Coming from bass fishing and really starting to get into fly angling. The question about whether to master dry, streamer, euro really stuck out to me. I think you try to master them one by one. I tied on a jig one day and I wouldn't let myself switch until I caught at least 3 fish with that tactic. That's been how I've done any fishing since, tie on what you struggle with and don't move on til you have learned something new about it. There will always be your go-to tactic but it will develop you into an all-around angler who has few bad fishing days.
Great session. The discussion around the hatches and the water temperature was very informative. There is that range of water temps where the bugs and fish get active and when they are in combination it is THE time to be on the water. Interesting about the warming temps in springtime and cooling temps in the fall. Seems obvious but your explanation was very helpful in understanding it. Thanks.
thank you all for all the tips on the site. I have learned so much and I am a fly fishing idiot.. Started tying flies this past weekend and discovered I am blind! But knocked out a couple good ones..
This was a great listen 🤙 thank you all. I've personally found alot of trial and error worked best for me. Gave hard evidence quickly what was working for me and kind of leaned into those methods. It's hard to get true answers through all the inevitable toxicity
I LOVED this format for the show. I hope you do more of them. I learned a lot about problems beginners have and how to work on solving them. Thank you.
I live in Utah. I started fly fishing this past March; it’s October now. I got a 9ft 5wt set up that was recommended from my local fly shop. I’ve been out river fishing about 8 times and lake fishing twice. I got a couple bites but my lawd….i must be the world’s worst fisherman. If I didn’t enjoy the outdoors so much I probably would have quit by now. Still figuring out my cast on the river and just when I get in a flow…….snag a rock, or snag a branch/weed on my back cast. Crazy thing is, I just can’t wait to find time to sneak to a new spot or just get out there and try again.
Why do the rise and not bite:Could it be that the water is a bit to Warm and there is less oxygène, so the Come up to breathe. That why there are much less salmons in the east northern rivers in Canada. OF COURSE, I COULD BE WRONG.
@@venturesflyco thank you for responding. Right now I have 6wt double taper line on 5/6 wt 7' rod and this is my only one rod what I have. want to try to put indicator. I know that I will do a cast , but weight forward line over double taper would be better or not?
My orvis clear water broke from the rod tip section while I was bringing in a fish. I think I should have let some slack out.. Not a large fish.. any thoughts I did lift the fish out of water for seconds without letting slack. I guess to much tension
Honestly, the fly rod should handle most of that. It might have been caused by previous strain (yanking it to get a fly out of a tree, flies/split shot hitting it on a previous cast, accidentally stepping on it, etc.) and then trying to get that fish in was the final blow and it snapped. But its hard to say. 🤷🏽♂️
Oh man!! I totally forgot to add that. My bad. 🤦🏽♂️I did make an IG post about it. Haha. You can check it out here: instagram.com/reel/DAd3fCluKxJ/?igsh=MTl4ejI4ZDBvMjYwcA==
Hey, thanks for the invite. I think you will bring Spencer here before I come to you guys, and then we can do the podcast somewhere by the Soča River 💙💚💙. All the best to Ventures Fly Co. Thanks for keeping me company on these rainy days and unfishable water levels. Keep up the good work 🎥🔥!
@@venturesflyco Well I'm just a heathen Pepsi drinker Alex. LOL. But I do know a great Fly fishing channel when I see one! Coke Zero for you then. Tight lines to all!
Legit considered just getting a spin rod while learning to fly fish lmao. It can get a bit hectic as a beginner but like lots of sports, it gets better with time.
For sure. Beginner is a pretty broad term. We actually made a video recently for someone in your exact situation. Its our Fly Fishing Crash Course. Go check it out: ruclips.net/p/PLObNLlVNurUW5mXjRlIgv80bYno-8zyPf
I am a beginner at fly fishing. I have caught some fish this summer Thanks to all of your beginner videos. 🎣🌞🙂
Stoked to hear it!!! Nice work my friend.

Appreciate the insights! Great advice.

Glad you found it helpful! Yup, hope you're getting out there right now cause we are at the fall end of the peak. 💪🏽

It is refreshing to see a group of guys passionate about something! Keep it up! V/r
Most enjoyable. The questions were as solid as the answers.
Glad you enjoyed it. Agreed! Dallas and Micah had some top notch questions.

Alex please more fly tying tutorials you teach so good 👍.
We've got some really neat stuff in the works. Stay tuned. 😎
What fly line to use for bobber niphing?
Just the standard 5 wt line on my 9 ft, 5wt Fly Flinger.

I didn’t know Spencer was so elite 😂 but we all know he’s a dry fly purist at heart so him calling euro nymphong not fly fishing is no surprise.

@@venturesflyco good to know! I got it second hand and I did my best to be careful. But I learned to keep a spare rod in my truck just in case!
There was a promise made about video footage of a face plant. Where is said footage?

Agreed. Just like anything, its a skill that requires practice and reps. 💪🏽
This was very informative, but I think we need to redefine what "beginner" means. I mean I have yet to catch a single fish on a fly line haha.

@@venturesflyco Oh I am already aware of this video. It's great.
This will be a great video if there are no Orvis rods promoted 😂😂
@@chasselynch5733 I think they "promoted " a fisherman.
