    I was considering getting a Kemper Player - but actually for the same price I found a Kemper Rack with a Footswitch....And I'm glad I did! Here's a profile I made of my 1965 Fender Pro Reverb...

    There is no way of getting around the placebo effect when trying to match amp tones ;) . The Kemper sounds great to my old ears.

    It is surprising how far Kemper has kept it's functionality being 15 year old machine, ok, constant updates but still impressive.
    If you put your money on Kemper 15 years ago, you did not bought something that is obsolete, even today. it is valid piece of technology.

      11 and a half years, not 15 years.
      Where do guitarists get to the Kemper 15 years old? 🙂

    To my ears there is no more than a hair in it, personally I prefer the Kemper tone on this one👍

    I use one of the first profiles I tested when I got mine, but this one is awesome! I’m buying it just so you can make more videos about Kemper. Love your videos! Thank you!

    Seems like the Reference amp is more center-focused and clearer.

    The Kemper seems to lack low end compared to a real amp and cab. That's been my biggest gripe. As a bassist and guitarist, I've had better luck profiling guitar amps but have never managed to accurately profile a bass amp. The low end just disappears.
    Also, I often find that I get better results by refining then working with the EQ and Gain on the Kemper to get closer to the amp. This second 'refinement' stage in my DAW, a/b-ing thr amp and Kemper certainly helps. But that low end never really gets right...

    Kemper sounds great! Your fingers might hear the difference but the audience won't

    Reading all these comments is laughable.
    It sounds so close that if you tried identical tube amp models side by side they'd sound more different than this comparison.
    John even says it, if he has the amp serviced it might not sound identical to how the amp sounds right now.

    I ran RoomEQ Wizard through both my real rig and a capture I made of my rig. Granted it was for Tonex, but the process still applies. I created a wired feedback loop. It is interesting to see where the variances are. Top end tends to get a little wild and the low end roll off isn't quite 1:1, but the rest is dead on. It would be interesting to try this with the Kemper.

    The kemper-ness of kemper profiles are sometimes preferred. Kemper is for metal. That low mid exaggerated and top end roll off thing that kemper does.
    I personally like splitting a stero signal with helix PRE amps to two amps.

    Just buy a Kemper and some good profiles like the ones of MBritt, than your set for life. Free updates also, nomore expensive tube replacements and the bias shit. And easy recording on your DAW. Oh yeah and only use Kemper stuff-Cabs.

    John, have you tried adjusting the clarity and definition controls? They are both very powerful!

    • @johnbaumeister
      @johnbaumeister 3 месяца назад

      I notice that some of my favorite paid profiles from MBritt (and others) tend to tweak, Definition, power sagging, compressor and clarity from profile to profile. So I would agree that simply accepting refine as the end point is probably not as good as you can get. Of course it's more knobs to adjust but it may get you closer to what you want.

    Time for a "Blind Test" of the Amp vs the Kemper Profile you made vs your Helix dialed in to match the Amp's tone played at the "same volume". There are free Cellphone dB Apps, to verify the volume.

      @@EffectivePhysioKingaroy well, I own quite a few Dumble amplifiers I actually built myself I have played everything from kempers to Line six ect I can differentiate the differences. I also own and built many different overdrive pedals I actually built and designed for Peavey back in the day . The psychoacoustic effects can be differentiated between. Frequency responses, compression, perceived loudness ,equalization, and just overall ambiance is all perceived and processed in the auditory and brain perception. If you are going for the true Dumble sound I am still particular to analog is still more accurate. I don't care if it's the real tube or a Zendrive or Royal drive or Ethos or Gladio all of them have one thing in common they are analog and they actually sound the closest to a real one not a digital samplers. So go ahead and convince yourself maybe not me . Actually I am personal friends with Larry Carlton I have followed his sound since his early dumble days as well as Robben I know the real sound and will never forget it .

    The Kemper has a slightly different distortion characteristic. It sounds more "grainy". This is exactly is what I would not like to have in a sound ....

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  3 месяца назад

      In the refine process here it was quieter too which is a bit odd to me, like you'd think at least the volume matching part would be the easiest bit for the Kemper to do?

    Nice tones, but I'm fed up with all those gears with that annoying digital screen, and you get yourself tweaking that screen for every tiny little detail you want to adjust.
    And lots, lots of tone options, tens and hundreds and the entire world of amps and fx inside those units.
    No, not for me, really...
    I can't take it anymore...that's why digital wise I'm into the Universal Audio amp in a box pedals. Each one of those pedals emulates only ONE f****** thing, hahaha, and for me that is a dream.
