Lyrics:
"2005"
Slow down
Life’s too fast these days
Remember when we’d say
I’ll spill my heart for you
We sang it so loud
From growing up on Page
To California haze
We slept until the sun went down again
When I had your back
And you had mine
Life’s complicated
Can we turn back time
Standing on the rooftop screaming
Swinging from the basement ceiling
And when I reminisce sometimes
It feels just like 2005
Running from the cops on the freeway
We don’t give a fuck cause we won’t change
I think about it all the time
It feels just like 2005
I can remember that one December
Where we broke down in the cold
We made it a long night
Drinking till daylight
A million miles from home
Throwing bottles at exit signs
No consequences just endless time
Standing on the rooftop screaming
Swinging from the basement ceiling
And when I reminisce sometimes
It feels just like 2005
Running from the cops on the freeway
We don’t give a fuck cause we won’t change
I think about it all the time
It feels just like 2005
Gone are the days yeah
From teenage wasteland
To marquee lights
Made memories that
Will never die

I’ll never forget the summer of 2005, fun times when I was 16
bro you have kids now ? i am 18 now ahaha🥲
Hey same age here Nextraker Its seams like 2005 was the last best year. Savikos Έλληνας;
I was 20, great times!
Got married that Summer 😂
I was 24 going on 25
This part,
"Slow down
Life’s too fast these days
Remember when we’d say
I’ll spill my heart for you"
I FEEL IT TO MY BONES😭
2005 was 18 years ago and that felt long af, and now that time is going by fast as we get older, I’m 25 gonna go 43 in a flash 18 years from now 🥲
Phil literally being erased from the collective memory.. wish you would give to your fans a chance to understand what really happened :/
When the lyrics reached “I will spill my heart for you,” my brain instantly recalled “until the day I die,” and got the message right on. Thank you so much for all SOTY music.
-Remember when we say "I'll spill my heart for you"? -
oh man, that hits hard. What a beautiful band. After "The Constant" I thought you guys will never make more songs.. Hearing "Wolves" was a big hug to my heart, and now this upcoming album's making me genuinely happy.
Thank you! Thank you so much for your music!
First time learning about this band from RUclips recommendations... I was born in 2005, and how do I wish I grew up in the 2000's! Though I bet looking back I'll be thinking how good the 2020's were in comparison to the 2040's...
@@scenegirlilonka lol i was born in 2001 but i couldn't enjoy the 2000's era :(.
You and I were just childs. In 2005 i was just 4 years old so... How can i enjoy that lol. Probably if we grew up in the 90's :( but yea, amazin era
@@scenegirlilonka if you want more songs like this by this band try listening to "Sleep", "Terrified", "Sidewalks" or the whole "10 years and counting" album lol.
@@scenegirlilonka Yea I was 22. I also live right by to St.louis. this a bad ass band.
@@davidll4334 Wow, thanks so much for the recommendations! Gonna put that on my Spotify queue rn!
That “From growing up on Page” seriously hits right in the nostalgic feels 😌
I think about these guys everytime I pass Page Avenue.
This song has a lot of soul into it. This is what music these days have been missing!
I loved you guys since the early 2000... IDK what happened with Phil.. but im still wishing to this day that you guys can work that out and i can see the 5 of you once again on a stage. LIKE 2005!
NOT LOSING HOPE!
He’s full time with goldfinger, but I also hope they can work it out!
Would have been perfect with Philip in the band especially for this song
As far as I know, they said they split on good terms. So why he didn’t cameo with this song? not sure
@@ace-x6m Philip says otherwise. He doesn't understand what happened.
I think it involved Philip and his wife’s divorce. She alleged he took a photo without her consent and had a recording where he told her about it and threatened blackmail.
Anybody else get a little misty? I turned 18 in 2005 and this song gave me all the feels. 💜
I definitely got misty eyed! While I wasn't part of THESE memories, it was so nostalgic because this is just how it was back then. I wish that we could go back one more time...I'd be less afraid to make a fool of myself for the sake of looking "cool" in front of my peers.
I turned 20.
I turned 10 in 2005 lmao
I absolutely got teary eyed (check out 17 by Cartel for another tear jerker)
I was born in 2005 and I'll be 19 soon
What a beautiful song! I miss Phil so much, really wish they could work things out and get the boys together again😢
Sadly that looks very unlikely. Ever since they kicked him out they've done everything to basically re write any history associated with him. Like all the videos he was originally in have been heavily edited to avoid showing him. This video in particular you have to pause at the very right moments to catch a slight glimpse of him.
I still listen to their songs and have most of their albums but I haven't bothered much with this one. Phil not being with them anymore being one reason but I could have overlooked that if it weren't for the fact the majority of the songs aren't very long. I don't know.. I guess I just feel they aren't as bothered as what they were at one time.
