I've been intermittent fasting for over a year, and I like it. I use to skip breakfast, but my new eating window is eating breakfast and skip the later meal. I eat 3 times a day and zero snacks. Sometimes without even noticing I eat only 2 meals. By 4 p.m. I'm finished eating. All my meals are homemade. I grew up eating healthy and eat those foods I like. I'm blessed those foods are super foods. Great podcast Dominique ❤ hoping you'll do a heart health podcast for us over 50 gals, I'll be 67 in August. I'm 5'4", 120 to 124 lbs and active. Still, for those of us hopefully doing the right things, heart disease kills 1 in 2 women. Thank you dear one.

I'm sorry but women need to train hard and heavy in order to gain muscle in the gym with the machines, dunbells, doing heavy duty exercises like squats, deadlifts, bench press and so on. Especially during Menopause, because we lose density in our bone structure and muscle. We can also prevent ilnesses like arthrosis or osteoposis. Half way like Pilates or Yoga don't really work. It is really hard work and a lot of effort for us 50+ girls to build muscle and improve our quality of life in the future! That is our commitment!

I started watching this video because she started out with you should not restrict...but then goes right into restricting..like skipping breakfast and the misinformation just kept coming. Doctors who do not have a degree in nutrition should not speak as though they've done more than a semester in it. Pretty disappointed in this.

      I agree!
This guest was not very forthcoming. She seemed hesitant to share her "typical meals in a day" that Dominique asked her about. She answered with I usually skip breakfast...what? Then she had "left overs over lettuce" for lunch and "leftovers" for dinner. Okay...what is your leftovers?? Don't ask her back Dominique...she was not informative at all! Everything she said was common sense and things that most people know. Also, french fries, once a year??? This guest was insulting and unrealistic.

You hit the nail on the head Dominique! Planning is a huge part of succeeding in a healthier lifestyle. It sets you up for being successful for sure. I would just like to say I picked up this book that is titled, Let food be your medicine by Don Colbert, MD, and it has really helped me tremendously! We need to seek out and support regenerative food and farming in our local communities. Processed foods have so many terrible things in them that are not helping us age well at all. Thank you for all your helpful information you share with us.

But, as a Dietitian with a Master's degree in nutrition and 30 years experience, I was disheartened to hear messaging that supports diet culture thinking. Women in menopause need to be relieved from guilt and shame. We make sustainable healthy choices from a place of love and kindness for our human form, not restriction and shame.

I have noticed that the older I get, the more selective I need to be about what foods I eat so that my body doesn’t get mad at me be it through feeling less energy or just not feeling as great thereafter. The key here is listen to your body and respond accordingly with changes in your diet. Example: I use to feel fine after eating 4 slices of pizza, now I can handle just 2 and I’m fine with that!

If you are taking a food sensitivity test, the test is not designed for you to now avoid these foods for the rest of your life. It’s a tool for you to understand these are the foods that are affecting you currently and can be avoided to relieve symptoms. However, the point of working with a functional medicine doctor to find out why you are sensitive to them and treat that cause.
Very often the reason is leaky gut, meaning that these are probably foods that you have eaten in the past and they have likely passed into the bloodstream through the gut lining blood barrier. In a healthy person the gut lining is, a tight network that doesn’t permit anything to pass through however when you’re sick it becomes permeable due to many things that are treatable. This is when the immune system becomes activated and will treat these foods like invaders and make antibodies that usually causes a host of symptoms. Bloating, abdominal pain, hives, constipation, diarrhea, etc. etc. I don’t understand her comment that a functional medicine doctor would not know what to do about it because their entire approach is to do something about it. They operate under the philosophy to find out and treat the root cause.

Before I poo-poo anything, let me say : Overall I REALLY appreciated this video! It's a huge concern for many of us how to adapt to taking care of our health differently in middle age. I strongly agree with eating a colorful diet, focusing on getting vegetables into EVERY meal, keeping protein high... all these things seem to make me feel great and the scale is friendlier. ....... I did of course hear a few remarks that rubbed me the WRONG way: :-)
After describing the enormous benefit of breakfast (which I certainly FEEL myself), she then said she sometimes skips breakfast altogether. That sounds like "if you can cut calories, cut them" As opposed to nourishing and keeping your energy and focus high all day.

This will remove ALL of your eye make up and other make up, then you would go on to your cleansing step. I use the same LaRoche Posay cleanser as you, because you recommended it! I have a huge problem and it's the opposite of losing weight. I'm 60 and have a hard time gaining weight. Yes, it feels the same as trying to lose weight. I try to drink a lot of protein drinks, but my stomach is so bad that meat... Even the smell now makes me nauseous. This was a great podcast, though. Dominique, maybe you'll think about having a doctor on for those like me. She's great though.❤

I lived in France for many years (I am Danish), and observed women and how they eat, as most stay slim after 50. Basically they don't restrict what they eat, they eat what they want but they do not snack during the day at all. They eat breakfast (not too big), they eat a fairly big lunch, and big dinner at 19.30/20 (which is difficult for me, so I keep that light). Then they may take 1-2 days if they have no social plans, where they eat a small dinner meal....Also, French eat local food, always with the veggies in season, not a lot of processed food, so that is one key as well to keep the weight. Then they walk a lot which I always did too...

