Lovely video. You broke everything down perfectly. Scotland looked wonderful. My dads side of the family is English and Scottish. I would love to go some day. Your numbers are not bad at all. Our last trip was last fall when hurricane Ian hit Florida. We always close up the house, hop in the motorhome and leave. We normally go to Chattanooga Tennessee to ride out hurricanes, but this time they were calling for hurricane Ian to head north into Tennessee so we went west to Waco Texas. Average campground fee's here are $50 per night. That includes 50 amp electric hook up, water and sewer. A lot of big box stores will let you stay the night in their parking lot for free overnight when you are traveling. Our motorhome, towing the car, averages 7.5 miles per gallon. Round trip from Florida to texas cost us $2000 for diesel fuel. We stayed out for three weeks and had a wonderful time. We always wait for the roads to be cleared and electricity to be restored before coming home. I mean seriously who wants to stay in a house thats 94 degrees Fahrenheit inside with no air conditioning, electricity or running water. We had a great time in Texas. After Waco we went to Galveston Texas. That is a town right on the Gulf of Mexico.

    Hi Kat,
Have recently joined the National Trust as a Life Member, specifically with the aim of using their car parks for parking up in the MoHo, so it's good to see/hear that they do offer overnight parking (in some places at least) - as you say, easy money for them 🙂
Thanks for the vid/info, Lake District will likely be next port of call, having just done a quick skit of Norfolk/Peak District.
    Cheers,
    Rich /MH04RMV

A lovely, informative video of your trip up to Scotland. Mac is adorable and I would love to get a dog, but the reasons that you have mentioned have stopped me so far. As you say it's so much harder if you travel on your own, but so much fun for the company, especially on the walks! I might do at some date. Leona

Hi Kat, I have a clip on light on my dogs collar which I turn on when she goes out in the dark, even in the garden. It was only cheap, has a rubber coating and wraps round her collar & has 3 light settings, it might be worth you getting one for Mac. I would also be interested in the calming collar that you got for him as my little girl does travel very well now that she’s older. Great video, thanks

If you go near Hawes in the Dales, there is a pub that has in its back garden, the waterfall from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. Might be the biggest freefall fall in the country.

Well done Kat, looks like a cracking trip.
Totally agree with you about travelling solo with a dog. Its a real bugbear of mine that more places won’t make any accommodations for tourists like me with dogs who can’t leave them because they’re on their own. It just means they don’t get my money and that seems very shortsighted at the moment.
Classic example was not being allowed to take him onto the site of the Anderson Boat Lift in Cheshire. No dogs rule meant no admission fee paid (and no spend in the cafe and shop either, probably in the region of £20+).
And before all the dog haters chip in I’m not expecting to get access to everywhere, just stop the blanket bans.

    • @WanderingBird
      @WanderingBird  Год назад

It’s difficult isn’t it? I do understand why they don’t allow it but it’s not easy for solo travellers.

Ola Kat. What a great informative video. I've not even been away in my van yet due to (cough) "technical difficulies with adblue systems" but You made it all look do-able as a single person. I must admit I am wary of being in the van on my own but I am looking forward to the first bimble in her. Ive shortlisted some of the places on your video-specially aria force and loved that loch carpark as Im intending going up and revisiting Scotland and meeting up with a friend of mine who lives near the big kite centre at Dunfirmline. thanks for the costs breakdown. Some of the things like eating out arent really my thing so I'm guessing my costs will be lower( smaller van etc ) but not bad for eight days exploring. Love your channel and your enthusiasm. Thanks for a half hour of great video content. Regards and respect-Kenny

    Three observations:
    1) If people can afford to buy a motor-home they can afford to use it.
    2) There is no point in buying a motor-home and not using it - regardless of cost.
    3) If people can't work out the approximate cost of a trip before they go, there is something seriously wrong with their education. A few minutes with a calculator or spreadsheet and they'd have the answer. And no pre-costing will be exact.

    • @mikeriley6073

You’re way too serious! I think Kat intended to make an interesting trip video - not an exact balance sheet.

Sorry, I slightly disagree with point 1, you buy it from life savings but have to run it from income ie pension or other fixed income