You do know why the kicked Phil out don’t you? And why Ryan left greekfire cause of Phil’s own actions and agenda. They kicked Phil out cause he tried destroying them and their families
@@dannysorden8310 I'm aware of some it. Phil had his reasons and I don't think he intended on bringing others down that weren't involved. The way I see it... we all make regrettable decisions in life. What's important is we live and learn.
The best single so far. I left home a few months back for post graduation and as a 24 year old guy I did shed a tear or two listening to this song knowing the life I knew at home is long gone.
Now the only way you have left, to feel whole, is standing in the rain on the lawn in the night, yelling - a wail and a scream - "babushka!" as you wait for the liquor stord to open again, for the day
I can confirm, every time I visit where I grew up I'm constantly reminded of the changes
Just drove past where I grew up back in 2005 a week ago, those simpler times are long gone
In 2005 I was only 7 living carefree, playing pretend in elementary, and the last time I was fully an overly extrovert…
Now 25, I’m a selectively introvert in the middle of a quarter-life crisis 😊
Same!
I was born in 1996, but I will tell you guys something..
I have been feel all of days since 2016 till now that the 2000's was the best years on this earth.
A begin of everything that felt new and full of life to become boring and only "a thing".
The evolution of TV shows started in these years (Dexter, Fringe, Six Feet Under, The Shield.. etc)
The end of the real vibe of rock (Feeder, Story of the year.. etc)
Online games at the greatest (Call Of duty: Modern Warfare 2)
And I shouldn't talk about how Movies used to be.. Just flawless.. completely flawless.
I think I will miss 2000's forever..
I'm 35 years old now,and listening this song made me missed everything, everyone, and every moment in 2005(when i was 18th with emo hair lol).
Keep making music,guys..
Haha. Ok!
I'm even born 2005 and now I'm 18 :/
wow full circle moment haha:) I was born in 2005 and just turned 18 back in December
My boyfriend of almost 18 years and i started dating on June 26th, 2005. One of the first bands he introduced me to when we were first dating were you guys. We used to sing all your songs (especially songs from "Page" at the TOP OF OUR LUNGS in his car and we'd literally just keep driving around so we could listen to your albums in his car stereo when streaming music or RUclips wasnt even a thing and we both still had our bulky CD players that we carried around in our hoodie pockets! Thank you guys for all the memories and being a soundtrack to our relationship! I hope i can afford to surprise my boyfriend, Jimmy with 2 tix to the tour you guys are going on with Yellowcard!
Sweet suck that tour not in st.louis
Let's go dear ❤️
Amazing story! I hope you can both go to one of their upcoming concerts and relive some of the memories you shared almost 20 years ago.
@@Lbcyoung There doing a show March 11 in St.Louis and im going
Man I was just thinking back to 2005, randomly typed into google “take me back to 2005.” This popped up! One of my favorite bands! I was 21 back then. 2000-2005 was so nostalgic for me. 39 years old now. Feel old yet?
Ouvir Story Of The Year remete a uma fase tão boa da minha vida, época de escola, preocupações tão irrelevantes!
Uma das melhores bandas de post hardcore da época!
Page Avenue e The Black Swan marcaram minha vida!!
São lembranças que nunca se apagarão.
Kolego mam tak samo jak Ty... od razu wracają same dobre wspomnienia...
What a blast from the past. The lyrics are dead on! Life moving to fast and missing the good old days at shows and skating and the beach with friends. Well done guys. Definitely stirred some emotions in there. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 man when music actually meant something.
Miss Phil so much... This video is awesome, but it reminds me how the "5 against the world" was the perfect band!
SAME HERE! =(
Pre-Obama days were such a better time in America. I hate this woke shit!
Totally agree
@@Heyfanny That's why I like these older bands is because they remind me of a better America. It's still an amazing place and I love it but we need to destroy this Marxist woke shit before it destroys us.
They severely lacking without his vocals and guitar probably
2000е это прям расцвет цивилизации был,золотое время
Man i wish it was 2005. Great times. I really like this new album.
Fun Fact: Page Avenue from 2003 was followed by Tear Me To Pieces in 2023 from The Story Of The Year that moves forward into the nearest future that I could remember back when the same sort of thing that I’m trying to do for me now? 🙂
Yep 2005 good old times for sure 😢😢
This hits home hard. This was my best life! I was 19 yo
Damn this video and song hits me right in the feels. I turned 21 in 2005, so many great memories and albums, Warped Tour, house parties, friends that you thought you would have for life, even though I was a young man I could still act like a kid with little worries. Things have changed so much, lost so many family and friends, shits so hard sometimes. I'm glad we still have the music and some bands keeping us going
Uh yeah. 2005. The year I went to a local music store and searched for a CD by the band "Page Avenue"... had in mind the Album should be called "Story of the year" or something like this 🤣🤣🤣🤣(It took me quite a while to figure out the error of my quest)
спасибо, что вернули 2005 ❤
песня и впрямь звучит так, как будто из 2005!
