Proper term is locomotive. One of Alco's best work, Union Pacific had the honor of running on of those many centuries ago. I hope BigBoy won't be scrapped anytime soon, instead continue to run in Wyoming.
I’m probaly the only one here that actually has seen Big Boy 4014 in real life… I saw 4014 at a railroad crossing in Wisconsin. You don’t know how loud it is until your up close to it…
#4014 is cool and all, but i wish someone would restore the N&W Y6A #2156, and imagine a pulling competition between the #4014 and #2156. That would be a spectacular sight.
They were originally gonna be named the Wasatches but then an unknown employee put big boy on number 4000 when it was being under construction and then the unknown employee use chalk giving it the name big boy
@@CowBoyRailfanning Did the Union Pacific build their own steam locomotives? I know Norfolk & Western did. So did Illinois Central. Matter of fact, were the Big Boys converted from steam to oil?
If my gf said this to me I'm break up with her

It’s not just an engine, it’s proof that steam should of never been retired
That’s a good point

The big boys are 80 years old bro not many centuries. Also UP had 25 of em not just one
@@cowerdnerddespacito9518 Auto correct said centuries instead of decades, and I know UP had more then just one of the BigBoy class.
One of the greatest mountain engines ever built
thats not a mountain lol
@@higherproductionstrainz last time I checked big boy was a mountain type engibe
Mountain Types are 4-8-2s. The Big Boy is a 4-8-8-4.
@@1309westernmaryland ok my bad, I’ll delete the comment, sorry to be wrong
It's a double northern type
THE OLD N LEGENDARY 1 BIG BOY
It’s not a train, It’s History!
Straight up facts
I wanna see Big Boy do a pulling contest with 2 diesels. SD40-2’s. I’m putting my bets on the Big Boy here.
As a girl who likes trains, I’m with the boys on this one
Makes sense join the train team 4014 TEAM BOIS
It's a legend from the past.
It’s proven that steam power is lost and forgotten but in the dark heart of railroading it’s still mighty powerful
I’m a female who LOVES steam locomotives/engines.
Wow awesome
I may not care for America or it’s diesels but the steam is great especially big boy I dream of seeing it someday
ALL HAIL THE BIG BOY
I love the funk song
The most overfoamed locomotive ever.
That is the best comment I have ever had LOL😂😂😂😂😂
It’s just not a ordinary train. It’s a machine that can move heaven and earth apart in front of you.

I saw it in Cambridge, MN.
ive seen one somewhere in Pennsylvania
I saw 4017 before.
Imagine a reunion
@@pilotbug6100imagine a reunion of all remaining big boys in America
It’s more than a legend, and also put the video at 1.25
hear the power and the rumble of the big boy
I like the fact my girlfriend listens to me talk about trains, yet zones out half way through… 5 sentences of train things.
As a four-cylinder simple articulated 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy" type built in 1941, i can confirm this is what i look like.
Not Just is a train is a King and leyend of the steam
If a girl says that a big boy is "just a train" then i'm sorry but they ARE NOT your true love
That’s your opinion dude idc what you say it’s just an edit

Big boy 4014
The thing that confuses me that UP call the big boy a she but in its name it’s called big *BOY*
They were originally gonna be named the Wasatches but then an unknown employee put big boy on number 4000 when it was being under construction and then the unknown employee use chalk giving it the name big boy
Hahhahhaha
My 4014 ain’t running with him
That's facts. But the 1218 of the N&W is better.
That’s your opinion
@@CowBoyRailfanning Did the Union Pacific build their own steam locomotives? I know Norfolk & Western did. So did Illinois Central. Matter of fact, were the Big Boys converted from steam to oil?
@@RedReaper303 the big boy has 7 000 horsepower remember that it’s a benefit the 1218 doesn’t have that much horsepower considering it’s size
@@CowBoyRailfanning I gotta be honest. The Big Boy has been growing on me recently.
Yeah even though I still love 4014 we need 1218 back in the rails

It’s called a Locomotive. But you can call it that to if you want
It’s not a legend.
