I love that Mabel trusts Stan only after he says “please”. As we and she learned in boss Mabel, Stan has trouble saying the word

Also Stan's entire greedy money crazed persona takes on new meaning when you realize he's been trying to prove himself and get the fortune he thinks will get him back into good standing with his family

Stan's entire family thinks he's dead, he can't really be close to them 😔
They're also probably just dead. The stan twins are in their 60s-70s
They still have dipper and Mabel’s parents and grandparents, the baby seen in the flashback(nicknamed shermy). But the writers try to not talk about them too much because they messed up the timeline a bit, the twins were born in 2000/1999 which means at shermy born in the 60s/70s would have had a teen pregnancy at 19/18 who then goes and haves dipper and Mabel’s also around 19/18. Which is a bit weird for this show so they just try and ignore it.
Edit: there is a theory that sort of fixes this issue, but it doesn’t exactly work. The theory was that shermy is actually 10 years older than the Stans rather than younger then them. the baby seen in the flashback was dipper and Mabel’s parent and shermy just had his parent baby sitting for him. But most of the cyphers and lore in the show implies shermy is younger than the Stan’s
@darker shermy is dipper and Mabel’s grandparent not parent. Stan says “they’re shermy’s grandkids” to ford
In the end Dipper and Mabel's parents never sent the twins to stay with Stanley, they thought they were sending them to live with Ford, who they doubtless had heard good things about all their lives

When Ford says "I had to make sure you weren't..." when Stan came to visit him, he was referring to Bill, not the shapeshifter. I see a lot of people making that mistake for some reason.
It's because bills powers aren't clear at this point

That cliffhanger from 'Not What He Seems' was pretty big to wait for more back in 2015

Stan and Ford's designs when they were younger are in my opinion some of the greatest character designs of all time I mean its juts perfect they still look like twins but there different enough so you can see there personalitys stills. Like the cloths the hair the body's everything It's just so perfect. Like "Jewish teenage boys from new Jersey in the 70s" THEY FUCKING NAILED IT

Okay A little confusion that happens to just about everybody. The way the two stands are related to Dipper and Mabel isn't through their mother. Dipper and Mabel's father is their little brother Shermy's son. Whenever Stanley got kicked out of the house you can actually see their mother holding him. Confusing considering that's literally the only time we ever see Shermy but that's how it works
also shermy would either have not ever known about stanley because the family stopped talking about him, or may have also been under the assumption that he had died in the car crash. so when dipper and mabel were dropped in gravity falls shermy and mabel/dipper’s parents would’ve assumed it was still stanford (“the more responsible one”) they were letting them stay with all summer

Because that would make Shermy their great grandfather and the Stans great great uncles of just great uncles. And fun fact: the animation of Stanford's reveal was done by Dana Terrace, creator of The Owl House. Alex Hirsch voiced not just Stan, Soos, McGucket and Bill Cipher in GF, he also voices King and Hooty in TOH.

The buildup to this episode was INSANE!!!! Form the countdown to everyone going crazy, and then the episode happens and it’s just 30 minutes of taking it all in, and the final end credit scene, gosh, just took all the breathe out of me 😭
I remember watching the series with my brother and cousins, when Stanford got revealed we just absolutely *lost it*. I knew the whole Stan has a brother theory, but I didn't think it'd be true
remember what Stan's boat was named in the second episode? Remember who opened the door in time traveler's pig? There were clues all along
The "Bill Cipher. Triangle." is at 20:22 where Fiddleford is speaking in Atbash and backwards, right before he says "...fear the beast with just one eye". You have heard him say this once before in Atbash, but _not_ backwards, in the Society of the Blind Eye episode where he goes crazy in the memories, right before making a triangle around his eye.

Honestly I'm on Gruncle Stan's side, always have been, Stanford is just " the new guy" to me. Because if I am shunned by you for years only for you to reach out simply because you want to demand something rudely from me because you want to preserve your legacy!? I'm nearing breaking point. But then I go ahead to spend 30 years of my life trying every single night to bring you back and you're still extremely dismissive of me, your first instinct is to attack me, and you can't even say a simple thank you? You're dead to me.