2005 - what a year, and now what a song. Stay awesome you guys, I'm so glad you're still around making music.
I remember riding to school on the bus in the early 2000’s with page avenue blasting through the headphones of my CD player (I still have that same CD to this day, it has been in my life for about 20 years) you guys got me through my teens and are still getting me through my adult years as I approach 30. Will forever be a fan. All I hope is that you start to sound more like your older albums lol
Still wish I knew what happened with Phil… having him back is the only real way to feel like 2005…
Message me on Facebook. I'll tell you what happened, but it feels wrong to post it publicly here.
@@nathanwesche there’s a bunch of Nathan wesche over there. Not sure which is you.
@@Mattss90 I've got some blue streaks painted on my face.
Great stuff! For me, its just missing one key person from that era #Moon
I wish Philip Sneed would be in this beautiful video
Me too
Bring back phil :(
Great video, awesome song. Feels weird seeing how much effort went into making sure PS wasn't in any of this.
That was unbelievably beautiful. Can't wait for the new album.
Let's go back to 2005. So many great bands like SOTY. Life is a litle bit simpler. This generation sucks.
I remember back in 2005 when I was 14 and couldn't sleep, seeing "We don't Care Any More" on MTV2 late at night...
2005 I was five when my brothers introduced me to great rock bands.
Listening to this amazing band for almost 20 years, thanks to godlike NFS Underground soundtrack.💪
oh yes, one of nowadays less things to say thanks to EA 😁
What a great song! Funny SOTY story from 2005. We saw them with Saosin and Anberlin in Columbus OH. We were on the right side and a little ways back from the stage, right around where it started to get tightly packed. The girls we were with wanted to crowd surf. One guy we were with got on his hands and knees and had the girls run and jump on his back and he’d pitch himself up to give them a boost. Soon a bunch of people started lining up to jump off his back. He went progressively harder and people were going pretty far until one girl cleared the crowd completely and landed behind the barricade. She was fine and walked away from it. Phil saw it and asked if she was okay mid song, and he and Dan talked about it after the song. I bet they still remember that too.
2005, 14th October I was introduced to this world ❤️
I was born in 2005
God damn ive heard this song a thousand times on the spotify, this is the first time i actually saw this video, and its SO FUCKING EMOTIONAL.
I was 16 when i found u guys, definitely shaped my taste as a musician and also, my lifestyle...and when i saw Phill and Ryan liking my post on IG few years ago, i fucking snapped! :D
Love you guys!
I was 10 in 2005 but I knew the vibe was different.
Much different
My good child hood friend passed away a few years back,we both loved you guys since back then this song definitely hits the feels. 2005 was better times for sure but glad you guys are still making great music all these years later.
Just got my tickets to see Story of the Year on June 23rd 2024 in Franklin Wisconsin! It’s gonna be bad ass! I just discovered this song! I hope they play it! I want them to play this one and Real Life! Both are bangers!
Great song!😁 It must have been hard for whoever edited the video not to show Moon too much. Always sad that they don't play together anymore.
Ryan edited the video..
2005 was emo invasion the world so thats the greatest years for me 🖤🖤🖤
All lof You here have good taste in music
2005: When SOTY didn't need autotune
The era before social media consumption

This song touch my ♥️. Thanks
Now me 34
да... было время...))) c 2003 с Вами, с саундтрека с NFS "Undeground" )))
Man this hits hard, both the song and the video. I'm so thankful so have grown up with you guys' music and and stoked that the SOTY train is still triumphantly chugging ahead
Love you guys forever! You introduce me to the music world and I will never forget that.
Send love to y'all ❤🩹
I hope phil back 🤘
Other songs to check out if you're feeling nostalgic to go along with this one:
1. As It Is- I Miss 2003
2. SageFNTM- 2005 (an updated, more punk rock version of Bowling For Soup's 1985.)
I originally found you boys when nostalgically re-reading the LiveJournal of an old high school flame last year. In a post from, you guessed it, 2005.
"Mood: Depressed.
Listening To: Anthem of our Dying Day by Story of the Year"
These days it's pretty funny to see a 35 year old man sitting at his corporate finance job rocking out to the early 00's hits. I may have traded the Vans for horse bit loafers and the Invader Zim wristband for a mechanical watch but inside it will always be 2005. 🤘
I need to make more memories
2005 was my first Warped Tour - and the year I saw you guys as surprise guests replacing The Bled at the Camden/Philly stop. Getting to unexpectedly sing/scream along to "Until the Day I Die" has always been a cool memory for me - one I've even written about. Still one of the best days of my life. Can't wait to see you guys July 11 in Philly with Yellowcard, looking up at the same night sky and spilling our hearts for you guys once again!
