You're wife killed it with the paint job - I can't believe this was her first statue painted. My girlfriend happened to be watching with me on your wife's paint reveal video and she even commented that your wife did a fantastic job. She has potential to be a high end painter for statues if she keeps it up. Absolutely great work.
Seeing the “thing” your wife painted next to another one shows how good of job she did.
I thought the same , the difference of level between the both paint app is huge.

I couldn't pick one over the other. But the sentimental value of being the first statue your wife painted makes that one the winner.

I agree with your decision on which Thing I would go with! Little details like the Doom clothing goes a long way! And this statue does it justice.

I really like the one your wife painted. Seeing these next to each other makes me wish the rock base was darker like the city street base.

Mrs X really knocked that paint job out of the park. If I sold my huge thing my wife would not be happy. The one on the right (your left) has to be winner!
Hats off to Mrs X. Generally the one she painted is by far better. Get sharp and clean application. But I also like that sculpt as well. The sculpt of the pants is what sets it off. But whoever buys the other has a great piece on the way. Both are lovely.
I like the pose and sculpt of the one on your left and I like the paint of the one on your right. Overall, I like the one on your left because of the his pose and modernization.

For me, it’s the one with cigar and shorts, but if I were you I’d also pick the one the wife painted, that’s the smart move

Tough call, both pretty good, thinkin the one in shorts cause that’s kind of how I remember him. One of my first purchases was Thing vs Hulk bookends.

I would say it’s a tie on both of them (both are amazing) but the paint definitely goes to Mrs. X. She did an awesome job.
The Thing Mrs X painted is a far superior piece, not only is It a better statue but you'd be in all sorts of trouble if you got rid of It after all of the effort she put into painting It, add in the sentimental value and It's a no brainer! Cheers, 8-)
I agree with most of the posts. Both Things are great and outstanding in their own ways. I would display them both, but if I had to choose one I would keep the newest Thing. I appreciate the more modern look.
I like the one your wife painted. I don’t care for the shiny rock on the other ones paint job. And I like the modern portraits better as well
Both of those pieces are awesome. They are both unique enough that they feel very different and not just a few minor tweaks.
Both are great! If I were to choose I'd peek the one in the most modern pose
Both look great, but the one for me would be the Ultimate Thing (the one your wife painted). I also prefer her paints, although the rocks could use a few more highlights.
Mrs. X did an Amazing job on that piece. It'll be interesting to see how much better she becomes as she does it more often (Painting! I mean Painting!) - I like the modernized better

I like the Thing statue on your left because of his cool pose defeating Dr. Doom while Thing holds Doom's cloak and his crushed mask.
Would be nice if the Thing statue on your left had the textured look and the classic comic accurate number 4 belt on it along with the big cigar and an extra classic comic head portrait would be ideal to have also seen next to the Thing statue on your right, which i think the Thing on your left would've looked perfect.
On the paint job, i like how it's a bit dark on the Thing statue on your right more because of how rich it looks with a bit of a shine to it, almost as if it were to look like honey grahams.
But not to take away the paint job on the Thing statue on your left which does look clean and professional it still looks great.
Overall the concept of the Thing statue on your left is the best looking one because of his cool pose with the Thing holding both Doom's, cloak and crushed mask with the rocky base. With that being said my vote still stands with the Thing statue on your left regardless of how the paint went it's still looks great. Mrs. X, did well on the paint job overall, which is still cool.

