I don't think there's anyone else who's putting out such good summaries of system politics. Thank you for keeping us informed.
Thanks so much my Lord!
I was working at a convention centre in 2018 and served Turnbull a few weeks before he was kicked out. I remember it was an odd feel in the room like everyone knew something was happening but no one dare mention it.
how does it feel to be a small but important part on the inaction on climate change action?
@@windwaker0rules what!? Because I worked at a convention centre? Do you know what a conversation centre is?
@@clabood You're forever a part of the hospitality staff who served LNP politicians who are responsible for climate change inaction just by doing your job haha.
@@clabood organising the meeting ground for a bunch of ghouls and you probably served regristration or food and drinks?
@@windwaker0rulesI just served the man lunch and water. Didn't organise anything.
However I have also served Rudd and Swan.
This event just sticks in my mind because of the tension in the room. Then a few weeks late he was out.
Turnbull deserved what he got. Abbot was the one who won the election and he should have stayed PM
Exactly
I can respect abbot, I don't like his policy choices when dealing with unrepresented working class native seeking representation (using sedition laws against edgy teens doesn't impress anyone) but he's a fire fighter who told the media to fuck off, I can respect that. I don't like him as a politician, but I respect him as a man.
I'm gonna quote a running gag in my family from that time
"So whose prime minister this week?"
There was a small time 2010-2019 where Australian politics was the most cutthroat it had ever been I’m glad their reformed party leadership changed but it was still fun to see .
Not sure if you've mentioned it in this video as I'm still in the midst of watching atm but congrats on the kid my friend! My wife also gave birth to our 2nd boy on Ekka Wednesday. A hallowed day for all QLDers, I'm sure you'd agree!
Congratulations mate! Awesome news!
As always with the coalition, it is about them and their parlour games, not us and Australia.
All of them from howard onwards are skid marks on the underpants of Australian political history.
They have contributed nothing that has bettered the lives of ordinary Australians, nothing.
Of course Kevin Rudd was all about the Australian people and never about himself. In fact his desire for the Secretariat of the United Nations was all about the Australian people.
@@Dogwash that desire for that role was done well after he was out of Parliament!
@@Elitrian It was, but if you read his correspondence between himself, Turnbull and Bishop that he released to the non Murdoch press you will see that Rudd blames the Turnbull's decision not to provide Rudd with unlimited funding for him to travel around the World on numerous occasions on the Australian Public purse or provide him with funding for staff to help with lobbying for the position at the UN as the reason he didn't get it. I am not supporting the LNP players but if you want to talk about skid marks on the underpants of Australian Political history Rudd is front and centre.
@@Dogwash "unlimited funding for him to travel around the World on numerous occasions on the Australian Public purse or provide him with funding for staff to help with lobbying for the position" unlike cormann who scott gave all that to
@@Dogwash Nice bit of whataboutery and attempt at deflection, but well short of a cigar.
How about addressing my comment Dogsbody?
What contribution toward bettering the lives of ordinary Australians has the coalition made in the last 26 years?
This video is amazing! This channel is amazing! Local in-depth Australian analysis content is what I've been after for years
I don't Turnbull was ever really the leader of the Liberal Party. They never listened to him, policies that he was interested in went nowhere. He was just a figurehead that was put in front of the party, because he was a bit more voter friendly than the other options.
Finally a video on it!! Yeah Scott Morrison played his way to the top and got there. Every MP supports their leader...until they don't.
NBN and Snowy Mountain 2.0 - enuff said.
I remember preferring Turnbull to the surrounding Liberal leaders, but I don't think you were too hard on him. He was a decent politician but the party he took charge off was far too conaervative for him to actually do anything with. I always saw the plebiscite as a club to beat the conservative majority into submission.
I do find it interesting that Murdoch seemed to know Dutton was unelectable even back then.
Excellent video, please keep them coming.
Is it really better to have a rational person do irrational things on purpose?
@@windwaker0rulesabsolutely, in order to create reform sometimes you need to come in like a wrecking ball in order to beat the nations into submission
The problem with Turnbull was that he was in a crouch from the moment he became PM, he should have come out swinging, so when they came for him he could be like Sampson.
Turnbull was definitely treated poorly by his party but his 30 consecutive negative polls made his downfall inevitable. Unfortunately the Libs became a party of hardline conservatives leading to the resignation of capable centrists like Bishop and Pyne. We ended up with a religous zealot so convinced of his ability to lie and spin his way out of any situation that he became loathed by the Australian public. Watching him pathetically languish in ignominy on the backbenches is a stern reminder to any politician who thinks they can treat the electorate like idiots.
Pyne sold weapons to dictators and Bishop was a lawyer who told Asbestos victims to get F$%^ed, if thats centre then centrists are completely evil.
Good ol' "see you next Tuesday 😏" Pyne
Would rather a 'religious zealot' than a woke, socialist, climate stooge. Pick your poison.
well then you're a clown@@notsofatmike1
Australia has had some absolutely horrible PMs since the turn of the millennium, but even taking that into account Slow-Mo was a very, very special sort of scumbag.
Scott Morrison and “great integrity” in the same sentence: who’da thunk it??
What a gem of a channel!
great video mate!

