I had the same issue a few years ago where i wasn't able to install TrueNAS because it always reverted back to TOS and i found a different solution through command prompt. I dont remember the exact details. I didnt have the guts to mess with the bios reflash so good on you.
Awesome video 😊
Thank you for this video. When using a different OS, are the fans running on high all the time, or does the BIOS still control fan speed depending on Hard Drive temperatures? Appreciate your response.
Bios, it seems.
Great tutorial! It sucks that TerraMaster locks out other OSes by default but glad they offer an alternate BIOS to be able to boot a different OS. Though I wouldn't classify this as a hack seeing as it is sanctioned by TerraMaster themselves.
I would say that how you have to do it is very hacky. Not a normal bios update process, because it is so locked down.
@@TechnoDadLife Maybe because you're not a technician, it's "hacky". This is par for the course for a lot of stuff I've done. Hacky would be having to pull the chip or having to solder some wires to the chip to reprogram it.
thanks Techno Dad Life.
Why not simply erase the TOS from the ssd (remove all partitions or format it) and install a clean OS? Since you do not plan on using TOS again, why leave it there?
In the future, if you want to use it again, just reinstall the mini usb flash, erase the ssd and reinstall TOS...
I have a F4-421 and since it doesn't have nvme ssd slot, i have the os inatalled on a sata ssd. I installed the OS on my laptop, moved the ssd to the nas and it booted normally from the ssd, no bios changes, the mini flash drive is still there...
For my modal, you have to change the bios to get to enable setting that allow you to boot from anything but the mini usb. Usb is not a great boot medium due to it wearing out relatively quickly unless you limit write speeds to it.
CasaOS isn't actually an OS. So you're installing a Debian server and adding CasaOS as a service on top of it.
Right, just like Ubuntu.
@@TechnoDadLife What the OP stated is nothing like Ubuntu.
Debian is an OS.
Ubuntu is an OS.
Casa"OS" is taking a Debian OS install and adding CasaOS as a service. You can also use Ubuntu as the install OS and install CasaOS as a service on top of it.
Ubuntu being based on Debian doesn't make it any less of an OS. Just like Manjaro is based on Arch, Manjaro is still an OS. Just like Linux Mint has an Ubuntu based version AND a Debian based version, Linux Mint is still an OS. Please, stop embarrassing yourself.
