What’s realistically harder, the physical or mental aspect of it?

Depends on the swimmer, of course, but a lot of strong swimmers don't find it that physically challenging and many finish in under 45 minutes.

No sharks ?

There are quite a few sharks in the Bay but almost all are harmless small sharks like leopard sharks that have no interest in people. There have been great whites spotted in the Bay before, but it's relatively rare, and there has never been a shark attack on a swim.
