So sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad two months ago. This show had become one of his favorites. He passed before he got to finish and watching it in a weird way makes me feel like he’s there with me.
I've had numerous mentors throughout my life who have held positions of authority. And I've heard stories from many more people who have leadership positions. The conclusion I've come to is that a leader absolutely cannot be the friend of the men and the women they lead. However, simultaneously, a leader needs to join them in their experiences occasionally, whether that be working, drinking, or just going through life with them. It's a fine line to walk, but done right, it makes an enormous difference. John seems to get that, at least more than most leaders.
Walker and Lloyd’s beef was some of the best imo. I hated to see 2 such great characters go at it, but it developed their character so well and the conclusion was a nice bow.
@@MaddoxSquad I saw some bunk house scenes, in some a pretty blonde was arms around the old guy floyd, in the other she was arms around the younger guy walker, still don't know what she works in the ranch, does not look cowboy stuff

I get it Jimmy's girl was saying about being branded by the ranch as a form of enslavement, ownership. In my opinion the the brand is a sign of loyalty, devotion, honor and most importantly family.
One of the sillier parts of the show. Hang out with any semi competent criminal and they'll tell you that gang tattoos let alone a brand are for the idiots that are meant to get caught or are just generally disposable. Ever notice how john doesn't have one? And the only son that does got it when he was trying to rebel against him? Its what gangs and cults do. Break down your freedom by breaking down your sense of reality and self worth just because you wanted to belong to something. I love rip, but john finds misfits like him to insulate him and his family (the people who arent disposable) from the real illegal shit.
Honestly, I think these were the best parts of the show second only to the native american aspects. It showed cowboys being cowboys and having lots of fun in the process. The one with Jamie is my favorite. Throughout the series, he always seemed very happy whenever he was involved in actual ranch work and community and somewhat somber whenever he donned his suit and tie in the office. This lines up with him as a kid saying to John that he wanted to be just like him and have his job (and being disappointed with being told to go to school to be an attorney) and later as a man telling Sarah he was born to be a rancher and never wanted to be a lawyer. I honestly believe cowboying is his true destiny and the reason he's the way he is because that was taken from him so abruptly and senselessly. This and the Indigenous storylines should've been the show's main focus as opposed to a selfish cowboy kingpin's pointless, stubborn fight against a changing world and its self-detrimental effects on his family...
@@hns_203 My thoughts exactly. Maybe then, he would've gotten approval from John.