Wayyyyy better than blink 182 recent song. This takes me back. Thankyou for putting me in a time machine
Been a fan of SOTY for over a decade now, Listening to this Masterpiece warps me back in time when I and Wife were so obsessed with the band and blasting Page Avenue whenever we listen to it and she had a massive crush with Dan ‘coz not only with his good looks but in his talent and precision in each performance. Then a year ago I lost my Half.., Cancer took her away from me.. And it feels like I had a huge crater inside of me and left me dull and dead. I missed the past.. So much magic and good times were now just a memory and this song reminds me of those magical times in my life.. I’m still trying to keep my composure and trying to be sane and barely keeping all of my shit together. It’s beyond words how much struggle and pain I’m going through everyday. Alone and I’ve lost direction, carrying everything all by myself. I burst in tears after listening to this song. If only I could trade for one more magical moment with my Wife.., I would.
Thank You for this Epic Anthem that reminds us the Good ‘Ol Times.🙏🏻
I feel like the whole "standing on the roof tops screaming" shouldn't be the main chorus... and I love SOTY. but damn Ian Watkins is still getting "Shoout oouts" even though he's getting his ass beatin' "Haard oout"! Anyway, love you, SOTY, but damn...Bring Phil back, no one else back flips.... and Ian was still...wait... my bay bad...
16 years of listening to SOTY (it all started about January 2007 with Until the Day I die), what an emotional ride from day one. So extremly excited for the new album, so many beautiful songs to be pumped of. Thank you guys for this incredible journey so far. It is a honor to be a fan for all these beautiful years!
I remember January 1, 2007. It was an odd 70 degree day where I was living and I decided to take a walk down the dirt road next to our house with my CD player. I had Page Avenue in there blasting. You might have been discovering them during that very moment
My childhood best rock band ❤️❤️
Word
Eyes got a bit blurry! Turned 18 on Halloween 2005. We had such a wonderful world. We just didn't know it.
Amazing! Every song so far has been a hit! Can’t wait for the album.
Idk why but right when the intro starts I just wanna sing “where are youuuu” hahaha
I'm glad I was born in the 90s I grew up with this band
what a band.
I love this song but I have a hard time listening to it
It reminds that I'm almost 40😭
And that song 1985 by bowling for soup. That didn't seem so bad because I was only 19 when that came out .
This is MY 1985😂
This. This was needed. Excellent song men. It brought back so many memories of watching you guys over the years.
Awful. Talk about phoning it in... Every song has been pretty disappointing and by the numbers.
Wolves was such a great return to form, and they follow it up with watered down Story of the Year. The ironic part is they sounded better than this in 2005.
Now we're under the covers
Fast forward to eighteen
We are more than lovers
Yeah, we are all we need
When we're holding each other
I'm taken back to 2005 (ooh)
Yeah
👋 Been listening since I was in high school... I stayed up super super late playing my black Swan cd and MOH on my psp:) I will never forget ❤❤❤ BTW I'm 31 now haha
THIS SONG HAS SOUUUL!! ❤ SUPER
This band is my childhood 🇬🇪✊❤️
I wish the other guitarist would come back 😢
Standing on the rooftops
Everybody scream your heart out...
Damn... That's when they became MY band
0:20 That flying kick tho
shit this makes me feel old lol, I remember seeing the video for Until The Day I Die on Mtv when I was in 7th grade and went to FYE and got that album along with 12 Stones and Evanescence and LP Meteora. Oh how the times have changed since those simpler days.

This really takes me back. For anyone else that also hasn’t heard “I Miss 2003”by As It Is.. give it a listen you won’t regret it. Pairs perfectly with this song.
They don't pair at all. "I Miss 2003" is mostly an impersonal narrative based on references to the most classic 2000s songs. This song, on the other hand, is a first-person narrative of real memories and things that they lived.
@@LbcyoungI disagree. I think it paired perfectly. Both pull up different parts of the nostalgia of the early 2000s, one aspect was the day to day life, the other was music, and who the heck doesn't remember the music being a part of the day to day life? That was a major part of what made the 2000s the best!
Another great song to check out is 2005 by Sagefntm (weird name, it's a play on Sage Phantom). But it's a killer new version of 1985 by Bowling For Soup and more punk rock!
@@Crystal11Skulls That's a fair point.
what a beautiful song. Love this band, they´re all making good music. I´ve been waiting a song like this since The Constant came out. Truly nostalgic! thanks SOTY!
God damn, goosebumps guys. That was fantastic, probably my favourite new release.
