I really appreciate the fact that you put these out and are brutally honest about all of it. What works, what did not, but also why. I love the fact that the simplicity of your explanations leaves me looking to simplify and be more creative with what I do. Please do put more of these out.
I love these kind of videos, super practical and I always gain a few little insights. I appreciate that you do BTS as well as business and creative philosophy. I’d appreciate a walk through your use of flags/scrims and dots on a shot. I know the theory but I’d love to see how you implement it and the subtle effects you are looking for it to create.
I love your camera ridge !!!! I have a whole RZ kit and to see how you fixed up your D 850 ( I guess , fyi I am working with this as well) and used a shift / tilt mount on rail !!!! I had no idea that was happening ! Great stuff - Great tutorial!
I like all and any videos that you do because of your stile of doing them. Your always informative and it's a;most as if we are there with you in the room. Keep up the brilliant work.
Fantastic video - enjoyed your thought processes for creating each shot - everything aspect of the photo is created with a reason or motivation - excellent! Yes - create more videos like this one! What is a good entry-level flash ! thx for the content!
Great video. The most interesting thing I took from this was - “I’m doing this in preparation for next year.” Instead of wasting time going and having a drink or just futzing around, you’re already thinking about what’s to come. Also, just curious if you actually took any off-the-cuff shots so they’d have that disposable camera look…awkward angles and terrible lighting to complement the final beautiful shot.
Your comment made me curios... what kind od images are you thinking of here (is that something you do with a styling like this)? 🤓 Thanks in advance ;-)
Today I learned what a Snowball is; also today I learned that I will never drink a Snowball in my entire life. Love this debrief kind of video. Hope it works for you because it got me thinking and asking and inspired.
This is all absolutely fascinating. I wonder if the Martini shot proves the well known aphorism that “blue and green should never be seen…” The colour ‘clash’ is quite the thing!
A snowball is a bit marmite! Noticed you didn’t have any Tia Maria not seen it in the shops locally for months, can get some messed about version with vanilla or the like but not the basic one! If you wanted a very cheesy version you need some twiglets and some fake snow too!
Would love to attend your workshops and assist you on set if I didn't live on the other corner of the world. Love your content though. Definitely going to try one light set ups as much possible in the future.
It's interesting hearing an explanation behind these shots, especially because when I saw them pop up on your IG and website, they felt a bit out of character for you. The flat color backgrounds are something that I strongly associate with your work, so seeing the soft fabric threw me off.
Please do more of this videos Very help full! Up to date and strait to the point! Please can you advice of the flag you use in more details? Such as the one with the net like material!! Thank you so much!
@TinHouseStudioUK amazing video as always. Quick question - when using multiple flags do you use it with the modelling lamp on? If no, how do you manage to get the exact lighting you desire without it becoming too time consuming?
I totally dig and use the single light approach for stuff like this but... I'm feeling like a beauty dish moved in closer with a grid on it would be a little easier to control and refine the look a touch better. Some of those shots look like exactly what they are. A single light blown way the hell out over the scene. I don't see the level of control you seem to be putting the effort into. I think part of the problem is, with the light so far away you get some intense inverse square drop off, mixed with highlight reflection that starts to look a little wild. It's definitely a cool look but seems a little unrefined in this set. A great demonstration though. Something we all need to see at some point and you did the work!
Thanks. Problem with the beauty dish close is that the fall off is too great, shadows too soft and space to control the light is limited. Which is the oposite of the look here which is sharp shadows, even light where needed, then flagged away. The alternative would be one light as is, then other lights to add the contrast, but this adds catch lights. Might be worth revisiting the inverse square though as I think the second paragraph you are explaining the oposite of what would be caused there, although it may be your wording rather than understanding.
Once again, a great video! Really liked the discussion of controlling a single light. Also liked the various shapes of the drape. Nice shots. I’d like you to discuss the process by which you conceive the total contents of the top of the trolley. It looked great. Was it entirely out of your head, or did the client provide a list of items? Your discussions on business were good, but this was preferable. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was just a test shoot so no client. We had a mood board that the stylist made and we just kinda went from there with what looked nice.
Very informative as always, thanks Scott. I find the walkthrough of the entire process from - intention to execution - very useful. A suggestion would be to find out a bit more about how you produce these test shoots - sourcing props, developing concepts etc. :)
I liked this breakdown. Is there a standard time frame on how far ahead you would start shooting for holidays or other deadlines? When would you be contacted about starting a Christmas session for next year for example?
Nice video! I learned a few things. Especially on the Black Flag demo. I have a couple of questions. 1. The Lady that is doing the setup, is she a professional? 2. Also, Does she take into consideration how things are going to look from the framing and the Focal-Length perspective when she's setting up or do you guide her through that? I'm so jealous of your Studio! Lol
Really enjoy some BTS shots at normal speed rather than all speedy time lapses. Light up at 14 feet? Nice. My ceiling is 7 feet, lol. Workin’ with what we got…