For me the clear winner is the one on the right that Mrs. X painted!!!
Both very cool Thing statues. But I would choose the one with the boots for several reasons. I prefer the portraits and pose. And prefer the smoother rock surface and matte paint of that piece. Objective opinion: Mrs.X' paint work is better than the other. GOD Bless You Guys as always!
I prefer the modernized version better and Mrs. X definitely did the best paint job!!
I think both statues are really great :) The one with the shorts does have a really cool base but I think that is the only category it wins in. For me the more modern statue is just way better. I think it captures the personality of the character better and the paint job by Mrs. X is just fantastic :) I love his shoes and pants and the sculpt/paint job really makes him stand out.
First off, Mrs X did a fantastic job. Can't wait to see other statues she paints. And it's no contest, you gotta keep the one your wife painted...
Mrs. X definitely wins the paint part. Her color choices are more realistic with the things body, and his clothes have a more comic feel to the color. All excellent choices on her part.
If that one goes for sale, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Been awhile since we've had a good Xtrumble! I have to agree with most of the points you made in each category (including paint, going to give that to Mrs. X ;) haha).
I like The Thing to your left. The paint pose and with the Dr.Doom items... the only thing with that statue is the pants ( the fact it looks like if he's not rocks under that) and the base..

The pants/boots look amazing.

New one clear winner for me. The rocks, while not flashy, were what the source material was (comic cover)

Both are great statute I really like them both but me personally I would keep the one my wife painted because if you're wife is like mine I would never hear the end of it 😆 plus I think you're wife did a great job on the paint 👍 👏

I think she did a damn good job.for her first painting.. those pants look amazing I actually like the gloss on the other and the base but I think they are very close as well but keep the thing out of the dog house
To be honest the one that Mrs.X painted actually does look the best. The paint looks so much nicer and cleaner. The one in shorts looks to wet and glossy. Where as the other looks like actual Orange/brown stone. And looks amazing. The actual sculpt of the portraits are better on the modern Thing. Oh Mrs.X paint defintely wins... YAY. he won great video Mr.X and well done Mrs.X fantastic work both of you take care
Both are very close. Hard choice imho. I would keep the right one. Paint looks great on both. Good job on her first paint job.
Mrs.X to me has the better paint job I just like the color and the sculpt more but the other one did come close to getting my win. There both fantastic. Great review Mr.X.
Agreed they are pretty similar and you should keep the more modern one. I like her paint job but like the lighter shade of blue. Also if you sell the first one she painted you will never recover from that insult.
I like the more modern thing better even though the base is a lot better on the other thing. The paint on the one your wife did is also much better, I like the darker blue used.
I'm a huge Thing fan, and would absolutely love these pieces in my collection! I have about 100 figures/statues of him currently

Tough both have there good n bad points. But in the end you made the right choice I do like the modern take n flat paint job especially on a rocks the base is ok 🙌🏼

For paint, I think the one your wife painted is better just cause it looks cleaner and the other one seems to have a full gloss finish

If you put a clear coat on your wife's paint job it would look nicer then the professional one lol . Should definitly do another video with her doing more paintings. Should buy that new 5k batman peice with all the villains looking at him . It comes in a plain grey . That would be a dope video.
She’s gonna do another kit here soon. AFter that she will start doing videos of her painting them. Right now she isn’t comfortable with it yet.
The one your wife painted looks better IMO (although I think she should work on the rock base a little bit more and add some shading). With that being said, she still did an amazing job.

The Thing on the left with the fire hydrant has a "shine" to it...which normally would be a little weird since Ben Grimm is made out of rock which usually doesn't shine...but the broken hydrant behind him may explain that, otherwise the shine looks a little out of place. Overall I prefer the more modern Thing and Mrs. X gets the thumbs up for the paint as well. 👍👌

I’m a sucker for the classic comic look where he isn’t wearing pants. I would keep the the one on the right. The modern is a little too clean with the pants. If the modern version had shorts, I would pick that one because the pose is better. I pick ssc exclusive classic Thing 😉😬
I own the Hungry Hulk The Thing but have to say if the Del’Otto The Thing was available at the same time I ordered I would have purchased it instead. I agree with everything you said except the paint job. Mrs. X did a great job but she is nowhere close to being considered a master painter. Give her more statues and some time. Great video.

This video made me realize just how well Mrs X did on her paint job, and she will only improve over time. Having said that....air bubbles on the left at 5:22 that should have been addressed. ;)

Tough. I like modern's paint, but for me I think the classic with the rock forehead brow takes the win. Maybe if you hit the classic one with a matte finishing spray, take some of the shine off. It'll be even better.