Even Abbott helped with the Bushfires.

I wonder what would've happened if Malcolm Turnbull was leader in 2010 and/or 2013.
Malcolm Turnbull was hands tied from the get go. I really liked him as PM, but will never make that mistake again that a good leader can control his party. Unluckily for Malcolm, he pissed off both sides by being too centrist. Being in his position, really he needed a big bang of a radical policy changes, talk up major visions of the future. Not hard to understand policies. And allow the hard right use their scaremongering. Tony Abbott should have been fully tossed from LNP. Not left in the back seat, as you can tell, he used every opportunity to take a good swipe at Malcolm that led to Morrison (wolf in sheep’s clothing) and Dutton hard right to take over. Kudos to Morrison about COVID though. He would have been under intense pressure to go business as usual, but held back and saved a ton of lives.
Didn't touch on the hilarious come from behind 2019 victory for Morrison or is that going to be part of another video?
"How good is Australia! And how good are Australians" is coming soon!
ScoMos Magnum Opus, an incredible political moment
It must be difficult living an entire life for Turnbull believing he is born to rule only to somehow get there and find no one else shares that belief. Also he was quite shit at it. His response - throw money at the liberal party.
The multiple incompetent decisions by government highlighted in the video is depressing!
Turnbull came across as somewhat affable, but a smiling fool is still a fool.
Thank you! I love the detail even the right channel 9 logo of that era and the smart phones have a home button, all correct era "props" and backgrounds. We're not worthy!

"That was a pretty universal feeling across the country." Tell me you're middle class, etc. Still, good vid. Cheers.
Ha! Fair and not wrong.
The Turnbull Shorten election was a time I didn’t vote Liberal. Labor didn’t make much of a gain on their primary from the flooring Abbott gave them, more so about a million primary votes went right from the Linerals, not left. I was one of them who didn’t understand why an elected PM was knocked to be replaced by a wannabe Green.
Malcolm doesn't need to be played by any one else, he does a good job on his own merit
Really keen on the new animation in the videos. All your effort is shining through!
Great news! Thanks so much Liam!

Angus Taylor is only loyal to one person Angus Taylor
Bishop claimed she did not want leadership after she saw what happened to Gillard, she said this before the leadership battle. She was thus never a serious contender. Morrison, however, was pushed into it at the last minute as there was no other contenders. At the time there was serious debate about Dutton being the only one interested. It is evident Morrison was pushed into the position simply because Dutton was too much in Abbott's camp. Morrison, however was a perosn who would swing anyway, Morrison was a beurocrat, not a politician.
It was essentially the same thing that happened in the television show finale (and first episode of its sequel) of "Yes Minister".
It was especially evident that Morrison also thought the position was temporary, likely to be lost at the next election that was approaching. He seemed to genuinely think he was losing, even on the night of his victory he seemed totally unprepared for a win and prepared to lose.
Morrison never wanted leadership, he was pushed into it only on the basis that half the party figured he was a decent stand in rather than have the alternative Dutton.
12:28 is that Friendlyjordies?
What a rollercoaster. Proud to be Australian....😢😅
Does this mean that scrapping hte mining and carbon tax gained bipartisan support or can the treasurer do that wuthout parliament

Title: Nostalgia for Malcolm Turnbull
In the ever-changing landscape of Australian politics, there are figures who leave an indelible mark, and Malcolm Turnbull was undoubtedly one such luminary. As the 29th Prime Minister of Australia, his tenure was marked by a distinct blend of intellect, charisma, and a commitment to progressive policies.
The memories of Turnbull's leadership continue to linger in the hearts of many who admired his vision for a more inclusive and innovative Australia. His advocacy for climate action, support for marriage equality, and dedication to economic reform resonated deeply with a broad spectrum of Australians.
There's a wistfulness that accompanies the recollection of Turnbull's time in office. The eloquence with which he articulated his ideas, the deftness with which he navigated complex issues, and the air of statesmanship he brought to the forefront - all these elements contributed to a distinctive era in Australian politics.
His approach was marked by a willingness to engage in thoughtful dialogue, seeking consensus across party lines. This ability to bridge divides and seek common ground remains a shining example of leadership in a world often characterized by polarization.
Yet, the passage of time has seen Turnbull's presence on the political stage wane. As new leaders step into the spotlight, there's a certain nostalgia that accompanies reflections on his tenure. The echoes of his speeches, the resonance of his policy initiatives, and the legacy he left behind continue to inspire those who admired his style of governance.
Missing Malcolm Turnbull is not just a sentiment confined to politics, but a recognition of the unique imprint he left on the political landscape. His influence endures in the conversations about the future of Australia and the values that underpin its society.
As the pages of Australian political history continue to turn, the legacy of leaders like Malcolm Turnbull serves as a reminder of the potential for transformative change and the enduring impact of principled leadership.

I like this channel very much.
But I would like it if the word "reform" disappeared from the English language.
"Reform" is pejorative, a change that is deemed to be worthwhile. This is not so clear, sometimes even decades later.
Call it for what it is: changes.
Unless you want: under "reforms" to the Australian judicial system, all Australians are now deemed to be guilty until proven innocent.
Cannot stand Joyce or Morrison. Biggest hypocrites.
