ever you wanna name it I lived his music growing up and still do The young generation lost out and should go back and learn Put the chops away and get schooled on raw power and finesse I can’t say enough about Billy

Billy, in his prime was a force of nature...Those of us that have respected his playing for decades, understand how great this album is. If you saw Billy back in those days live; you saw something you remember as clear as your first love...:)...His work with Mahavishnu Orchestra introduced me to fusion in 78... I was already a prog head but; then you start to explore Miles, and Chick, Stanley, Jaco, Victor etc etc etc...You find so many amazing new groups and profound blendings of all the great players of the time...It's a lifetime pursuit...Beats, Watching TV...:)

Been hearing this tenth pin since it came out as a little bean. Was bless to have this electric fusion jazz Latin rock funk stuff with Clark Corea Jaco Gadd Hancock and plenty more David cats like this drummer and lots lots more. Just because of me listening to these cats as a kid it stuck in their influence and at my church jam's a amaze my compadres on the percussion as I love to mix the drum set with all the Latin drums.
I thank these great fused guys. What a blessing.

I'm a percussionist and hear his rudimentary sequences. I hear flams, paradiddles, drags, and rolls. His timing going from the chop breaks back to the groove is outstanding. I had never heard of him until right now, but I am an instant fan. I knew about the great Buddy Rich but this right here though💥.

...the magnificent Mr. Cobham's technical wizardry can be partially attributed to his stay with the Jazz Knights -- the US Military Academy jazz band stationed at West Point. He was drafted around 21 years of age, and was there for 3 years. BC obviously read music, and he studied composition extensively. He is certainly one of the most underrated composers from the 70s; he was so powerful a drummer, he was easily overlooked as a disciple of musical theory. Check out his interviews -- incredibly intelligent, grounded, and humble.
      btw
Another drummer you may enjoy is Paco Sery -- whose work with the genius Zawinul is astounding in its grace blended with power. Very different from BC, but coming from a similar mind-place imho.
      Be well.

Yeah I've been listening to this genius since the album came out or a few years later. He has given so much strength on the drums. I'm just a vatos locos but I can never find any one to play this stuff with. They play Dragon force or punk or extreme beats, but nothing as complicated and hard as this. Thank God or I would retire, but love to play for Mass. God spear me. Phenomenal ese vatos locos forever is Billy.
Not now at one time probably the fastest all around including whom ever was back then. Love him, hope you get his stuff and show it to the world ese.

Billy's best stuff was done when he still had the beard and aviator shades - from 'Spectrum' (1973) to 'Smokin' (1983). The rest up to 2000 is nicely collected on a 2CD set called 'Many Years BC' - though it doesn't include anything from the great 1989 French 'Incoming' LP.
