I was living on a military base in WA at Fort Lewis when this happened. My neighbor was one of the helicopter pilots who flew on the rescue , and then got to pilot for the movie. Great movie!
Thanks a million. I’ve been looking for this movie for years since I saw it back in the early 80s. I only saw it once back then but it gave me lasting memories. Unsure why no reruns are ever shown or why it’s not shown on classic movies.
I am from India. I watched this in theater called Plaza in Bangalore. I was searching for this movie and wanted my children to enjoy this movie. It was stunning to watch this movie on screen. Thank you very much.
Thank you for uploading the movie. I remember watching this when I was a kid. I have been trying to find this for years. I couldn't remember the title. I always remember the hero being frozen and flying through the air. Very good movie.
Thank you for uploading this movie. I hadn’t seen it since I was a kid and you can’t find it on dvd and the only two existing vhs copies are like 80 bucks. It might not be a very well known movie but I am grateful that you thought it good enough to upload
I'm from México. I saw it too when i was a kid, some 30 years ago. I was looking it up like a year ago, but could find only the trailer, so i thank you for uploading the whole movie.
My dad and a friend of his built the helicopter for that seen to where they blew it up it was filmed on white horse mountain in Washington state the movie was filmed in 1979 it came out in the fall.
Excellent movie and a splendid Cast. David Janssen's performance is truly remarkable. Sad this was one his last films before his shocking death from a heart attack at 49. The ending was also a sad one, but an enjoyable film about being heroic and dedicated to saving lives while risking their own. RIP David Janssen, Tony Musante, Warren Stevens and Madge Sinclair.
Thanks for uploading. Been wanting to see this movie for a long time, it was worth the wait. I could hardly wait for Tuesday nights at 10:00 for the Fugitive. RIP David!
saw it when I was 15 shared it 20 years ago with daughter she cried been searching for it ever since. thank u. been looking so long. hated that he died heard it was a true story.

Thanks for the upload. I bought the VHS on Ebay about 15 years ago for $300. Yeah expensive but it's a rare movie. And good. Plus I lived in Darrington for 7 years. Look out my bedroom window and look at Whitehorse mtn every day. Beautiful mountain
I watched this movie in Brazilian television on 90's. It was a unique transmission. Since then, this movie never been shown. I had 7 years old, but the David Janssen's character scene was being rescue dead was marked in my memory. Thanks to share this movie
Fala, br ! Eu a mesma coisa! Quero dizer, o filme é do ano que eu nasci (80) e passava na Sessão da Tarde nos anos 80. Impressionante como mais de 30 anos depois, e mesmo sendo muito criança, lembro da cena... Rs
A lovely story with a sad ending. To die for being old is okay but to die ahead of time for saving other people is not nice. I am not in agreement people should die for the stupidity of other people. Soldiers should not die for a war on oil. Society should invent a practical solution to survive in the future. i stand for life instead of sacrifice, dead and war.
I wish somebody would rescue knowledge could explain to me how they got him off the mountain without jeopardizing the helicopter blades being too close to the mountain and no Rescuers dropping down to get Mack out of that pocket.... how did they get the harness around him? I was always puzzled about that as a kid
I saw this when it first aired. I was 8 and fell asleep in the middle of it. Didn't get to see the whole thing until the mid 90s. Great story of courage and self-sacrifice. Lt. Col. Thatcher: I gotta say, even in the 1970s I think that haircut would be a no-go for an Army officer.
42:14 A made for TV film (NBC Movie Of The Week I Think....) with a naked chick? How did that get by the censors? I watched this when I was in Jr. High with my parents and my Mom would have had kittens!!
It took me a while to find this movie - all I remembered of it was the guy stuck in the ‘pocket’ - it was around 40 years ago that I first saw this movie, and I completely forgot about it apart from that guy in the crevice - being just a TV movie made it hard to find I still wonder (as I did back then), how the hell did they get another rope around McDonald to pull him out?….and the length of rope from him to the chopper was about the same as the last one, and it wasn’t long enough then to pull him out of the pocket safely with the chopper….
2023 just finished watching the movie DEVOTION based on a true story of an American black pilot from the Korean war who crashed on the side of a mountain and fighter pilots were unable to rescue him before the nightfall of frigid snow storm that came and took his life before they could rescue him the following day. Reminded me so much of this movie.😭😭😭
I miss the tv movies of the past, a lot of them had some great storylines. I saw this when I was about 9 and the negative ending made a big impression on me. Movies back then had great characters that weren't contrived to check off boxes to fulfill "woke" agendas.
Very true, a lot more thrilling to watch. Do they even make TV movies anymore, not seeing too many these days apart from the odd Lifetime drama thriller, even those Pierre David produced ones aren't what they used to be.
Love this movie. It's been 30+ years since watching it as a kid. David Jansen was an amazing actor Thank you so much for sharing it!!
Thank you, you're welcome.
Remember David Jansen searching for the One Arm Man (TV Series)?

The old childhood movies with the yellow credits at the beginning are always best😂💪
Thanks for sharing the movie! Whitehorse Mountain (Darrington, Washington) is not an easy climb but you'll be a lot more successful if you follow these important safety tips:

49:37 Do not investigate the very same cornice your boss just fell through

Delightful review!
The rockets were fired to cause some of the snow to fall away from the clumbers area. Does Snohomish county Search and Rescue have helicopters?
Excellent critical comedic climber review, amigo! 🤣
I've TRIED to Find This Movie ❣️🙏 The Library said it Was Not Available & I Stumbled Onto THIS 😊❤️ We Love You from Mentor 🇺🇲 OHIO 🕊️
Love the description, brief and to the point
To leave a man on the high overnight in the snow at any age a double fault in the army
I am Michael Clyde Cope, and I love this movie!!! I used to live in Darrington, Washington.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Heart in your mouth scenes. Good stunts and not a sight of CGI used in so mant films today.

I watched because Gretchen Corbett’s in it. Pretty nice climbing exposure and chopper scenes. Unexpectedly good yet cheesy at the same time!
Stupid Colonel, the sign is right in front him, White Horse Mountain Lodge and he asks what the place is. Proves 'Army Intelligence is an oxymoron.
I love this movie but anything with David Janssen I love...wish I could find the Titanic movie where he plays Jacob Astir but it has been removed
28.00 this is the best model of Castle Greyskull ever!

One of my high-school teachers act in this movie hes from darrington its really cool to see he was in this
This also was filmed in darrington and it also takes place on white horse mountain
Huge lesson to learn here people. DON'T RAPPEL OFF A CORNICE!! "I don't like the way this cornice feels" bahahaha!
The professional climber leaves the bag with all the ropes in it with the amateur, smart move buddy!

OK, did more reading. The VHS version had deleted scenes from the TV version which included the nude scene.
.
Hardly a nude scene - we saw just one tit!!
Filmed in Darrington, WA
Never seen this film before it was wonderful but anything starring David Janssen was great love him so much
I am not a climber but I wouldn't of thought shouting during one is a good idea!!!
Nice to see DJ as a father and grandfather.
I live in the town Darrington WA where this was filmed
You should do a "filming locations" video. A then and now thing where you compare pictures with screan grabs from the film.
this is so bad its good