I'm French and slim. French people take time over their meals - lunch breaks for working people are usually one and a half to two hours, and meal vouchers are often subsidised by their employer.
Unfortunately, a lot of French are eating fast food and we see more and more very overweight people these days.

I watch a lot of your content and love what you share, but this one made me second guess a lot of what I’ve been told. I’m 56, post meno and everything I try to lose weight proves minimal results. I’ve been told to eat several small meals a day, front load calories for early in the day, burn more calories than consume. Eat less carbs and 100 g protein a day. I Feel like it’s all a lie😢. I honestly think every body is different. I also feel like this doctor contradicted herself quite a bit. She recommends yogurt or omelettes for breakfast but breakfast isn’t really a meal?

Looooove to listen to intelligent women! This podcast was amazing, kept my attention the whole time. Thank you for sharing your tips, that is always fun and interesting. Any good trick or observation helps. Weight loss working for me is similar to Dr. Awad recommendation - proteins, veggie, berries, avoiding sugars & complex carbs (1 wholegrain toast daily in). However for me calories IN count, and fat intake counts as well. I use MyFitnessPal app - free version. I have daily fat max and daily calorie intake max, different values for weigh maintenance and different for weight loss. Calorie counting is hard just at the beginning, very soon you know carb, fat and caloric values of your faves and you get overall idea what to eat in a day without counting. Meal prep on the weekend is crucial. Cheers to everyone trying to lose weight or just simply to stay healthy! Also cheers to everyone who tries to spread positivity ❤

I’d love to hear what “proteins” she’s referring to.
Theres a lot of different options (plant based or flesh based and even in those some are suggested to steer away from or to at least minimally consume .
It’s a very confusing world when it comes to what proteins are safe and actually not inflammatory .

A lot of red flags in her recommendations I’m afraid Dominique. She is out of touch with the research.
Dr Stacy Sims and Dr Bill Campbell are the most experienced with not only female fat loss but also female performance regarding fat loss/body composition.
    The biggest red flags were:
    1) Suggesting skipping breakfast and just having coffee (major no…it only spikes cortisol and leads to spikes in stress as well as poor gut health
    2) Dairy is inflammatory-so to suggest yogurt for breakfast is not an optimal choice
    3) Using “a dumbbell” is not a decent way of promoting strength training for women
She might be a GP who’s fallen into talking about “healthy eating” but she’s not clued up or experienced enough with the real research.
Women need to consume up to 1g per lb of their bodyweight per day in protein, maximise sleep, balance magnesium levels and strength train 3 x per week minimum.
    It’s simple but not easy.
She’s not an expert in this.
But Dr Campbell and Dr Sims are.

Agree with Dominique that food prep is CRITICAL to making it easier to eat well, and to avoiding pitfalls and spontaneous regretable food decisions!
When I hear any new ideas now how to eat, I am always thinking how I could make it work day-to-day. I was very interested to hear the guest's "how I eat in an example day" (GREAT QUESTION) but I think she said "leftovers" and "we cook something". ? I think she may have misunderstood the question honestly. She was answering in terms of the frequency of her eating (2 or 3 meals a day, no snacks), and the importance of keeping protein and fats in each meal. So that was useful but not what we were hoping to find out (details).

How can you trust a female doctor who didn't understand that women gain weight during menopause until she experienced it herself and then did research to figure out what is going on? Also, one minute she says that it affects our insulin levels, then she says it's okay to skip breakfast. I stopped watching at that point. This person is not an expert.

That is not true! Pasta potatoes and rice DO play a role in our diet if that is what we like to eat! It’s just carbs, and if they are within your calorie-span it’s alright
Don’t demonize those foods please Dominique! Just because you don’t eat them. That is just the old way of thinking, like atkins and low carb diets.
Not all women SHOULD give up on them because they provide much needed energy so we can work out and lift those weights. And have more ENERGY

I carry a lot of muscle and my maintenance calories are around 2100. I eat minimally processed, Whole Foods as much as possible and more meals less snacks. Carbs are not the enemy. And skipping breakfast is unnecessary. So much diet culture being spread here.

@@GummyCandy4Life agreed!!! I am the same age as you and eat a few servings of carbs per day. Mine are usually oats, rice or potatoes. ❤️ My workout routine similar to yours. These types of videos make menopausal women feel like they need to starve themselves and this is not the case. Most need to get their fitness in check and calories to match activity level. If there are hormonal issues preventing increases in activity level get that checked out. It’s a multi pronged approach and very individual. But my guess is a lot of women are not honest with themselves regarding fitness. You MUST lift heavy. Non negotiable after 40