Such a great and relevant video 🫶 The demystification of the process is so helpful, so please make more like this 🤓
The second shot is fantastic, the colours, the "mess" and especially the camera angle. Love it!
Thanks
Really loved this. The demystification of the process is so helpful for me, I hope you make more!
Thank you! Will do!
Would love to see more videos like this 👍🙌
Will do.
I love your camera ridge !!!! I have a whole RZ kit and to see how you fixed up your D 850 ( I guess , fyi I am working with this as well) and used a shift / tilt mount on rail !!!! I had no idea that was happening ! Great stuff - Great tutorial!
As always, a really informative and educational video without feeling educational and mentoring. Great!
I like all and any videos that you do because of your stile of doing them. Your always informative and it's a;most as if we are there with you in the room. Keep up the brilliant work.
I appreciate that!
Great video, love the insight
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the perspective on the one light and flags/scrims
Excellent stuff!
Definitely a fan of seeing a little of the thought process behind the work.
More of this style of video (vs technical craft stuff) please.
That's really what we want to see/hear/view ! Fantastic video !
Really enjoy this style of video with a high level overview of how a shot was set up.

Will try and make some mroe next year.

Got to keep going!
I did want to get some on film, but I was so busy I actually forgot. Id taken the fuji 400 H out the freezer and everything.
@@TinHouseStudioUK lol. Thanks for posting these videos. They’re definitely an inspiration to all of us!
Your comment made me curios... what kind od images are you thinking of here (is that something you do with a styling like this)? 🤓 Thanks in advance ;-)
very nice professor !
Many thanks!
Great information! The use of a single light and how you setup stuff has really made me think about my next test shots.
More of these please. Fantastic stuff!
these are lovely!! would love an episode on how to choose personal projects and what to focus on!
thanks so much for this tutorial, explaining your thought process, very helpful!
Very useful input on shaping the lights, thank you. New subs here.
Amazing video as always. It was really interesting to see how you manage to light up the whole picture with a one light setup so far away. 👌🏼

Happy to help!
Thank you, love this video and I learned a lot from it!

yeah ive not seen any tia maria for a while. I do enjoy it on ice for that 80s experience .
I feel like you need to be a filmmaker with your skillful lighting techniques. Haha
Great video. I'm curious why you don't use constant light. Seems it would be easier to set flags, etc. Thanks.
Mostly power. Its rare that I go below 1200 watts on a flash unit.

How do you get the liquid in the drinks to glow? Drinks always look dark/murky/opaque in my shots.

Here's a pre-video comment to help algorithmic things!
Thanks, apreciate the help :)

Will see what I can do. Its all static camera stuff and most of the day is VERY dull to watch haha
The shots seem off target from your usual bold and graphic work Scott. Not a bad thing, just saying.
Blue & green should never be seen, without a colour, in between..
