    Thank you so much ! I watched this yesterday , adjusted my breathing and did something I haven’t done in years … swim 1.1 Km (100 laps of my pool) without a break

    Watched this, keen swimmer not brilliant but really enjoy it. Usually with a 45 min session I can get 65 lengths swimming 2 lengths and 4 lengths (25m pool) as really struggling with knocking myself out with exertion.Took on board the style and the breathing techniques… today 45 mins 80 lengths non stop and I COULD HAVE GONE ALL DAY. life guard even he’d to give me a tap on the head to say time was up. Amazed and really happy what brilliant advice and guidance relaxed everything is the key. TOP VIDEO 👍👍👍👍👍

    Awesome video! After watching, I went to my local swimming pool and was able to swim 250 yards nonstop! Before I was only able to swim 100 yards nonstop. Thanks and please post more videos!

    You are remarkable!!!!! I’m so much better. Every one your videos repeatedly reminds me of the logic of swimming.. My right shoulder started to hurt because I was flat and my elbows were wings over the water. Thinking that what I had to do. I took off a few weeks and took time to stretch my arms and view your videos. Now im doing just what you say from A- Z. It’s made me so comfortable now without fear of hurting myself. Im rotating shoulders and hips, semi circles catch, flicking my feet 2 beat with hips, head dorm, side back sips, piercing/gliding . God blessed me by seeing your videos… I can’t thank you enough… Now if you can tell me how to flip turn🙏🏻

    Great tip with the emphasis on pushing your temple into the water on the breath... Simple and effective to lift the hip.
    Have used your idea of swimming down hill also, love it.

    Super explanation of breathing technique. Also 'Imagine you're swimming downhill' resonated with me and I realised the key word is 'imagine'. Since discovering your videos, web site, vimeos etc at the end of last November, I stopped doing my usual daily mile and switched to intensive drills focusing on different aspects of the Ocean Walker technique. I'm very happy to see a steady improvement. I'm now swimming faster that ever but with less effort. I'm nowhere near perfect but very happy to be progressing. Many thanks.

    I can't buy lessons...all I can do is imitate.. but I will tell you. This technique is already engrained in my mind from watching it.

    Great tips on breathing! I haven’t yet mastered this. It is harder to learn as an adult! I am an endurance athlete, but can’t swim 100 metres without feeling like I am dying! I had my coach stumped because he does it naturally and couldn’t figure out why I swallow so much water without spitting before breathing. I also haven’t figured out my rhythm yet. This is very helpful though, so thanks 😊

      Listen to coach Mike of Nitro bobs breathing technique and you'll be swimming like Ocean Walker's endurance in no time.
      Having lost 9 months because of Covid, I've gone from gasping for air at the end of every 25m swim to swimming for 110 minutes in a 50m pool from April 2019 to last Monday 04th October 21.
      At the age of 62 the first time I've swam in the sea was off Broadstairs in September this year.
      A big thank you to Shinji Taceuchi, Terry Lauglin, Coach Mike, the Swim Fast Boys and Ocean Walker.
      What a game changer!!!
      Don't get frustrated, be patient and practice.

      Same. It's so frustrating. Can run and bike for hours but can't swim 500m without being gassed. Hate it

      Right?? I am an ultra runner but a nasty ankle injury has me swimming for the next while... and I love it! But I feel so sad not being able to swim 100 meters without needing to stop and recoup. There's so much form to learn! I find it pretty fun and satisfying learning things from the bottom as an adult though. These videos definitely help.

    Amazing technique friend. That glide is absolutely beautifulto lookat. Possibly the best swimming I've seen on screen. Doing some 1 - 1.6 km river swims in Irealand and am getting into the rythem. Had some great coaching as a youngster from Bobby Madine, Leander SC, Belfast formerly University of Indiana so I've been taught Mark Spitz' technique which means that without being strong you can failrly get through the water real fast like. Keep it up bro.

    I seem to have a screw like action on my kick when I roll to the left, but not on my right! This seems to be blocking my roll equally to both sides. This must be a roll from my competition swimming back in the 70s! I love this coaching and technique, I finding it tough to return by brain/body again now I'm over 60, but I'm sticking with it, and slowly but surely I'll get there. Thank you Adam.

    This is enlightening. I agree that you don't necessarily have to exhale all the air out of your lungs. It causes our bodies to gasp for air in the intake. It's a good tip to leave some air in your lungs and avoid that desperate gasp. You feel comfortable and you can control your breathing more naturally and swim for much longer.

    That's interesting about the breathing, I can swim since I was about 6 as we had it at school. I could do a few lengths with the crawl but always ended up wallowing, out of breath, and a lungful of water so to speak. At 78 I started swimming again and the same thing. I'm definitely going to try what you said. Also had trouble bringing one arm over because of wear and tear so going to try the other things you have said in your videos with the twisting of the hips.

    From this mechanism and from principal of fluid mechanics ...
    Coach Adam is using two mechanism to using kinetic Energy's..
    Method 1 : adding kinetic Energy by half rolling ..here body rotating about spinal chord this energy is beneficial and have to great effects...
    Enhance uplifting in front body
    Provide any additional crawling force to push swimmer to front direction
    Decrease the crawling force on the shoulder muscles...
    The last point the front area of swimmer will be less ..so the weight of water the pushed by swimmer will be less....
    Method 2: providing kinetic Energy by pulling water by hand ...
    It is like you move you body by two engines ...
    Arms and shoulder muscles
    Core muscles of hips ...
    Last point when pushing water down by chest during rotation ..this increase the pressure of water at chest area of swimmer ...this simply means increase uplift force for swimmer increase stability and give swimmer a chance to do this movement of breathing as he explained ...

