it's basically a portable clean room, the ports are that big because they should have those big glove things attached to them (like the intro from the simpsons)
Was just about to post that. The big circle holes on one side are for invertible gloves, the rectangular opening is the top with a lid.
Came to say this, it's an hermetic glove box... :)

Yup. Your gut feeling was correct. It's likely for some kind of media blasting etc. It just looks in too good of shape. The air inlet would be for the blasting tool, and the lid sits on the top.
I think the rectangular opening should be oriented up. And that each circular opening normally are fitted with a sealed / air tight glove. Maybe the vent is for creating a pressure inside the box slightly higher than ambient air, such that no contaminated outside air can enter the box. You could possibly use this thing as a small clean room for opening hard drives and other delicate stuff.
Or you could pump in oxygen for the prematurely born baby inside.

While some preemies get external ventilation (because prior to a certain developmental point they don't have the strength to ventilate properly on their own), they don't give them oxygen because it was discovered that doing that causes them to go blind later when it is discontinued. (What happens is the higher blood oxygen level causes the blood vessels in their retinas to not develop properly, then when the baby starts breathing regular air and the blood oxygen level drops, the blood vessels develop abnormally and eventually cause the retina to degenerate into a fibrous mass.)
It could also be with the rectangular opening down; with the door on the _inside._ If it was designed for negative pressure/vacuum, the rectangular opening would be on top.
If it were designed for positive pressure, the rectangular opening would be on bottom with the door on the inside.
Must be one or the other, because the door has no visible means to secure it; and without that the only possible orientation is rectangular opening up or down, otherwise the door would just fall off.
The whiteboard would still be useful. Take the board, toss the stand, and hang that puppy on the wall.

Whiteboard is height adjustable, the sliding parts are hidden in the pivot points, so you simply undo them slightly, and slide the board to the right level. Just means that instead of flipping to the other side, you turn the board around.

It's a two-person(two round ports for the heads) heliox-ventilator for filming helium-voice gags.
The rectangular port is for inserting different background screens.
It's for tear-downs. The box keeps any spilled electrons from rolling all around the lab, and plactic bags are attached to the top vents to collect any magic smoke.
Even without gloves, this can still be used as a Positive Air Pressure Box.

It is a simple "Glovebox Fume Hood" the port on the side is for air in or out dependent on what you are doing.
We had a similar chamber where i use to work to measure CFM of airflow through different types of filter media
Sandblasting cabinet, hands go in the 2 ports and the barbed fitting is for pressurised air for the sand blaster
You could use it for an indoor rock garden with cacti and succulents.
RIFA and tantalum magic smoke chamber right there, with extra large ventilation ports and sampler coupling adaptor. Only thing it’s missing are the silicone rubber sealant stripes which had to be replaced anyways.
Could work both ways as a clean chamber with positive pressure filtered air or a vacuum chamber. You could do some hard drive data recovery with that thing ;)

My guess is possibly a vacuum chamber, with glove holes, maybe for epoxy potting, or rubber moulding. The screen would probably sit on top, and just needs a rubber seal around it to make it ideal.👍🇦🇺
Vacuum chambers are more sturdily built. They have to be, the base air pressure is about a thousand newtons per square meter. If you draw a good vacuum down to, say, 1% of atmospheric pressure, your container has to be able to support about 990 newtons per square meter. This is about the force excreted by gravity on the Earth's surface on a mass of about 100 kg. ()Actually, a bit more than that, but this isn't a precise physics analysis, more gross engineering.) So, in practice, you'd want a container in which you plan to draw a good vacuum to be strong enough to walk on without flinching. (And also, since drawing a good vacuum is time consuming, you make a vacuum chamber intended for degassing as small as it is practical for you to build it to support the largest container size you want to be able to degas. Most of the things you'd want to degas are on a clock, after all.)
@@evensgrey Yes, I think I tend to agree, that enclosure is rather large, and it doesn't look like heavy wall poly/perspex, so it would likely implode fairly easily given the calculations you mentioned.
Perhaps more likely it was a low pressure clean work cabinet.
Would make a nice compact laminar flow bench. All I would need is a PC3000 card, the skill to use one and far more patience than I possess.
In my engineering career we designed and built all sorts of weird things that turned out to not really be what we wanted, so chucked them. The darn thing might do and did, nothing. It's a dream that didn't happen.

It is a glove box without the gloves. The round holes should be sealed with gloves where you can reach in and manipulate things in an isolated atmosphere. The rectangular hole allows you to insert tools and workpieces. The rough finish adheres well to a deformable seal.
That's a bsl-4 glove box, the port on the side is for vacuum, 2 big round ports are for gloves, it's usually used for handling things like deadly pathogens, or radioactive substances.
So its Austrailia that started Covid... cant wait to present this evidence to the q tits down the park.

For starters, I think you have it laying on it's back. The fact that the loose part doesn't have hinges means that it is oriented horizontally. Considering the alternative, I think that establishes the hole with the moving part as the top! Therefore, the two circular ports are vertical, and are indeed probably intended for arms...but not the way you suggested! I believe that the brass fitting pumps in filtered air to make positive pressure, and functions as a dust-free work zone. This is corroborated by the high visibility of the structure, and it's general size. The exterior of the port is meant to receive an unterminated hose, while the interior has no such fitting; it simply exhausts into the chamber.
I briefly considered the inert gas theory, but allowing that much escapage would be totally wasteful of something that arrives in tanks. It's design seems to be focused on preventing dust contamination rather than oxygen exposure. Electronics repair doesn't need anything like this, so my guess would be medical testing. The large flat bottom would have held test tubes of biological specimens, various testing chemicals, etc. If dust is that much of a problem, the work probably required a lack of bacterial or general genetic contamination, in any case.
After further thought, the hole in the top is there to put in items that are taller than the armholes like stands or little shelves.

I see a *lot* of reusable clear acrylic. Separate it into sheets so you can store them. They can be sawed, scored and broken, and also easily bent with a hot air gun.
Funniest Raspberry PI case I've seen - I mean what else do they make out of plastic these days :).

Proper gloves for pro blasting cabinets are rather big on the opening, ie, maybe 250mm, which looks close.

My guess is for testing air flow from a pair of supply ducts or a couple of fans. Also could be for testing filters. The fitting is for the manometer. Sand blast is out, sand would eat the plastic big time. With gloves, and filled with argon -- you could assemble prototype lithium batteries. Mini clean room, feed ultra clean air in one duct port and out the other. Manometer fitting to be sure you always had positive pressure. Open up disk drives?

I used to scope the e-waste at the local recycling. Til I got busted by the attendant. Seems "goodwill" does something w/ the stuff so I'm not allowed. Managed to score a good 960VA UPS (1 of 4 I tested) before his admonitions at least.

vacuum glove box... the 2 big dia. ports are for range of arm movement in the gloves... neg pressure only... that isn't an inlet nipple... no baffle on the inside to diffuse incoming air... and it is clean as heck.. so no heat oriented activities on the inside... my guess: an opening box using vacuum to reduce o2 contamination... art/book/Document appraiser/ dealer?