The wildest thing is that people actually called the Stan's Twin plot twist way before it even happened. When you have over a year to obsessively comb over every detail of this show, you start to notice all the very tiny details that paint the bigger picture.
It panicked Alex Hirsch enough that they created a fake leak of McGucket being the author to throw people off the trail.
I love how between the two people who work in the Shack, Stan asked *Soos* for help. Fantastic addition to their dynamic!!
Oh shit, so I'm guessing Shermie is the baby shown at 17:38 and is the grand-father of dipper and Mabel, that's kinda cool
It wouldn't make sense given Grunkle Stan's age (late fifties/ early sixties) , unless both Shermie, and Dipper and Mabel's father had their kids as teenagers. It would be more logical for Shermie to be Stan and Ford's older brother, then the baby we saw would be Dipper and Mabel's dad. Maybe the grandparents were babysitting.

Heck yeah, it’s here. I remember when NTWHS came out. It was amazing to see that theory on tumblr be totally right. The wait for the next episode was torture. Took MONTHS. Disney tried their best to stretch out season 2 as much as possible. Pure evil.

I guess it sorta makes sense since he didn’t want to write all over the thing he had spent time making, but at the same time he was too obsessed with his work to value the notion of making it difficult for ppl to end the world. @@bjp4869 you couldn't really "do something to the warnings" without damaging the book, meaning no portal and no weirdmageddon, but on the off chance he did it anyway, just make multiple warnings in multiple places it's not as if just knowing there is a doomsday device somewhere and knowing it absolutely cause the apocalypse would make me want to activate it more
You couldn't have picked a better day for this upload. It's the show's 10th anniversary. Watching you guys discover Stanford was the best way to celebrate it. I really recommend rewatching the earlier episodes with your newfound knowledge as it paints a different picture of Grunkle Stan(ley). It had bits of really subtle and surprising foreshadowing. This show is just so iconic and intriguing even after all this time. It changed Disney TV shows for the better
You should watch over the garden wall at some time. It is 10 episodes long and it is better when watched around halloween. Maybe when October comes around you should react to the mini series.

Crazy how their parents sent Mabel and Dipper to stay with their Uncle Ford cause they thought Stan was dead!! But Ford was stuck in that portal for 30 years!
they didn't send them there because they thought Stan was dead. They just sent them there to send them somewhere else for the summer. It's kinda implied their parents are going through a rough patch and sent them to gravity falls to get them out of the house while they figure things out.

16:13 I can say that as a kid, I always 'forgot' to wear sunscreen when at the beach or the pool. One summer, I was outside for close to 8 hours at a waterpark and my face felt like it had cracked all over by the next day, not to mention how red my skin was.
Watching people relive a moment in gravity falls that most of us watched 4 years ago just revitalized my love for the series.
I remember reading somewhere that what made Filford go insane is because he saw bill on the other side of the portal look at him while he was feeding without his exoskeleton on
14:34 actually Stan's twin shown in S1 in two episodes the bill cipher one when they enter Stan's mind and the time travel one (But of course you cant understand that its his twin in time travel one since he was alone so he can be just the Stan we know but if you look closely in his childhood memories you can see that there is two Stan's) thats why it was theorized wayy before this episode but there was also ppl who say its just an animation error or smth and dont think too much also there was infos like Stan wearing 6 fingered gloves etc so it wasnt that unpredictable which makes it way better
All I gotta say is if you make a perpetual motion device and it gets broken by someone slamming their fist on a table... It probably wasn't a good perpetual motion machine.

Honesty Stanford was in the wrong. He asked the one person he hadn’t talked to in years to get it away from him and when goes to destroy he selfishly chooses the research. Then when his brother saves him all he does is punch him and tell him to leave not even a thank you.