    The breathing tips really helped me. As a new person getting into pool swimming I feel that it has helped a bit having that pause between breathing out and then breathing in. Before watching this i'd breathe out too much and be gasping for a breath. 1-1.5 seconds makes all the difference.

    Im from Brazil and a love open water's swim . Im 44 yrs . These videos are fantastic . Could you do a video to learn the best way to swim against the stream of the sea ? In open water swimming this situation is common to happen .

    One of the finest swimming instructional clips I've ever watched. Would I be right in saying there's are a lot of similarities to the Terry Laughlin philosophy? i.e. energy saving, balance, streamlining being the key focus points. Thanks for the great film.

      I learned to swim prepetual motion free style with Terry Laughlin videos and yes I find this mechanics very close to similar but amazing video no comparison unique explanations very knowledgeable 👍, Andrew I find it hard to maintain the tempo of the strokes like the higher the tempo the more energy I end up using terry Laughlin explains a lot about slow swimming tempo but eventually if we are too slow moving forward gets harder especially in open waters?
      Pushing the water back at a higher tempo can tire us vs pushing ourselves forward efficiently at a low stroke rate..
      That's what's left to learn for me..

    Awesome technical video, I love swimming in the ocean, especially in tropical waters like Thailand. Swimming in Canada or the Irish Sea is cold so you have to swim harder to keep warm. Didn’t know about exhale all out then hold your breath for short time become you inhale.
    Do you always breath one sided?
    Good point about sighing, sometimes you can go off Track and be not where you want to be.
    I like to swim along the beach direction and maintain the same depth of water between 6 and 10 foot of water is fine.

    Great video Adam..Thank You.....Would the swim be different if you were doing a Triathlon type swim / race which can be long enough? Would the breathing be the same regardless of effort. I did watch other videos explaining that almost all air needs to go out on exhaling. I personally exhale a little air at a time in short periods as in 1-2-3 or 1-2 , exhale exhale exhale short breath right or exhale exhale short breath left, etc etc..... also the longer the distance (1-2 Km) I find myself breathing a little faster.....(Probably because getting tired a bit) Let me know what your thoughts are ....Thanks in advance...

    very awesome video, i'm actually new to swimming and i love the ocean though i'm having a hard time at breathing in wavy ocean while on freestyle so i prefer to do breast stroke in wavy ocean because of the breathing, still i really wanted to work my freestyle in wavy ocean.

    Just swam a 3km off the west coast of Cape Town SA, between Robben Island and Big Bay this morning. Wish I had seen this video lastnight. Struggled quite a bit, lotsa swell, cold temp and water was very choppy, swallowed so much sea water, feels like I did a saltwater cleanse 😁 Hope to put your advice to practice this week.     Thanks for posting this video and presenting a different perspective. I have taken swimming classes in the past and was always told to exhale all the air out of my lungs before inhaling. Why do swimming instructors teach this method? When I am able to get to a pool I will definitely try your technique.

    What I find impressive about this stroke is the relation between speed of the recovery versus the actual swim speed. I dont know if it really is fast, but it somehow looks like fast swimming. Its therefore the opposite of most swimmers that have a much quicker stroke rate but dont seem to go fast.

      The speed in the video is 1 min 10 secs per 100 metres

    Hi Adam, excellent video! How can I avoid getting water in my nose while rotating my head to take a breathe? I undertand the cycle: exhale (underwater), hold and take a breathe. However when you are holding the breathe putting your lips together how do you avoid getting water in your nose if you say don't exhale?
    I usually get tired because I don't breathe in the right way. That's mean while I'am rotating my head to get some air I need to exhale through my nose when i'm getting to the surface othwerwise i get water in my nose wich is very disgusting. Some advice? Thanks!

    This is incredible for someone who is learning how to swim, I can only float for about 1 minute if not less baffles my mind people can continue to swim for minutes without stopping

    Hi Adam, just wanted to say thanks for the videos. I'm 58 and a lifelong swimmer and former life saver so I thought my stroke was pretty efficient. Man was I wrong! Adjusting to your method has been transformational. I'm still working on it but feeling improvement every day. I swim on a beach which can have a pretty brutal longshore current that sometimes feels like swimming in a Endless Pool with the fan turned up to max. With your method I'm slicing through it not exactly with ease but a whole mountain of beans better than before. Big thanks. Can you point me to a video where you talk about what you're doing with the catch?

    I’m trying to do more distance events (pool - with US Master Swim team). I’m going to try your breathing technique. I’m a bilateral breather as I find it puts me more at ease. I may be already using your technique but just have not realized it. I swim looking down at the bottom of the pool. There are two things I have to work on. 1. Anxiety before events. It negatively affects my swim. 2. Settling in to a slow relaxing swim instead of swimming with the purpose of improving my time.

    What I've noticed in my swimming is that kicking basically slows me down, acts as drag. When I wear small fins on my feet, and don't use them, their flotation effect really helps me glide through the water. Is my kick just too weak? Do I need to think about technique on the upper half of my body?
