    "Eminent domain abuse" is redundant.

I watched this movie last night at a special showing and met Susette Kelo. She's awesome. Just a humble quiet person who wanted to be left alone.
It was a great movie. Sadly, liberty movies seldom translate to the big screen. Despite the best efforts of the producer and director and the actors, it seldom works. I have concluded that most of the people who make movies don't really grok liberty and that's why something is lost in the translation. I got the feeling that Courtney, the producer, is a bit left leaning, but she and her husband did an excellent job of telling Susette's story. I'm sure some liberties were taken with some of the factual details to facilitate the telling of the story, but the story was well told. It was compelling.
I was a bit amused that Courtney and those in her circle were surprised that the liberal judges sided against Susette. Imagine that. A liberal judge is in favor of the power of government at the expense of individual rights. I was surprised that Courtney was surprised yet still made such a great movie.
It occurred to me on the way home that Susette's city council was against her, her governor and state supreme court were against her, and the US Supreme Court was against her. This isn't a local government problem, nor a state government problem, nor a federal government problem. This is a government problem. People will be upset by this specific Supreme Court ruling but they look at it as an aberration. Despite all the evidence to the contrary, they'll think that the Supreme Court got it wrong this time, but in the vast majority of cases, government is a force for good in our lives. Until it's their door kicked in during a 5 AM raid, or their dog that's shot, or their vehicle that's stolen in a crooked asset forfeiture scheme, or their house that's taken in a crony eminent domain land grab, they'll continue to believe that government is their friend. After all, if not for government, who would build the roads?

There are tons and tons of people who read NYT unironically, today, in 2023.
    Not a joke.

Makes perfect sense now that NYT would hate on this movie. Of course they would.

Thing is, it's impossible to take an objective look at eminent domain, specialy in relation to this specific issue, and conclude that it's good
So obviously someone looking for things to get offended by would conclude the movie was pandering
