I was 14 years old at that race. Thank you for sharing this video. I did not know that it even existed. The Guest flag man… was none other than “Cooter” from the Dukes of Hazzard. I certainly remember that Being a fan of the show! I was there with my mom and dad …my first NASCAR race, again thank you for posting this. My dad is 84 now…My mom is 81! I just shared this so they could watch this all over again. This brings back great memories.
Thanks for putting this up. I'm really enjoying these Late Model Sportsman races. We never got to see these races in Australia in the 1980s. All we got was highlights packages of selected Winston Cup races on the Australian version of Wide World of Sports. I might be wrong, they might've showed some Winston Cup races live, but they would've been in the middle of the night and so tricky to watch, but we definitely never got any LMS races.
Notice Bill Idiot isnt driving a Ford, hes in a Pontiac, because in this class nascar didnt make provisions for the Fords to keep up with them dominate Small Block Chevrolets
False. Bill was asked by Darrell Waltrip to jump in the car because DW wanted to rest up for the 600. Marion Cox, a long time Ford loyalist fielded a car for Larry Hoopaugh. Although Cox's Ford had engine trouble it was always a strong runner in the Sportsman series in the 70's. Just a little research and you could have found this information.

@eddiedawkins19 You seem somewhat ignorant! This division ran V6s starting in ‘82…they didn’t run the V8 until ‘95 in the Busch Series. If you actually listen to the race, you’ll notice… it’s not a V-8 engine. Hopefully…you can tell the difference…between a V6 and a Small block V-8??? Tell me you don’t know about racing… without telling me! I was there…. I was a 14 yr old kid, Sitting at the top…Just before the start finish line. I still have the Original promotional book …purchased by my parents ..from this ‘83 race for a souvenir keepsake. It was my first big race, other than Hickory and local dirt tracks growing up in western NC. I certainly remember it!

RIP Hill Overton... Great announcer going back to the old URN days
Awesome to see an early 70s Dodge Challenger in the field
And in this race the year prior to this that team ran a Dodge Aspen!

Glad you liked it. I have several videos on DVD from the early to mid 90's I'll upload someday. Finding time to do it is my problem right now.
This is awesome footage along with economaki radio. This is Rick Hendricks first win as a owner in any kind of racing in nascar. Thanks for posting
Thank you NCMarrk for posting this quality video. Namaste
Thank you
First Technical Win for Hendrick in NASCAR

@@NCMarrk , maybe Bill did drive in place DW, but you can continue to make them excuses for Ford
